Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Backgild replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
We likely won't get a detail like this in the movie, but I'm curious if anyone has a thought on the 'correct' troop type to be piloting the First Order Transporter? In ROTJ, the Lambda-class shuttle seems to be piloted by Imperial Officers or Technicians (I apologize if I have confused Imperial uniforms), so what troops do you have piloting your FO troop transports? Officers, FO crew, tie pilots? -
The Resistance helmet is a pretty impressive bit of engineering. TLG has managed to incorporate a molded trans visor and movable faceplate without making a helmet that looks as bulky as, say, Iron Man, for example. It may turn out to be similar in size to Iron Man's helmet, but the proportions look much better.

Thanks for sharing the link. The new footage all looked fantastic, but the stand out moment for me were the ties flying out of the sun.

This is a scene that I'm a big fan of, and this is a great rendition in Lego. Nicely done!

[MOC][WIP] Mini Force Awakens Resistance Transporter
Backgild replied to Backgild's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thank you all for your kind words, I really appreciate all of the comments. I'm sure I'll have some edits to make once we see the final version for the film, but that might not be until December at this point. I think we have seen most of the First Order ships from various sources, but they seem to be keeping the Resistance ships under wraps, with the obvious exception of the X-wing. I expect that we'll see a least one capital ship type in the movie, but I'm really curious how many different ship types that the Resistance will use. As a final note, I want to share this image that I put together while playing around in LDD... ABC ? ...surely they wouldn't use that naming convention, right? -
I love the looks of the leaked Resistance ship, and I couldn't wait until January to get my hands on it, so I decided to create a miniature scale version of the ship to accompany my mini X-Wing. I'm planning to wait until we get more information before ordering the elements to build this, so these images were rendered with BlueRender. This is my first experience with BlueRender, and I am very impressed with the results given the rendering time. The Force Awakens Resistance Transport I believe that the details at the front of the ship represent a loading ramp, so here is the ramp deployed. Obviously, there isn't room for a real interior, but I've attempted to leave a bit of a cavity to represent the troop compartment. The Force Awakens Resistance Transport The rear of the ship is almost a pure guess, but there is a rounded feature behind the cockpit that I've assumed is the engine. I've added a second identical engine pod on the opposite side for symmetry. The Force Awakens Resistance Transport If we use the sets as our scale reference, this is about twice as large as it should be relative to the X-Wing, but scale with Lego is always a bit misleading. Here is a quick shot of the vessel flanked by a four ship of X-Wings. Fighter Escort As always, I'd appreciate comments/criticism. I would especially welcome thoughts for improvement.

I really like the rebels symbol on the dk green Y-wing. That's a nice touch on a great looking model.

75140 is a must-buy for me, and is easily my favorite TFA set to date. This is the most unique Resistance ship design so far, and I'm a big fan of the B-Wing inspired design aesthetic. The mini-fig selection is also excellent. I need an Admiral Ackbar, Leia looks decent, and I love the Resistance troopers. I was very disappointed that the Resistance troopers in the First Order Transporter didn't have the helmets from the Hasbro figures; I'm glad that we're getting them with the new molding technique, and the movable face plate is a nice surprise.

If this isn't the right place to discuss this, I apologize, but I really want to see how the green helmet looks with a standard visor. It might be a good upgrade for my exo suit green astronauts. That is, if the helmet is green and not bright green, I'm guessing green, but I can't tell definitively from the pictures.

MOC: Mini-scale Imperial Landing Craft
Backgild replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm a big fan of mini-scale, and I'm impressed with the details that you've been able to replicate from the minifig scaled version. I'll concur with the others that have said that the tower is too big. For reference, the micro machines version might give you a better idea on the proportions, because I think the full size version is not quite long enough as well. For the thrusters, try these: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=43857&idColor=86#T=C&C=86 With a one stud connection, you can angle them, and I think they'll look about as accurate as you can get at this scale. -
This is fantastic work; I'm very impressed. Booster was always one of the most entertaining EU characters. Is that Talon Karrde and Mirax in the final shot?
-
Me: I know! I will express my frustration at this ridiculous situation by voting with my wallet and passing on the TFA Lego sets. TLG: You and I both know that is not going to happen.

Thanks for the clarification. Apparently I missed it during comic con, do you happen to have any links where I could get a better look? Was it in the behind the scenes video?

Images of the 3 3/4" figures have leaked, and as far as I know, this is the first glimpse of the character design of the resistance trooper. http://makingstarwars.net/2015/08/hd-image-of-all-12-the-force-awakens-single-carded-figures/

Thank you for the kind words. I am, in fact, working on a similarly scaled tie fighter. After a couple of abortive attempts, I think I finally have a design in LDD that I'm happy with, now I just need to find some time to put together a bricklink order.

Greetings! I've been impatient waiting for Episode 7 sets, so I decided to take a cut at a mini scale TFA X-wing as featured in the first teaser. The piece count for the X-Wing is 47 pieces, so it fits nicely with previously released polybag sets. I was pleased overall with how this turned out, but there are some obvious compromises that I had to make because of the scale. First and foremost, after spending quite a bit of time searching through LDD, I was unable to find any suitable pieces to represent the separating engines. Similarly, I was only able to represent one pair of engine exhaust ports. Also, the 1x1 round tile meant to represent the droid is much more prominent here than in the actual design, but I made one of these for both of my kids as well (with custom color schemes), and I thought they would enjoy the mini droid. Another color might have been more appropriate for the droid, but anything other than silver stood out too much for my taste. This is the first MOC that I've posted here, so comments and particularly thoughts for improvement are welcome. Update: Here are a couple more views, as requested. One better highlighting my attempted water spray effect, one two with wings closed. I apologize for the photo quality, I've been struggling quite a bit with lighting.

Rey's mask and goggles look a bit big to me as well; however, based on the images we've seen, people have speculated that her goggles use salvaged stormtrooper helmet lenses. If this is true, perhaps the lego designers matched her goggles to the lego stormtrooper helmet. I'd really like to see them side by side.

From the prominence in the trailer, I'd bet that the X-Wing is going to be the blue one. However, I do hope that Lego uses lbg rather than white. From the initial video with JJ Abrams, i think grey will be a better march.

Does anyone have a good estimate of the diameter, in studs, that the droid socket in the xwing is going to have to be to hold bb-8?
-
I've always been more of a rebel fan, but the new storm trooper design looks fantastic. The first battle pack to feature this design in a standard color scheme will be a license to print money for Lego, after they have gotten everyone to buy some larger sets just for the troops. Now I'm impatiently waiting for our first resistance minifig/set leak.

I'm surprised that there are more villain than hero sets, especially at the lower price points. It is not going to be easy to acquire even a majority of the heroes of the film with three key older characters, three key newer characters, and one incredibly popular new droid.

Does anyone have, or has seen, a picture of the Naboo pilot without his helmet, yet? I'd like to get a better look at the face print. Thanks!

Here is an interesting read that sheds some light on the marketing of rogue one. Apparently, because of the similarity in titles between rogue one and the new mission impossible movie, and the order in which they were registered with the mpaa, disney has agreed to refrain from marketing rogue one until mission impossible is released. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/mission-impossible-5-gets-a-783531

Fantastic battle pack! I love the new troop designs; I have been hoping to see these guys in minifig form since the season finale.
