Design a Direct-To-Consumer (D2C) Results!
Andy D replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Congratulations to the winners! All the entries were winners just for competing. Thanks to EB for the contest, it was fun to see some of the best work by the contestants. I am looking forward to the next D2C contest. Andy D -
I will buy ASAP! That's what happened to me. One modular led to another and another and another. I just wanted the CC, but I now have the CC, GG, GE and the FH. Looks like I have a new LEGO collection where I was just going to have one then back to other LEGO interests, instead I have a new LEGO interest! I do not believe many can buy/build just one modular. Great! I'll get one as soon as it is available! Andy D

Brick Extraction from LDD
Andy D replied to ale8oneboy's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDD manager looks like it has a function I need to make a parts list from an .lxf file, but it appears to only work in WIndows, is there something like his for Mac OS? Thanks, Andy -
With LDD I have heard of n option to submit a design to LEGO and they will part it out for you. How does this usually cost out compared to Briklink? Thx Andy

Hmmmm... You got off lucky. I just finished the CC buying pieces and I think I spent about $200 -$225 or so, but better than $300 - $500 or more. I had to compromise on the dark red and use red, but it looks ok. I still need a few decorative pieces and I will get them someday. To the OP, I started off just wanting the CC but soon saw the GE and got that one (just finished building it today). I have a second GE that I plan to use as a start to build a GG, still need quite a few parts for the GG but it will still be cheaper than buying from eBay. I didn't think I wanted the FB, but decided to get it anyway. I will assemble it but will most likley use it for parts for another modular. I'm not sure that you can get just one modular. I started off to do that, but soon found I wanted more to add to my street. Good luck ;) AndyD

How open are you about your Lego passion?
Andy D replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Am I the only LEGO senior citizen here? I do not hide my LEGO hobby from anyone, I really don't care what others think about my hobby. I buy LEGO online (LEGO, Amazon. eBay, Bricklink, etc.) I also buy LEGO from Target, LEGOLand, and the LEGO Store. I even have a VIP card and use it. My wife and I have annual passes to our local LEGOLand. I started building LEGO many years ago, (I was over 40 then) then stopped for several years and started back up in 2008 with Mindstorms. Now I just buy and build anything that looks interesting from several themes. I look at LEGO as art and building satisfies my artistic creation needs. Last Christmas my son (now 30) and I built a couple of sets I got for Christmas. He has not built LEGO in 15 or more years, now he says he wants to start building again as well. LEGO jut might be another connection with my son, which I think is great. Do not be ashamed of your hobby. Andy -
Great Land Speeder. I really like the colors. Andy D

MOD: Pullman "Emerald Belle" Observation Car 10194
Andy D replied to AussieJimbo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks, I got the windscreen pieces and another EN. Now to just build a slightly modified version of your observation car. I am going to try to use another pair (one on each side) of the standard EN windows on the front instead of two of the smaller windows. Thanks again for the idea. Later, Andy D -

MOD: Pullman "Emerald Belle" Observation Car 10194

Great MOD! This is the design that I believe makes the best last car in an EN train. You have inspired me to try this as soon as I get a second EN! Keep it up! Andy D -
LEGO model design application
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Do you know of any tutorials on the Internet that might help with my learning curve using Photoshop or Gimp (preferably Photoshop) to do this? Thanks, Andy D -
LEGO model design application
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks! I have Photoshop CS4, so maybe I will see what I can do. In the other thread there was some discusion about plug-ins for Gimp (Photoshop?). Any idea where they might be available? Thanks, Andy D -
LEGO model design application
Andy D posted a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I don’t know if this is the correct place or not, but here goes… I once heard of an application that allows one to input a drawing or photo and the application will then convert or guide you thorough the conversion from the photo (or drawing) to a LEGO model. Does such a program exist? If so, where would I find it? Thanks, Andy D -
Same here. I often check prices and whatnot on my iPad and the new layout and features just don't work well at all. I hope LEGO realizes that a mobil interface is very helpful and sometimes necessary for some folks. Andy D

I just received "The Art of LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G Programming" I like it so far (and I am way, way older than 14) it looks like a very good introduction to design, programming and debugging, I hope it lives up to Terry's intentions. I Have the NXT-2.0 Discovery book (just got it a week or so ago and it seems very good). The Idea book and One Kit Wonders are somewhat classics and very good. I have David's original Inventor's guide, it was my first NXT book and very helpful, I plan to ge the NXT 2.0 Inventors guide just because. Downloaded (and paid for) The "LEGO Technic Tora no Maki" URL: LEGO Technic Tora no Maki and it looks really interesting. You can check it out free, but if you decide to keep it, please pay for it as it will encourage him and others to publish more PDF books. The structures are really simple but for me some were eye openers. Andy D

This poll would have been better for me if allowed to select more than one answer. I intend to... I am waiting for TLG to issue the 8043 "Service Pack" in October 2010, to replace the faulty parts. - and - I have built Jurgen Krooshoop's "Ultimate 8043 Motorized Excavator" instead (or intend to do so). [intend to build it as well.] Andy D
-
When is this event held? Thanks, Andy D
-
Thanks to all for the messages of welcome! I am sure I will like the Excavator, it appears it will be a complex and fun build and I should learn more about gearing and construction technique which I can apply to other builds. I am really enjoying reading and seeing the wonderful MOC's presented in this forum. There are really some very talented builders who frequent this forum, I am glad I found it! Thanks, Andy D

8043 Excavator - Lego update
Andy D replied to tomacwhite's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the link! Now just waiting for LEGO service pack to assemble the model. Andy D -
Thanks! That is what is so great about LEGO. There is something there to satisfy many of our needs. LEGO has such great growth potential for all. Children can start off expressing their artistic abilities which can lead to the expression of our artistic abilities throughout our lives. With NXT (and other robotic platforms) they can learn to appreciate their scientific curiosity and learn logical though process. These artistic and scientific outlets can and do carry over into our adult lives as is evident by the number of AFOL's and TFOL's present here and on other forums. As long as we express our imagination (however we do that) it will help to keep us young and active (even 'Old Guy's" like me). Keep on building, keep on creating. Andy D

8043 Excavator - Lego update
Andy D replied to tomacwhite's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How does one go about getting on the list for the service packs? I purchased my 8043 last week and have not had a chance to start building. Now I think I would just rather wait for the corrections before I do build this model. Thanks, Andy D
