  3. I'll second this advice. Although my ships aren't anywhere close to as big or complex or beautiful as Maxim's, I've found both of these points to be true.
  4. It looks like Kolonialbeamter's handiwork to me, too, especially with that minion holding the banana. I don't recall ever seeing that ship before, though.
  5. Great use of those panels for sails. I'll likely be stealing borrowing that idea in the future!
  6. Thanks. If there's a good way to build a banana bunch, I'm all ears. Using the leaf piece was all I cold come up with. Thanks! Thanks (and a side har-har-har)! I was happy with how the grille tiles worked. I will use that again sometime.
  7. I recognized the torso (and the head), and I like the crusty look. Very good character! And now he's tiny -- smaller than your avatar.
  8. Thanks. Yep, the angles made this worth attempting. And the flagpole is based on a period illustration I saw. Thanks! And if only! Maybe for another fort, but not this one. Thanks. I agree with the log bricks being overused most of the time, but thought they were the perfect piece here. I used the tiled supports to try to add further depth and not depend entirely on the log texture to help out. Thanks! I definitely wanted to portray a realistic fort able to withstand a fight.
  9. Just keeping up with the Joneses. Thanks! I was happy with how it came out on this build. Gotta stay prepared. Yep, not meant for show jumping, just training the horses to jump over whatever may be on the battlefield. I was very happy with being able to put the hurdle at a non-90 degree angle to the sides of the MOC. The pineapples seem to have a life of their own at this point. Zombie pineapples? Thanks! Definitely!
  10. Love the cannon design you have there! And it's Admiral de Flynt.
  11. Settlement Name: Chiquita Ownership: MCTC Location: New Haven Sea, Island #1 Mayor: TBD Size: Hamlet Who can own property in Chiquita: Anyone, from any faction. Who can freebuild in Chiquita: Anyone, from any faction. Fortifications: none. Troops: As of Nov. 5, 619, one company (30 men) of MCTC troops. Please post a link to any free-builds that take place in Chiquita in this thread. Island map:
  12. While one half of Eslandola's New Haven Sea expedition was establishing a base on Maldria, the other half of the expedition has returned to island #1 to establish a trading post. The trading post is the first property in the new settlement of Chiquita. It will serve as a focal point for harvesting bananas and breadfruit, and for continuing to develop the friendly relationship with the island's blind, tree-dwelling natives. Wait, what was that? Did you see something? Never mind. There's nothing here. The settlers might need some time to adjust to how the natives get around. ----- This MOC first appeared in my AMRCA thread, but I re-posted it here for licensing purposes, and it also allowed me to include more pictures. All C&C welcome.
  13. Meanwhile ... ... Bloenhardt, Jack, and Kate, transported a host of men and supplies to the island of "Chiquara." There agents of the MCTC established a trading post to serve as a focal point for harvesting bananas and breadfruit, and for continuing to develop the friendly relationship with the island's blind, tree-dwelling natives. It would take time to grow the new settlement of Chiquita, as Guilder had decided to name it, but the trading post was a good start. Regular trade runs to the island would help develop it into an important Eslandian foothold in the New Haven Sea. Bloenhardt, Jack, and Kate left the new hamlet behind as they departed in the Colonial Storm and the Nightwing for the as-yet-unexplored island #4. Jack smirked as he thought about how we would finally get away from Bloenhardt and return to island #6 to search for Itasca's treasure. But for now, he had to wait...
  14. The cavalry trainees are on the obstacle course, leading their charges over the low rail and practicing their cutlass skills by slicing pineapples. A small build for licensing a battalion of cavalry in Weelond.
  15. Well over 12 inches tall on my screen
  16. He looks kind of … crusty. And BIG!
  17. Thanks. I've wanted to do this for awhile. The angles were critical for the right look. And I used practically every log wall brick I have, so I'm afraid there's no more to come. Thanks! Thanks. And yes, we're into the New Haven Sea! As for the tiles, I thought they were necessary to add some texture. And thanks for noticing the landscaping; I'm working hard to not have yards of solid green in my builds. Thanks. Oddly, I found it hard to show off the angles in the pics. And I hadn't realized when I started, but I essentially built something that could be modular: four of these would fit together perfectly. But they'd barely fit on my kitchen table! It would be fun to assemble a whole fort for a show, though. Thanks, especially for noticing the tan tiles representing the earth fill. I was going for something very realistic. Getting everything to meet at the right height was tricky.
  18. It uses the classic Eslandian style, but still has some Salida Este character to it. Nicely done.
  19. I would have said something earlier, but my jaw was on the floor. Just stunning. I like to make Lego ships. Other people make ships out of Legos. What you've done here surpasses both. Incredible. We're not worthy!
  20. Very Classic Pirates '90s vibe to this one. I like it! And of course the train wheels are a fun touch.
  21. Lots of detail here, and nice job with going for a brick-built hull. A bit blocky but it still works. And the figurehead is perfect.
  22. I love the shape of the hull on this one, and the rake of the masts. The firing cannons are a nice touch. I think this might be one of my favorites of your ships.
  23. Thanks. Glad to help. Thanks. And the lady was a late addition. I realized the background needed some life. Thanks. I've been meaning to use those wall pieces for awhile. And the posing was very hit-or-miss. I put them through a lot of different poses and pulled the photos that worked best. Thank you! I'd had the scene in mind for awhile.
