  1. Why do people start topics like this? Do you think that if someone would know anything, they would not post here?
  2. aqaz I agree with you. I made 1-2 mocs so far (they are very far from the great mocs, but I really enjoyed making them, especially when I was able to finish them), and I also built several official models from instructions. I enjoyed both, but I agree that designing and building something on your own is the best thing you can do with lego. However, I have very limited time (work, kids, other hobbies), so when I finally have 1-2 hours to play lego, in many cases I prefer to build something from instructions, which I can finish in 1-2 hours, instead of starting something, and then putting it away for weeks. When I was a kid, I hade plenty of time, but limited access to lego (it was quite expensive and inaccessible here). Now it is the opposite, since I have my own job, I can buy lego, but I have barely any time playing with them.
  3. Completely offtopic, sorry about that. Why do people use brickshelf, instead of some ordinary picture sharing site, like picasa?
  4. Use u-joint instead of bevel gears at the claw. You will need to redesign a bit the upper arm, to make sure none of the u-joints will meet more than about 50 (?) degree, otherwise they won't work.
  5. I didn't know that. But if this would have been faster, I think I couldn't record this movie. There are situations, where it should move just a little bit forward/backward, where low speed is needed. I tried a faster setting with a IR speed remote (for steering also), but it wasn't comfortable to operate the vehicle.
  6. Yes, that is the part which is used in some official forklift sets, to attach the chain to the fork/body. I don't have this part, but it doesn't seems to be a trivial thing to fix the fork to this element. What is the size of those holes? I guess it is not big enough for a regular pin, is it? Yes, it is that slow. It is easy to change the gearing and make it faster, but I wanted it to be strong enough to go across a few small objects, and climb up some small slope without the gears start to slip.
  7. I agree with you completely, using chains instead of string would look much better. I was trying to do that, but I could not come up with a nice solution to stict the last element of the chain to the fork/body. There is a set which used the small chain, see here how it fixed the chain to the fork. Another problem with the chain is that I think it is not as strong as the string, even if it was used double on the two sides. But still if anyone has a nice idea how to do the fork with the small chain, I would appreciate that. Thanks for the comments.
  8. Hi, I was originally building Nico's forklift (which I really like), but since it is an 5 years old design, it is not utilizing some of the recenty released new parts. So I decided to try and change it, mainly to use a servo for steering. I finally ended up creating a new body, only kept the fork. I know the result is not great, but I thought I post it here, since it wasn't easy for me to do this. It is using a servo for steering, L motor for propulstion, and two M motors to operate the fork.
  9. I don't understand how it works. I see that it blends in one direction, but how does it blend in the other direction?
  10. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but wasn't that on purpose? I mean the two tracks could slightly blend, to make it possible to adopt to a terrain with small bumps. If you attach the motor to the chasis, then you loose this, because both tracks will be fixed to the chasis.
  11. I noticed that the number of track elements in this set is the same as needed by the b model of 8043, which is great news for me, I willbe able to make the b mol without the need of disassembling the main one. I think I have everything else.
  12. I agree, I finished it recently too. My only concern is that when you try to change the angle of the blades, sometimes the moving part won't fall off, so you have to shake the model a bit.
  13. Am I the only adult who buys modular buildings, builds them, and then let my children play with them? Especially the town hall with all the wedding event possibilities is a great fun for the kids. So playability is quite important for me, it makes an excuse to buy these big sets :)
  14. Looks great. Why did you change the suspension type?
  15. I think I read somewhere, that there will be building instructions for 17 different robots, but you can only build 5 of them with the standard kit. For the remaining 12 you need additional parts, probably the extension kit.
  16. Are these huge cranes use the standard turn table? How does that handle this big weight? Any chance getting a new stronger turntable with the new crane?
  17. That prevents this: from rotating too much, when the motor is stopped, but the blades are still spinning. Added in step 2 of page 14 of the second book.
  18. I guess the extension set will contain an additional motor, and maybe more sensors?
  19. Are you sure it has 4 motor ports? I know that the website says that, but maybe it is a mistake? Because later down it says: In the box you’ll find the following: 3 Interactive Servo Motors: 2 large and 1 medium, both have encoders.
  20. Wouldn't it be better, if only those could vote, who buy lego sets? For example each box could contain a coupon (big boxes could contain even more), and one coupon would be equal to one vote? Sorry if it was mentioned before.
  21. I don't understand people complaining about the weakness of the studless technique. The beams are narrower, so they are obviously weaker than studded beams, no doubt. But you can make weak models with studded beams, and I'm pretty sure you can make strong models from studless beams. This is a decision of the design I think. It seems TLG doesn't think that strength is so important, so they sacrifice some of it for other things, maybe more functions, or just to cut costs by using less beams. Back to the topic, I also feel that this is a very good era for technic. I think the FP helped a lot, because I think there would be much less good mocs out there if there was no FP and no remote control. I guess the whole TT scene wouldn't be so strong without FP and remote control.
  22. I remember reading this topic when it was first posted, and I was really impressed. Then I was trying to search for it, but for some reason I couldn't, so thanks Myrtonos for bumping it again. I love complex builds, and I think this is the best I've ever seen. I still don't understand how it works, if I had the parts, I would build this right away. If this was an official set, it would be an immediate buy for me. Grats!
  23. It seems there will be no new remote controller. :(
  24. I'm really happy that it is not motorized, and I guess I'm not the only one.
