  1. We have booked a Wild West chalet with Nate & Steve, so there is room for one more male non-smoker. Calanon, are you still looking for a place?
  2. Jim, I hope PR is not your day job!!
  3. I'm in for sure, with my son. Looking forward to it! Not sure about how our accommodation will be arranged just yet, should know in a day or two at the most.
  4. What a divisive set! From most of the comments so far, people seem to be really polarised into "love it" or "hate it" camps! I'm in the tiny "ambivalent" group; I'll probably buy the set but I don't think it really blends in well with the other modulars at all. Best to not think of it as one of the modulars but as a standalone set that just so happens to be modular in design and then appreciate its good features. There's lots of good stuff about it: special colours, new parts, quirky character, etc. Pity about the car, though. With sooooo many LEGO sets featuring vehicles, did we really need valuable parts-count being allocated to yet another one?
  5. Well, another couple of days will reveal who's guessed right or wrong.... At least the speculation has been fun!
  6. Is it safe to book flights now?
  7. I think "scalpers" is a bit of a harsh term for people who just hope for a return on their investments. If they bought the sets legitimately and view them as future assets, good luck to them. I won't get myself in knots about the high prices on the secondary market (I just won't pay them) nor will I shed any tears over someone's potential income dropping due to a re-release. Investing is a risky business; you win some, you lose some. Personally, I'm delighted the TM is being re-released as I came out of my dark age a few months after the original retired!
  8. The whole thing seems just a bit off to me. I think I'll be waiting for the official announcement!
  9. I have the dates on the calendar and definitely plan to attend with my son, as before. Looking forward to it already!
  10. Thanks for all support and positive feedback! Faolán and I had a great time and made a lot of friends Of course it would have been nice to make it to the final but we didn't really mind too much as we had already achieved what we had set out to do, which was to see if we could build together, work as a team and still have fun along the way! In general, the response has been very positive, both in the AFOL and wider community, especially in my home country, where everyone seems really proud of us regardless of final outcome. If the show runs again next year, by all means, give it a go! Just remember that it is a TV show, so don't expect it to be anything like building MOCs at home or building for AFOL exhibitions. Enter for the fun of it and the overall experience. DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FINAL YET AND DON't WANT ANY SPOILERS! Huge congratulations to Nate & Steve, you did a fabulous final build! (I still think you should have been given two trophies!) Enjoy installing your creation in LEGO House. Nate, Faolán and I are expecting to see you in Billund at next year's EB event!!
  11. This is a remarkable rendition of an excellent story. I love the interior detail (those wallpaper elements must have been an expensive purchase, but worth it!) The variation in the bedrooms and furniture, each with its own design and motifs, is truly impressive.
  12. Hey, guys, how real are these rumours? Is there much foundation in known fact or is everyone getting carried away with the speculation of the moment? I only ask because I don't want to get my hopes up only to have them cruelly dashed later. At the same time, if there is truth to these rumors, I need to start saving my money NOW!
  13. OOh, this topic is almost too exciting for words! As someone unfortunate enough to come out of a long Dark Age just as the last HP sets were disappearing off the shelves, I'm holding my breath!
  14. Of course there were things we could have done better, but hindsight is always perfect vision! I think, if I were to do it all again, I would go for larger models using more 2xn bricks, (more like what you see in Legoland parks). Some of our smaller, detailed stuff turned out to be not very impressive on TV cameras. Also, I would practise more spur-of-the-moment unplanned builds, as these are definitely a weak area for me. Even at the EB event two years ago, Faolán and I experienced "brain freeze" during the timed, unplanned Alternative Polybag challenge! (that evening, in the cabin, we came up with all sorts of fantastic builds from those three polybags, but it was too late by then!) The parts were not sorted between rounds. The production teams "helped" us clear our tables by sweeping whatever was on each table into empty drawers, but, other than that, if we wanted to resort our bricks or tidy our areas, we had to do it during the precious, designated build-time. Likewise, if we needed to use parts that were tied up in a previous build, we had to disassemble that model duing the time alloted for the next build! Hence, the messily demolished rocking horse behind our workstation!
  15. Contestants are bound by non-disclosure agreements, so I can't really say too much about the show until it has run its course. However, I can say that, for round one, the 14 hour time limit felt really short! When we walked into the build room, we were all seeing it for the first time, so we didn't know where anything was. The "sorting" system was crazy, so we ended up spending almost half our time searching for parts! Sometimes it was a case of "I've spent 20 minutes looking for a part; do I keep looking or do I give up and substitute?" But one can only substitute so many times before everything falls apart (literally!) We were all given our brief a couple of days beforehand so we had a little bit of time to prepare, hence the plans seen on the tables. We were not allowed to request our own selection of bricks; some elements were plentiful whilst others were very scarce or non-existent. Each team was given the exact same assortment of bricks (except for the big bins of 2xn bricks behind the tables, each team was assigned a different, single colour of these) The atmosphere was very friendly. The camaraderie between teams was wonderful and, for me, that was the highlight of the show. We all had fun and it never felt fiercely competitive. Indeed, advice was shared and we tried to help each other out when searching for parts. Then again, having fun is what LEGO is all about!
  16. With the vast array of sets of all sizes and themes that TLG puts out every year, what's the point in complaining about one or two? If you don't like a set, don't buy it! There's such a big selection; just choose another one!
  17. I think it's important to remember that a TV show is primarily, regardless of content, a TV show; therefore it must entertain. The show is meant to be lighthearted and fun, exploring the wide variety of LEGO fans out there (not just AFOLs) and not at all condescending. Building on camera with a strict time limit, a pre-selected collection of bricks and several other limitations is very different to what most AFOLs would be used to, so it's best to just enjoy the show in the spirit in which it is intended, not as one might critique MOCs at an AFOL exhibition. As the contestants are varied in ages and walks of life, the judges represent a variety of personalties and viewpoints, none superior or mocking.
  18. Hi Nate! Welcome to Eurobricks! Yes, I've heard of LEGO MASTERS Looking forward to seeing some of your MOCs and maybe hanging out in the town forum.
  19. Just stumbled on this thread; really handy for the heads-up on what is currently available from B&P without havlng to do the long trawl through set and element numbers! One question though: I thought stuff like Nexo Knights wasn't considered licensed as it is an in-house theme. Likewise the new animal moulds; does TLG treat them same as licensed or are they just added here in this thread for convenience?
  20. Actually, I have hi-res images but don't know how to upload them properly. If I try to add something with the "choose files" option, I'm told max allowed is 40.96kb. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?
  21. Indeed, a great idea for joining disparate sections of modulars and side-streets!
  22. Evil, alien plant monsters have erupted from the streets in the centre of town! Minifigures run in terror as maelevolent vines and tendrils burst through windows and invade buildings! But never fear, our trusty friends, the DC Superheros, are rushing to the rescue! Many elements came together (literally!) to form this ensemble work. Architecture, organic forms, pop culture, high drama and humour are combined in a fun way to make you smile and, hopefully, with enough detail to keep you looking for a long while. It is meant to be viewed from all sides, so to get lots more detail, please go to my gallery and click on the folder option on the left-hand side of the page: http://janetvand.deviantart.com/gallery/ The entire display is comprised of 19,941 pieces and took just under three months to build. It is making its debut at the BRICK Live show in London next week. Credit for the minifigure placement and various superhero scenarios goes to my son, Faolán, whose attention to detail and quirky sense of humour brought the finished model to life.
  23. On behalf of my daughter and myself, I wanted to say thanks for another great event! It's a pity I had to leave early and miss some of the contests, etc.,but I hear it was all good fun, I'll see you all in Billund next year!
  24. Two Green Arrows now held for you! We can sort out later, either a trade or a reasonable price based on average bricklink minus a bit.
