  1. Hey all, closing in on the 1K milestone for my Lego Ideas quest, would very much appreciate anyone willing to lend a vote and help me over the hump =)
  2. Awesome! The escalators were the foundation for the whole mall (although the first thing I did for the overall build was make sure I could get a satisfactory phone booth).
  3. Thank you! =) This is definitely one of my favorite non-spaceship builds I've done in a while.
  4. okay so...technically this is sci-fi, but the build style is pure town/city. Overall view (Animated) "Lid off" view - Escalator closeup Phone booth / ice rink closeup Overall view (Top down) Music store closeup Food Court closeup Sporting goods closeup Fitness Center closeup Historical Costume photobooth Rear view (for power functions) Bonus: smooth escalator side-rail technique:
  5. Presumably this works because the technic axles are just enough smaller than the axle holes to permit some wiggle room, but I can't find the *amount* by which they are smaller. Notably Technic/System SNOT "illegal" technique has an 0.12mm error, and the "rest a brick on a Lego logo" SNOT illegal technique has an 0.14mm error... anyone have some high precision calipers?
  6. this is absolutely fantastic, thank you for sharing.
  7. like....a specific one?
  8. thanks! =)
  9. Experimenting with some HDR photography techniques to try and get the lighting how I wanted... Looks like there have been some mixup on this alien’s first contact mission to Earth: perhaps not a complete bust after all Duplicate of first shot, but with a little bit more detail in the mix to see the actual construction
  10. Just want to say "Tensor Deflector" is a great riff on "Vector Detector"! Your models are great too!
  11. oof is that why the licensed-set markup just notably shot up?
  12. thanks! I spent a few weeks meditating on ways I could combine the bath panda with the orange wheels before remembering I also had an unbuilt GWP Carrot House and that dump-truck bed.
  13. thanks! nice signature btw ;)
  14. thanks! I have a couple other nifty Duplo elements I've been eyeing and haven't quite figured out how I'll use yet, but this one obviously had to take priority.
  15. nice continued use of the Bionicle elements!
  16. My third, and likely final Space Jam 2023 entry - this time for Bio-Mechanical Fusion. Friendly and intelligent sustainable harvest equipment Working rear "dump truck" for unloading harvested shoots Not sure if this is a "legal" technique, but the underside of brick separator handles has pretty respectable clutch power Modular (dis)-assembly is important when key parts are also toddler bath toys
  17. Understood I have an SGI O2+ from '96 under my table too, but every time I plug it in it trips the circuit breaker Anyway, I'll poke around and see what I can discover.
  18. that's awesome - I had no idea that little sensor window hole was pin / stud sized! This is actually perfect as I've been pondering that the MicroScout tucked away inside would be a great standalone smart brick for incorporating some motorized functions into a big spaceship build, but hadn't settled on how to control it pseudo-remotely yet.
  19. I do have an old Windows XP machine but I haven't turned it on in almost a decade and would be honestly surprised if it works. I wonder if it shows up as standard "USB Serial" device to the OS? That would make it easier to figure out! I thought I saw you mention somewhere that Bricx CC (which I've used in the past) knows how to use the both the VLL and IR components of the tower, but I was never aware until today that there was a VLL capability in the USB tower, so I'm curious to dig into that a bit.
  20. oh the fiber optics is a neat twist. do you have a thread somewhere showing that setup? I'm curious how many extra parts are needed to hold it all together.
  21. @Toastie - I am wondering if you know a resource with documentation on how to interface with the USB tower from the computer side! I've been thinking of learning Rust and it would be nice project to create a modern device driver, especially for Mac/Linux users!
  22. I've seen an unreleased "Micro Scout PC Link" set referenced in a few places and I'd been wondering what that was about. Sounds like it might just have turned out to be using the white LED on the USB IR tower as a remote?
  23. It looks like there is source code here - https://sourceforge.net/p/bricxcc/code/HEAD/tree/ - I think Pascal? I've been cogitating on using my Flipper Zero to interface with my RCX for a while. Have you been working on this at all?
  24. Bit of a necropost, but since this thread is one of the top Google results for searches on how to fix Microscout buttons, I wanted to chime in that I'd found a bit of a faster/easier solution to clean the graphite contacts. Probably don't want to do this too many times overall, but for those who have confirmed the graphite contacts are the problem and just to want to get up and running again quickly:
