I'd be interested in one of these sets too. I am in Australia and willing to pay postage costs. -

Walked into TRU and saw 4 packs of series 7. . Bought them and they turned out to be 3 Aztec warriors and the space commando guy. . The Aztec warrior send to be the popular one of this series. Each packet had a metal tag stuck to it as a theft deterrent. Plenty of series 4 and 6 around as well. -

Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores
BrettBrick replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
The reason they post it in a bag, and most likely declare it as books. There is a world wide discount on postage of books. I found this out after I received a parcel that way from b&n. -
My 5YO Daughter has just built her first 2 Lego Friends sets. It is good in the instructions they let you know which pices are required for that step, so she didn't go to the next step until she had used all those bits. I sometimes need to help put on the 1x1 slope pieces but otherwise she does it her self. Stephanie is driving around with Jay from Ninjano so I guess the minidolls and minifigs get on alright in "real life".

My 5yo had a similar reaction although she does build and play with the city and kingdoms stuff. I have ordered the 14 sets for her from amazon.fr. She really was interested in the animal ones, especially the Vet set.

Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores
BrettBrick replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I have dealt with Australian customs previously and the AU$1000 is based on their own exchange rate. It is avaiable on the customs website. At the stage I was dealing with them the actual exchange rate with America was $0.95 the customs exchange rate was $0.86. So when I calculated my AU$1000 I was out with their calculation and was up for the 10% GST. Just note this and that is why you are being charged the fee. Amazon or any company can collect that fee and pay it on your behalf if they wish. You still wouldn't have to pay their countries VAT though. I have taken a look at Amazon.it to investigate this 'Deposito dei Costi di Importazione' (translation: 'Repository Import Costs'). I added 5 x 8043 and 5 x 8110 to my cart and went through the checkout (up to the last step before completing the order): Articles: EUR 1254.10 Shipping costs: EUR 20.00 VAT: EUR 0.00 Repository Import Costs: EUR 196.40 Order Total: EUR 1470.50 Then I slowly removed items until the 'Repository Import Costs' disappeared: At Articles + Shipping Costs totalling EUR 737.14, there was no 'Repository Import Costs'. At Articles + Shipping Costs totalling EUR 830.29, there was 'Repository Import Costs'. So somewhere between EUR 737.14 and 830.29, Amazon.it is adding the 'Repository Import Costs'. I did the same on the Amazon.fr site: At Articles + Delivery totalling EUR 709.82, there was no 'Import Fees Deposit'. At Atricles + Delivery totalling EUR 757.88, there was an 'Import Fees Deposit'. So somewhere between EUR 709.82 and 757.88, Amazon.fr is adding the 'Import Fees Deposit'. The 'Repository Import Costs'/'Import Fees Deposit' seem to be added at about the EUR 750 mark, and the fees vary depending on how much you have in your cart. Sorry greenpaw, it's not just Amazon.it adding this fee, Amazon.fr is adding it too. It looks like Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk (and probably other Amazon sites) may also have a similar 'Import Fees Deposit', and I would guess that all Amazon site are doing this now, but I haven't investigated any further yet. At the moment, we (in Australia) only have to pay the Australia duty, taxes and charges on consignments over AU$1000. The current exchange rate is AU$1000 = EUR 801.19. So if you order over EUR 800 worth of articles from Amazon, you would have to pay the Australian duty, taxes and charges upon import anyway. Normally you would have to pay this to Australian Customs before your package can be released, but you can also have a licensed Customs broker do this for you (link). I guess that Amazon is just acting as a licensed Customs broker so that your packaged gets released and on it's way to you, hopefully quicker than if you had to lodge the import declaration yourself. So this isn't a new fee at all, but it could be annoying waiting for any refunds that can take up to 60 days from the dispatch date to be processed. Hopefully Amazon get the cost of the fees close to the Australia duty, taxes and charges, so little refund will be required. If Amazon underestimates the fees, they state that they will pay the difference, so they won't ask you for any extra money at all. I actually don't see this as a bad thing. We would have to pay the fees anyway, and this way we don't get a surprise letter from Australian Customs asking for more money and holding our Lego for ransom before releasing it. I guess Amazon might be doing this because if a customer refuses to pay the fees to Customs, then the parcel might get returned to Amazon, and all the headache and paperwork that is involved in that (return shipping fees, refunds, restocking items, etc), and if the package gets damaged in transit (which we all know can happen) then they can't resell it. Interestingly, on the Amazon.it site the shipping stayed at a constant EUR 20.00, whereas on the Amazon.fr site, the delivery fees varied depending on the quantity of articles in my cart. PS. Sorry for the long post. Hopefully someone finds this information useful. I found the exchange rates for this week and they are around parity or $1.01. Which is much more reasonable than when I did it. Postage cost is also added to the total for the calculation. Try separating it into 2 orders. Postage may be doubled but you will escape the extra charges. -

This is DHL the German post arm not DHL the courier company. If you get to use DHL COurier rather than DHL Deutch POST you will be much better off. THis is the same thing as above, I have personally necver had anything in Australian customs more than 2 days and usually once it arrives in customs I have it in 2-4 days. Europe Post seems to be the slow end of the train. Australia post dont even make any money out of a parcel sent from overseas so it should actuall take longer on this side of the delivery. -

I preordered both Series 6 and 7 while they were on there and added some other sets they had in stock, selected 2-4 day shipping. The sets they had instock have already arrived in great condition in 4 days and the mimifigs will come 2-4 day post once they are released. I will only be charged when they are sent, and with the split shipping they do it worked out great, I know sometime they will send those minifigs out and hopefully there will be a few months between them to make paying easier. -

Try Shop USA they charge to the dollar value not the size of the package. Lego from my experience over size the box so this may well work out better, than other forwarders. -

Also, sorry to be picky, but it's 'Woolworths' and 'Wesfarmers'. Westfarmers owns Coles, Target, Kmart,Bunnings and heaps of other reatilers . Woolworths is a seperate company which runs BigW and Dick Smith and others, Woolworths are just about to enter the hardware market in Australia to go up against Westfarmers owned Bunnings. Woolworths is not westfarmers. -

I think you are disillusioned if you really think they are taking a $50 hit on each one sold. The cost price on that set is probably around the $30 mark. BigW will be getting a better buy price on the bilk lot they get from Lego wholesale then if that buy price may well be sweetened by a rebate program with the wholesaler. BigW are a big player in Wollworths market place, they won't be taking hits in $ on this scale. Wollworths are loving taking the battle to Westfarmers. That's how I see it from my experience working in retail. Also as a retailer you may be purchasing 50 of these sets from Lego wholesale, BigW would probably purchase say 2000 of each of the 3 sets that are all at the end of the life of that run. They will be getting a much sweeter deal. I worked out 2000 as I saw about 10 of each set at a couple of BigW stores. When a major retailer store has a 20% off they take some of the hit but rebates take care of some of it too. It is big businesses way of making money. -

I think the new train will be an October/November special. They are not going to sell many at $295. I think it will be similar to the yellow cargo train and go on special then have the extra 10% off for the first few days and be had for under or around $200. It is only $160 US. -

If only another retailer had it in stock. I think DJs might have it but they wouldn't sell it because I think it would be under their cost price. The Lego deathstar thing was moved to another thread about buying stuff fron another country I think. -

I just tried my local bigw and got the same story. The manager even called the store manager in SA but no luck. Have to keep an eye out though, but there was only one there anyway. -

I habe sent you a pm about Kingscastle, if you could reply that would be great. Thanks Btw, has anyone seen the new minifigure display cases anywhere else than at TRU? I bought some at BigW for $19.67 for the 16 holder. At TRU they were $29.95. -

The thing with the firestation is that it was/is available widely. Myer, DJs, TRU and independents. Petshop is set to be a DJs exclusive. As with Cafe corner, Grand Carousel and Grand Emporium they were all DJs exclusives and are all rare and gone up in value. So I don't think you will find it at clearance. You maybe lucky and score 25% off at somestage.
