AG - Introduction and Discussion
Lind Whisperer replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Andromeda's Gates
Thanks. Since it seemed like a common enough question that it must have come up before, I flipped through the first few pages of the thread - my bad for not being energetic enough to do that in the first place. Looks like another M.A.N.T.I.S. will be joining the ranks shortly. -
AG - Introduction and Discussion

Is it acceptable to use a combination of 6 Green and Black for a M.A.N.T.I.S. sigfig? -
The time has sadly come for me to leave and take my hiatus. In the case that it ends up being a couple of years before I can come back, and if Heroica has ended by then, I just want to say a sincere thank you to everyone. It's been beyond fun, playing and learning with everyone else these last few months. May all of your swords be swift, your magics sharp, and your shields strong. ~Lind Whisperer

Quest #131 Overall and all things considered, I'd say that the quest turned out fairly well. I think that most of the problems stemmed from the fact that the quest was originally written for 1-5, and I was unprepared to retool it for higher levels. (Of course, the loot in that case would probably have been even more ridiculous - the original list had what was essentially a renamed Lucky Die on it! ) As others have noted, I'm afraid the plot was somewhat thin. I think that that might not have been quite so obvious if the players as well as the characters were new to Heroica. For an introductory, "Here's how the game works," quest, it would have been perfect, for a party made up of experienced players...not so much. Of course, there is the reasonable counter-argument that QMs should put an equal amount of effort into every quest, regardless of player experience, and I'm not arguing with that at all. But I have a bad tendency to over-reach when it comes to detail, and I was trying to write a very simple quest for practice, before I moved onto anything much more complex. The part about Sean Cole and The Ancient both being made out of sand was not in the original plan - originally, all the NPCs were humans, including Cole, and there was no such character as The Ancient. But Sandy suggested that I look into having a variety of enemy types in the quest, since all I had was a bunch of humanoids and four beasts(the horses). So, I tried to be creative - which is how you get, eh, "unique" characters like Qabic. For the second battle, I had the idea of a vampire dressed up in a grey dress coat like a banker, and as I was making him, I suddenly thought that it would be a funny idea to have a character that was a vampire and a Fenarian. I had planned on his companion being an orc, but I went through several different versions before sticking with the simple loin-cloth design. I was reminded of KoTOR's Rakata, and I decided to call him The Ancient. His breaking apart into sand just seemed to fit his character. Long story short, without giving away too much future plot detail, I then was faced with making Cole. But at this point, I'd built him up so much, I felt that a normal human NPC would be a disappointment. Then, I suddenly had the idea of his face not being visible, and having him be the same sort of orc as the Ancient... Well, like I said, future plot details. All-in-all, the ending wasn't the worst, but it really needs an immediate follow-up quest for the whole "reclaimation" thing to really work - and that's sadly not going to happen, at least in the real world. Possibly in-game, due to the Timey-Wimey ball, but not in real life. My apologies to everyone on that. Loot: Pyrovisonary put it best - it's the little drops that give the bigger drops meaning. Lesson learned. World Design: Could have been worse, but I should have made sure that my Blender plans worked before I submitted the quest. Characters: Vindsval: I'm afraid to say anything that might break the magic. Great interaction, great role-play, and great effort. Definitely one of my(and I'm quite certain, others') favorite characters, and I'd love to host you again someday. A+++ Annienal: With a lot of characters, Diplomacy doesn't really work. With Annienal, it does. That's something in and of itself. That, plus your interactions with Bobby, made for a fun character to watch. Love to host her again anytime. Warlen: *Constructive criticism mode initiated.* Warlen's a good character, and I definitely can see a good future for him, but I think you need to slow down a little when you playing. He's a very fast character, rushing to a full rainbow as fast as he could, always the first to cast a spell. That's not a bad thing, but I think you're where I was even as recently as a few months back - trying to catch up to the level 30s and 40s as fast as you can. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing either, and I fully understand the feeling, but I think you might want to try and slow down just a little. Just spend a little more time enjoying the game, and a little less trying to race to the "finish." Either way, he's got good potential and I'd definitely host him a second time. Miderun: I like her. You manage to hit a good balance in your playing - she's not exactly a peaceful character, but neither does she hit the extremity of being a very violent character - which is impressive. Love to host you again. Bobby: I might try interacting just a little bit more with NPCs. What you did was fine, but for some reason you just didn't feel quite as "there" as the other players. Either way, I'd gladly host you again. All in all, #131's been a good learning experience, and it was fun to host and watch. Thanks to everyone who played, and thanks to Sandy for making this game a possibility in the first place.

The Black Knight frowned. He was not very well acquainted with the half-elf. But, he was one of the few other Heroes that the Knight had become acquainted with during these few months that he hadn't quarreled with. And he did have to head homeward as quickly as possible...The Black Knight slowly slid the shining Anniversary Medal off from around his neck. He paused a moment, and looked into the gleaming gold, at the bright shining A. Had it really been less than a year since he won it? He slowly handed the Medal and the Plasma Shield to the half-elf, watching the Medal swing around on its bright purple ribbon. "Wear them well." He didn't say anything more than that. He just simply walked across the floor to the door, and stepped out into the cold night air. With the door shut behind him, he turned for a moment, to look up at the Hall. It loomed upwards magnificently against the night sky, the cold silver stars contrasting with the warm glow from the windows. Had someone been watching, they might have almost thought that those sparkles in the corners of his eyes were tears. But whatever they were or weren't, he quickly jerked his hood up over his head and strode away through the winding streets of Eubric, towards the long winding roads beyond the town, and towards a tightly-treed forest beyond.

"Many, many thanks." The Black Knight handed the Level Up Mushroom into the ambassador's keeping.
-
"About to return home for a while, I'm afraid. I just have to finish getting my affairs in order." The Black Knight shook his head. "You wouldn't happen to know any Mystic Knights that's be interested in casting a few spells on a shield in exchange for the loan of an Anniversery Medal, would you?"
-
The Munchkin turned back to the dwarf. "Master Ambassador, would you do me a great favor? Circumstances have arisen that I need to withdraw from the Hall for an undisclosed time - would you hold onto this Level-Up Shroom for me, and make sure that the one known as the Hero known as the Demon Germ receives it?"
-
"So, you're just like every other diplomat. You're in good company there." "I'm pretty sure you could say that about everyone's political career, at one point or another."The Black Knight was just pouring himself another glass of water, when he suddenly felt a small pop in his pocket. He winced. Sure enough, it was a Z-Mail. The Munchkin reluctantly scratched his name off of #134.

Seconded heartily.

QM Note: It's on a per-round basis. There weren't any puns made for the second round, just the first...and now that I look at it, I did neglect to add the x2 modifier for the first round.

"Certainly, miss. Clay!" A greying dwarf miner with a pickaxe hurried towards their party. "Yes sir?" "Please break these two rocks open for the little elf lady." "Right away, sir." The dwarf broke open the two rocks, revealing an Aquamarine, and a Amythest. "Congratulations on the find, miss - geodes aren't the most common things." He looked up the sky. "Where does the time go...Well, here's your 200 gold each, and thanks for the excellent performance. I need to get back to work - we may have found a snug little gem stash of our own - but feel free to browse around before y'all leave - or not, whichever works."

"Ancient? Not sure what y'all are talking about. When we all moved out here, there was nothing but weeds and sand. Then one day, that Cole fellow, he comes a-riding in for the first time. We'd a-heard about him before from a few friendly Lucustoids - some lonely devil that lived some-wheres or other with a few pieces of muck ore like himself - but I've never heard of anything beyond that. Just another low-life, I reckon."

Miderun felt Cole's body strangely give way to her foot as she kicked it. There were no signs of life left in him whatsoever. The Cleric slowly pulled the hat off. At first, it barely moves, seeming almost to be secured to Cole's head...Then it gives way with a rush.A head shaped mass of crusty sand falls apart as the hat and the wig are removed. Whatever secrets Cole may have known, whatever claims he may have had to the gold - indeed, even the man himself - all of them exist no longer. With the battle ended, the mine foreman came out of the building he'd taken shelter in while the Heroes stood guard. He slapped Miderun on the shoulder. "Fine number you did there on Cole, greenie. I guess from now on, you'll be known around here as the *Woman Who Killed Sean Cole*." Miderun (CallMePie) *The Woman Who Killed Sean Cole* *Attacks cause enamored* *Absorbs Earth* *Immune to Magic* 18 year old female orc Barbarian Level 13 Power: 27 (13 + 13 + 1) Health: 21/21 (8 + 12) Defense: 3 Gold: 176 Equipment: Oculoid Claw (WP: 13, 1/6 chance of dealing the infected-effect, causing an enemy to lose health equal to 1/3 of their level rounded down at the end of each round, club), Seductive Perfume (Holder deals the enamored-effect, accessory, suitable for women), Loincloth of the Ancient (SP: 3, Absorbs Earth, footwear) Inventory: Bonaparte Cutlass (WP: 9, doubled if the user has reputation among the Bonapartes), Club(WP:5, Club), Serstyral (WP: 3, axe), War Axe (WP: 9, suitable for suitable for barbarians, alchemists, beast warriors, infiltrators, regulators and winged warriors.), Tricorne (SP: 3, headwear, suitable for anyone), Opal, Phoenix Essence, 4x Potions, Smoke Bomb, High Heels (Power +1; suitable for women.), 7 Venoms He reached into his pocket. "Now, let me see - 200 gold, I think it was?" The Quest is Successful!

QM Note: If you want to rewrite the flavor text for it, you're welcome to, just so long as it's still clear that it's +10 to healing for any healing class, +10 to poisoning for classes with the Wicked(or equivalent) trait. QM Note: Yes, yes, yes, and yes.As to the pun, I don't want to be annoying, but someone has to post a pun or at least something akin to a pun in order for the effect to take place. Warlen was Lucky when it happened, which I seem to have forgotten to roll for, so I can try a second roll if anyone wishes, but the pun multiplier won't be a part of it.
