  1. I can see them doing Krusty Burger and the school before Android's. Maybe the school would be the front half like most of the Friends sets? Surely, there's no chance they'd do a casino or Moe's. I'd buy Homer's car, it's hilarious! It would be nice if they'd do a few smaller sets. The backyard treehouse, for instance.
  2. That looks spot on! I really like the idea of micro downtown buildings.
  3. A bank, post office, or pharmacy doesn't have to be too large...it could be envisioned as part of a smaller or midsize town or just a branch location. What time of year do we normally get more concrete rumours/intell? (When did we first hear about the DO?) Edit: I just did a search and it was June. In this thread, at least.
  4. I purchased the DO and Trevi Fountain in store. Considered the Tower of Orthanc and Ghostbusters Ecto but my sister said to pass on both. I got the free Bionicle polybag but when I asked to get the Elves one instead the cashier said it only comes with Elves purchase. Since I bought a PAB cup a week ago I already have the Bionicle poly so I guess I should have just said to keep it, I've got no interest in that theme.
  5. I always mean to budget but haven't for any of my various collections. In theory, my Lego collection is mainly modulars (and related sets that can be modified to work in a city layout like Friends shops, etc.) and minifigs (superheroes, CMFs, and SW). I do have some LOTR, one Harry Potter set, a few Lego movie sets, and SW microfighters so you see how I'm not terribly strict with my guidelines. I make some effort to find things on sale or wait until double points. In general, I try not to go crazy and keep in mind that there's only so much room to display things. Since I shop with either my sister or boyfriend I like to imagine that they will restrain me if necessary, but they're fairly non-judgmental over my purchases.
  6. Love it! Overheard a fellow at the PAB wall saying he was looking for bigger tires for a mini Tumbler and thought it was a great idea.

London Drugs Special Toy Savings Mar 6 to Apr 8 Friends Heartlake Air Balloon or Hair Salon $31.99; Lighthouse 39.99 DC Black Manta Strike $39.99 City 4x4 with Powerboat $31.99 Storage head sort and store $24.99 Strangely, there were some discounts on sets that said available soon on the website (Elves?!).
  8. How do we know at this stage, though? I think there's more stickers than new printed pieces. For example, the soup can looks like a sticker to me.
  9. There's a picture of the interior with Bart holding a newspaper and Apu at the counter - the purple squishee is beside the machine. See more images on the Brickset database page http://brickset.com/sets/71016-1 The more details I see, the more I like this set!
  10. It's more a personal preference about expanding the DO. I got into modulars late so don't have a lot of the bigger sets and I feel that the DO will fit in with the ones I have. The two blues might bug me a bit more. I'm waiting for double points before buying the DO but yes, I'm not as eager to get it as I was with some of the earlier models. Has anyone made the GB HQ into a smaller modular? It's on my to-do list.
  11. I skipped the house and the first wave of minifigs but will be quite tempted by these sets. One complaint I have is that the squad car looks so blocky.
  12. Great landscaping!
  13. Very nice. The predator head looks really good.
  14. It's not cheaper in Canada, especially when the Cdn dollar is on par. Comparing lego.com list prices by country: Ghostbusters Ecto-1 is $59.99 cdn, 49.99 usd; Detectives Office 199.99 cdn, 159.99 usd; Tower of Orthanc $249.99 cdn, 199.99 usd. Taxes are 12% in BC and we don't always get the same great sales offered in US stores. Shipping to Canada is almost always more than shipping to the US. I think for comparisons you have to look at msrp. Edit: if we are slightly cheaper it's only due to the current low Cdn dollar.

  16. What I don't understand is why they don't knock off the sets that have practically zero chance of passing review at the start of the review process. Yes, the helicarrier and frozen palace reached 10,000 votes but do they need to wait months until the review process ends to be turned down? I also think they need to have size guidelines clearly laid out. There's no point teasing people if there is an unwritten guideline that sets of a certain size have a very low possibility of passing, just put it in writing already.
  17. I'm wondering if they would use this new piece in an official modular building? Although, if it's found in 3 Elves sets they might not want to use it in another theme, at least very soon. It would be nice if they introduced a new color like a sand orange to represent a reddish standstone.
  18. As mentioned earlier, some of us are just out of our dark ages. Even though MF was out in 2012 if you missed it, it can be quite discouraging to look at market prices now. And how long ago was studio? Some themes regularly get repeats and reboots of the same characters - look at superheroes and Star Wars. Overall, I think the minifigs are improving over time. A few of the early SW and Harry Potter faces are really bland. I'm looking forward to 14 and will probably get most of the figs I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to feel what's what. Guess we'll see what some of the accessories are.

TRU is having a sale on some superhero sets and Hobbit sets, in store and online. They also had a fair number of the Elves sets, which were on the shelves near the Friends.
  20. I know, I don't like the "who are you shopping for today?" Plus my mother pointing out the age range on the box makes me cringe!
