"Ah, let me guess. Worked hard all of your life, finally tired of the pitchfork, and - pardon the lame humor - decided you'd strike out for greener fields?"The Munchkin scratched his head, and mumbled to himself. "Wasn't there a song about that...How'd that go again..."

"That depends on what your definition of the right place. Either way, welcome to the Hall." "I think it's more than "seems", I think it is a good idea. A lot of the discord between the various populaces and ruling classes of Olegia comes from the fact that there's no way for the rulers to experience the troubles and issues that take place beyond the gates of their chambers and palaces, and there's no way for the populaces to inform them, other than by proxy messengers, who are always going to be biased one way or the other. Having a Hero that's also a member of a ruling class creates an excellent way to start recognizing those troubles and issues, at least in regards to Titaan. Maybe the idea'll spread to other realms as well."

Main Street Mafia: Sign Ups!
Lind Whisperer replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Can you ever really play mafia?* Almost certainly. Also, I want to make sure to get first call on a pirate gear vendor store. Because everyone else is obviously going to call that one first thing. Selling pirate gear, because pirates are awesome! Defiantly. You can't take the sea from me. *This is funniest when read aloud in the voice of a generic slacker sitcom character applying for a job. UPDATE: I am afraid that I will not be able to play, due to the fact that I need to increase my focus on my non-LEGO life. -
There's honestly nothing quite like Leiber's work out there - although some surprising (and positive) similarities can be drawn between Lankhmar and Eubric. Really good stuff. I'd suggest you start out with either The Cloud of Hate, or Lean Nights in Lanhkmar - they encompass the style of the series as a whole.I think Sir Pratchett actually included a couple of characters based on the Mouser and Fafherd - I believe they were called The Weasel and Bothered, or something like that. I really must check out his work someday... Well, to be fully honest, for a while it was more Lind the player. But after a few months, the newbie urge to be "The most awesome person in the (Heroica) universe," wore off, and and I learned to settle down and enjoy the game as a game, not as a race/challenge. (Although I'm still working on balancing between RP and acting. It's a constant learning experience. )

Unfortunately I've never seen the movie, so I don't get the joke.I had just discovered Fitz Leiber when I started playing in #103. I think that explains the inspiration fully. That's the point.Lind, (the character), is trying to be a "big guy," and make a name for himself. And it's not going that well. (For a good example of the trope, see the "I'm...Star Lord." GotG scene.)

The Munchkin sighed. He had been planning on taking a break. Ah, well - duty never stops calling. With a large flourish, The Grey Foxer(Lind Whisperer) signed his name up to the top of the sign-up sheet for #134.

Excellent points, and thank you for making them.

If that's how you phrase your observations, I'd hate to be the subject of a critique. Not sure where being "special" had anything to do with what I said - probably because it didn't. Good try on the straw-man, though. High-five! Grapes always do taste so sour, don't they? That's a fair explanation/reason, but it still didn't exactly help speed the quest up. The QM was finally ready to roll, and we had to wait while we hashed out whether or not players could equip/de-equip gear on other players. Again, nice straw-man. And now, stepping back and reading all of that over, I realize that I need to take a step back - I'm tending a little too much towards snark. Not that what I've said isn't true - although I suppose that comment about the grapes was a little more snarky than necessary - but I need to step back and breathe.

That's a choice on the side of the Players. Lore-wise, Orcs are one of the most populous races. Let's take a little trip down memory lane - because the buildings look a little bit different than the image you're trying to create.A newbie rogue joins a high-leveled party. Another player lends him a medal so that he'll level up quicker, and be less of a drag on the party. Through an unexpected twist of luck/fate, that rogue gets a special, expensive medal. The player who had loaned the rogue the first medal, starts PMing the rogue, suggesting that they trade medals. The rogue doesn't want to do that - he's in this game for the long term, and that medal is a lucky break for him. The rogue offers to trade medals for the short-to-long term, but the player doesn't want to do that, he wants to buy the medal. The rogue says no. The player doesn't like that answer, though, and keeps asking to buy the medal. The rogue says no - he needs that medal for his character. The player won't take no as an answer though, and keeps pestering him, until the rogue ends the conversation. Immediately afterwards, the player demands back the medal he loaned the rogue - and holds up an already painfully slowed-down quest to do it, too. The rogue is still a newbie for a long time afterwards - he's getting used to the game, understanding the rules, how the whole thing works. He occasionally makes suggestions for changes he thinks would help the game, and he's trying to tell his own little part of the story. But he's trying to learn, and he's trying to improve. The player "coincidentally" always happens to be the first, or near-first, commentator on any of his suggestions - always highlighting his mistakes, always criticizing him. The criticisms are often valid - but the player goes out of his way to criticize anything and everything that the rogue suggests or does. Does any of this really matter? Maybe not. The rogue is more confident now - he's no longer a newbie. He's learned the rules, and he's learning how to improve. He still makes mistakes - everyone in the game does - but he's a part of the game now. He's no longer a frightened newbie, painfully embarrassed every time a mistake is highlighted and emphasized. He fixes the mistake, apologizes where necessary, and moves on. He's having fun, playing with other people, and being part of one of the greatest games on the net. And he's looking forward to keeping on* being part of that game. *Albeit after an upcoming absence.

Dual-function approved by Sandy, SP piercing added as I was retooling the battle for higher levels. Dropping a single gem was in the battle part of my original Pitch, back when it was for level 1s. I don't think two is exactly that ridiculous for a party that's +9 levels or more beyond that. A weaker, reskinned version of Magician's Gloves. They belonged to Lucustoids, it made sense that they'd be immune to wind. Also part of my original Pitch. I wouldn't call "usable by about 1/4th of Olegia's population," as being narrow. If you're referring to the power, it's +6 at its maximum, for a player that's level 12. On the higher end of things, yes, but not enormously so. Don't you mean, all from the guy that wouldn't sell you his Medal to aid you in becoming OP'd?

When a Hero throws a throwing/ranged weapon from the back row, they do the same damage to enemies that they would on the front - throwing/ranged weapons don't have negative row damage modifiers. Now, what about when an enemy throws a throwing/ranged weapon against a Hero? Does the halved damage to row apply to their attack, even though it wouldn't apply for a Hero?
-
QM Note: Throwing/ranged weapons don't receive damage penalties from row when a Hero throws them, I was assuming that it would be the same for an NPC. I'm changing it for the moment, but I'm definitely asking a question about it in Rules and FAQ.

My bad, and yes.
-
It wouldn't have something you could embue or remove, like most elemental weapons, it would just be a weapon that could deal 2x damage to Ethereal enemies.
-
As a QM, if it was up to me, I'd rule that Fire did full x2 damage. The wind effect doesn't counteract the fire effect, it just doesn't boost it. But, then again, I don't see myself mixing Ethereal with a second element in the first place...Are there any weapons that deal Ethereal damage? Now there's a sweet drop...
-
Good point. Huh. Good to know.
-
Yes, last battle - why?
-
Ouch. That's gonna hurt...
-
QM Note: Fixed. In that case, Miderun is also down 5 health from the prior round. QM Note: The healer is Asleep - are you sure you want to target it?

Heroes can only be KO'd, thanks to the Aurora Nornalis, unless the player chooses perma-death, like in #105. Or, in the speculative case of a quest that specifically will result in perma-death. (I used to have plans for such a quest, but they are currently off the table.) I wonder if as a Munchkin, Lind would be aware of this...Probably not - even assuming that "Munchkin ears are everywhere" - which they aren't - that's most likely too closely held a secret for them to know about.

The Black Knight smirked. "You might say that their plan blew up in their faces.Above their faces, actually...Long story." "Impressive, especially the arch-demon. Eight too many of those things out there." "Well, I'd normally say that there's no time to get back to work like the present, but that board is unpleasantly empty, so...No time like the indeterminate future?"
