Anyone seen any really good deals on the POTC London Escape or is 20% off the best you can get on that set? -

Would make sense if its a dark grey laptop (he is a computer programmer after all and the CMFs have a habit of including existing parts in new colors like the grey spanner in the mechanic) -

No not the coffee cup, the thing in his other hand that you can see behind the head of the rockers guitar. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 7 poll
jonwil replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
According to a (now dead) link to a UK toy store posted in the Series 7 thread, we have some names that seem to be official (unless the toy store made them up which seems unlikely given how they fit with previous names for CMFs) Aztec Warrior, Evil Knight, Galaxy Patrol, Jungle Boy, Viking Woman, Ocean King, Grandma Visitor, Rocker Girl, Tennis Ace, Computer Programmer, Bride, Swimming Champion, Daredevil, Bunny Suit Guy, Hippie and Bagpiper. In any case as a self-confessed computer geek with a computer science degree on the wall and a love for all things computers, I gotta go with the Computer Programmer as the best of all the series to date. The bagpiper comes second for me for S7 but the second best of all the series to date has to be the S6 Surgeon. -

Grand Emporium 10211 - Remaining Shelf Life?
jonwil replied to nesquik's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
The Fire Brigade is going to disappear first before the Grand Emporium does. Based on past experience, the Grand Emporium wont disappear until the next modular comes out in 2013. -

damn, why must this sale come at the time when I am out of money and have just spent $50 or so on Bricklink orders? :( Not that there is much at Target I actually want to buy (Friends house is probably the only thing I am interested in) -
I like the fire Minifig pack and wish more of the same was available (and that it was available at retail and didn't cost so much)

Hayabusa, the second LEGO® CUUSOO release
jonwil replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If the western town gets to 10k, only one of the buildings would be made, not all of them. Plus the TLG designers would work to refine the design and make it into something that could actually be sold. -
Thanks for all the great comments. The only reason I didn't make the elevator larger is that I didn't have the room to do it. And I wont be moving the elevator either because I dont have the room to do that either. As for the helipad, I intend to re-do that with a red H (smaller than the current yellow H) and white cross like in all the photos I see on Google.
-
Nice idea although why 16x32 baseplates instead of just a single 32x32?
-
yeah I know the elevator should be larger but I ran out of room in the lower floors to make it any bigger :) Just pretend that its actually large enough to take the patient from the helipad to the ER :)
-
The structure is now pretty much finished, now I need to do all the detailing and interior. Some more photos: Drug locker (on the ground floor near the elevator) http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital5.JPG http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital6.JPG Second floor overview http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital7.JPG CT scanner (portable x-ray machine will be present in the ER) http://www.cncmods.net/files/hopsital8.JPG Operating Room (with sink to scrub up before operations) http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital9.JPG Remainder of second floor http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital10.JPG The room next to the elevator is the office of the hospital administrator The 2 big areas are the main wards (some beds of which will be ICU beds) Top level http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital11.JPG Top floor interior http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital12.JPG The area at the bottom is the medical lab The small area is the medical stores The large area at the top is the plant room (which will feature the backup generator for the hospital and the hospital waste incinerator) Helipad http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital13.JPG Any comments (or suggestions of what equipment/detailing/etc should go into the various rooms) would be appreciated

MYER Perth CBD has friends & architecture. Space Needle @ 30 Burj Khalifa @ 40 Guggenhiem @ 60 No others that I saw. -
Thanks for the advice guys, I have ended up using long 1 x n bricks to hold up the roof along with occasional support columns where necessary (i.e. where there was a space between walls that is too large for a 1 x n support to work). These are then completly covered with tiles and the next level is just dropped on top. The roof/floor is done similar to what lego guy bri did with a single layer of large plates sitting on top of the tiles and then some plates underneath to hold the floor plates together so when I lift it off, it comes off as a single unit (the walls of the floor above also help to hold the roof/floor together) I just hope I have enough bricks to finish off the last part of the structure of my hospital (and that I can come up with designs for all the things going inside it that look good)

I hope the new Sydney Opera House (which isn't the best set in the known universe but is still cool for being the first Australian themed LEGO set) shows up at MYER, it should be much easier to get it there than from Shop @ Home or from anywhere it might be sold in or near the Opera House. Wouldn't mind picking up some of the others as well (such as the Rockefeller Center or the Empire State Building) if they show up locally and if the price is right -

which Architecture sets were at MYER in Adelaide? I didn't think they were going to come out at RRP? -
I dont know if its been suggested before but I would love to see a pack containing roadside objects. Specifically it would include traffic lights, signs (including maybe a bus stop sign), garbage bins (grey for garbage, green for recycling), fire hydrants and wooden benches. So all the things one needs for a street scape. Maybe also (in that set or in another one) have some street lights. Maybe make a payphone, post box and other things for this too...

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
jonwil replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Figures from mythology would be great and just like other LEGO themes take inspiration from what kids see in movies and cartoons, the Mythology stuff could take inspiration from the stuff seen in things like Disney Hercules or Class Of The Titans (to name 2 kid-friendly shows that feature Greek mythology) -
Here are some pictures of what I have built so far: http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital1.JPG http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital2.JPG http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital3.JPG http://www.cncmods.net/files/hospital4.JPG Looking at the overview image, the ambulance bay is off to one side with the ambulance entrance just visible at the bottom of the picture (you can just see the red window frames) The small item at the bottom is the elevator Next to the elevator is the trauma room and on the other side in the small space will be something I haven't yet decided on (maybe shelves full of medical gear?) The space next to the trauma room is where the normal ER beds will go. In the space near the main doors will be the waiting area where people wait to be seen and facing the main doors and in front of the large support column will be the admin/admit desk. On the second floor will be a large OR for my Series 6 surgeons to perform operations in, a radiology room (CT scanner/X-Ray/etc), main ward and doctors lounge. On the third floor (which will only cover part of the structure) there will be a plant room (backup generator etc) and a med lab for doing testing with a helipad taking up the rest of the second floor roof. I will be using white for the walls and windows with a bunch of tan to be used because I dont have enough white for the job. Roof/floor colors will be whatever color I have enough parts in (first floor roof is already build and is part black and part light bley). Wish the 8 x 16 and 16 x 16 plates were easier to obtain :( I do plan to build an ambulance and most likely a helicopter to go with this hospital. Anyone with feedback on this, please feel free to let me know.
-
Thanks for the advice guys, I have come up with a solution for the first floor roof (mostly there are enough support beams already to hold it up) and will have to fiddle a bit more (e.g. the 2 plates with bricks in between idea) for the roof of the second floor and the roof of the third floor. The hospital is 32 x 64 and the total size will be dictated by what parts I have enough of (currently using white for the walls but may have to switch to tan for parts of it if I run out of white walls or places to put trans-light-blue windows) If the 8 x 16, 16 x 16 and similar sized large pates were available in a nice color (dark bley, light bley, black, something like that) in a way that was easy to get more of without spending lots of money, I would use a whole pile of those. But they are rare and hard to come by unless you buy a bunch of big sets.

No way can I justify that set at that price. Not enough parts in it I need and certainly nothing I cant get elsewhere. Good news is this means that the recycle truck wont be a TRU exclusive (since TRU wouldn't have a second City exclusive so close to this one) Ended up with 3 more Surgeons for my hospital today thanks to David Jones (yes I paid RRP for them but hey, no-one I can actually get to with stock left is going to sell me what I want any cheaper :) Plus the place was as good as deserted so I could feel the bags with no questions from anyone :) -
Anyone got any tips on how to roof over large areas? My new hospital has some large open areas and I cant think how to roof them over in a way that won't collapse when I try to add a second floor to the structure.

Looks like the new Safari Building Set is a Toyworld exclusive. And 3 for $10 on Series 6 isn't that bad (although that assumes that you can get to one of the few Toyworld stores participating in the catalog AND that they have Series 6 in stock AND that they dont mind you looking for the specific ones you want with the feel-the-bag trick) If the WA stores that are catalog participants weren't so hard to get to (most of them are impossible for me to get to in fact), I would consider going there and trying to pick up some more Surgeons for my hospital :) Anyone got any suggestions of the best place for me to go to get some more Series 6?
