  1. I have uploaded my large collection of photos from our 2012 layout to https://picasaweb.google.com/jfwfreo/2012show (I cant figure out how to deep link Picasa photos) Some of the highlights include: Our massive (but not yet erected) arch bridge (if we manage to get it erected, it will become the largest single span LEGO arch bridge ever made) Open cut mine site Massive Woodside gas drilling platform and LNG tanker Theme Park/Movie Studios All sorts of cars, trucks, buses, UTEs and other vehicles (including no less than 8 Transperth bus models of various sorts) Plenty of trains (including a Transperth A-series train and a Transperth B-series train) City Hospital with ambulances and medivac helicopter Council House (office building for Perth City Council) Nightclub Large space scene including alien internment camp Dinosaurs and cavemen (complete with Flintstones style car) Fairytale Mountain (how many different fairy-tales can you identify in the pictures?) Perth Central Railway station (in proper Minifig scale no less) Functional LEGO-brick QR Code that links to the Perth Adult Lego Society web page If you are in Perth and can get there, the show will be on until 4:30pm tomorrow and 4pm on Monday. Details are here http://www.bricksdownunder.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/PALS-Poster-2012.pdf
  2. If my calculations are correct, Helm's Deep at 25% off plus the $10 discount from the gift card deal makes it only $10 more than the US price and a fair bit cheaper than you could get from any overseas source (bricklink included) once you factor in shipping costs. Now I just have to hope that one of the 6 Perth MYER stores will sell me one on Tuesday :) Anyone seen the Mines of Moria or the Friends bedroom set with the drum kit in Oz yet?
  3. FYI, Toyworld in Claremont (as of today) has the Winter Post Office in stock (didn't see the price or any other new stock).
  4. Good to know if MYER happens to have another discount of some sort in the near future with a discount of at least 20% off RRP.
  5. With all the LOTR reports, why must WA miss out on LOTR :(
  6. I regret not getting more of the older Harry Potter stuff, Indiana Jones, the Green Grocer, a whole bunch of the older creator/designer sets and a bunch of City sets especially the police station with the light-up cop Minifig.
  7. Nothing new spotted at Target or K-Mart in Innaloo. MYER Perth CBD has new Star Wars (but that's already been mentioned AFAIK). Nothing new at either Target or David Jones in the CBD. Only LOTR spotted so far in the west was the one Helms Deep at the TRU in Innaloo (not paying RRP for the thing, going to wait until I can get it for at least 20% off) For once Australia seems to be getting the stock without waiting months after its already out elsewhere in the world. Only thing I have to decide now is which 2nd-half sets I actually want (and which ones I can afford)
  8. TRU Innaloo has 1 helms deep plus new SW. no other lotr that I can see.
  9. Too bad none of the WA stores have decided to stock the Helm's Deep set early :(
  10. Surprised its hitting retail so soon after it hit Shop @ Home (given most sets don't reach retail until 6-12 months after Shop @ Home debut) Also I have a funny feeling that those sets wont stay on the shelves for much longer (and that a notice will be sent to all Target stores to remove the product from the shelves until the sale :)
  11. I think the $169 price is the price it will be sold at in the big MYER catalog sale. If that's true, its a rip-off given that as that's more expensive than it would be if it was sold under the general 20% off. You would be stupid to buy anything at MYER that isn't at least 20% off RRP given how frequently they seem to be having sales these days.
  12. Ultimately MYER doesn't want to sell these sets now for several reasons: 1.Selling them now wont make them as much profit on each item as they will get during the big catalog sale. 2.If they sell them now, they may not have as many (or any at all) for the big catalog sale (bad in terms of getting people through the doors and potentially also bad if having no stock gets them in trouble with the ACCC somehow for having a catalog but no stock to back it up because its all been sold) It doesn't make business sense to have a big catalog sale and then sell all the stock before the sale even starts. There may also be (for some of the items) "street dates" put on the sale of some of the product by LEGO (or in the case of LOTR by Warner)
  13. Nothing new at all at MYER in Carousel. The flyer I saw said clearly that its a "one day only" sale. Also, assuming the catalog prices someone posted earlier are accurate, it looks like MYER has deliberately put the Helms Deep set in the catalog at $179 so they dont have to sell it at the lower price of 20% off (which would make it about 159) Its looking more and more like the retailers in this country dont actually WANT our LEGO business and WANT us to buy from overseas. (even K-Mart and Big W who spend massive amounts of advertising dollars across all forms of media talking about how their prices are so cheap are giving much less of a discount vs RRP than they used to)
  14. No LOTR on shelf Perth CBD. New Star Wars was out though.
  15. I will probably end up going into town and checking out both MYER and DJs (not just for LOTR but for anything of interest)
  16. I would like to see the new 2 x 14 plate in new colors and in more sets.
  17. Based on the reports that the few MYER stores (Geelong and that one in Adelaide) have put out the LOTR by mistake and it shouldn't be out on the shelves yet, I am not convinced its worth putting in the effort to look for LOTR tomorrow. (and spending the money it would take to go to the different MYER stores and look) Plus even if I found it, I dont particularly want to spend $400 or so of my own money given that I dont have any gaurantee that I would be able to get rid of the other 2 copies of the set. (only a statement from someone on a web forum I have never met that they are interested in buying one)
  18. The question is not whether your local MYER has LOTR in stock, the question is whether they have gone against the instructions from head-office that says "do not put on the floor before <date>" in thre way that the one Adelaide store has. My guess is that the Adelaide store made a mistake putting them out and may well take them off the shelf before the 3-for-2 tomorrow.
  19. If my math is correct, the price on Helms Deep if you buy 3 of em comes down to ~$133 which is almost as cheap as the US price of $129 Now I just need to find 2 other people in Perth interested in a Helms Deep (and a MYER store willing to actually sell me some at the 3-for-2 price) Should I just ring up all 6 MYER stores in Perth and ask if they have the set? Should I actually visit a store and ask directly? (Perth is the closest but I can get to any of the 6 easily enough) Or do I just have to hope that one of the 6 stores has decided to ignore any instructions from head office to keep the items in the back and will actually sell me some?
  20. Does anyone have an inventory of this set (e.g. photo/scan of the inventory pages at the back of the instructions?)
  21. This is a nice set with a nice selection of parts, only downside to me is the choice of Minifig torso which isn't the best fitting for a beach scene. (compared to other torsos they could have picked)
  22. The white part is a headlamp brick. The black part I dont know, probably a piece of black hose.
  23. What the Mime and Artist has is a beret, not a flat cap. I think LEGO would probably use a Baseball Hat (most pro golfers you see on TV wear a baseball hat, a visor (like a baseball hat with the top cut off) or no hat at all, not a flat cap or similar. I do agree that the Tam o' Shanter may not be the best option for a golf hat though.
  24. Any discount on the Hulk Helicarrier set?
  25. Anyone seen any good deals on the Friends house? (I want one for the tan bits so I can finish off my tan house MOC)
