  1. Well done it is certainly a scary looking structure!
  2. Wow that's an awesome design! Really looks the part and has a fun feel. Even the boxart looks fantastic!
  3. MEC Category A: The Watcher in the Water: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=101902&st=0#entry2043119
  4. Thanks for your support! I'm still figuring out this site, I have now updated the post to include the pictures themselves
  5. Hello everyone, this is my first topic, first original MOC published for this site and my first contest entry! This is my entry for the EB Middle Earth Contest. Like everyone here I love the Lord of the Rings and remain disappointed with the cancellation of the theme, and since then have begun to design and build my own official-style models to complete the range. So it seemed only natural that I would jump on board when a competition sprung up to celebrate doing exactly that! This is the scene when the watcher in the water attacks the fellowship as they enter Moria. "Gandalf the Grey leads the fellowship on their long journey across middle earth to destroy the One Ring of power. Their journey takes them to the Dwarf mines of Moria but first they must figure out how to open the doors of Durin to get inside, but watch out! There is something moving in the water, an ancient mysterious beast with many tentacles known only as The watcher in the Water." - includes four minifigures: Gandalf, Frodo, Legolas and Boromir - features the doors of Durin with glow-in-the-dark details - the watcher in the water has 8 posable arms, and closing jaws Approximately 400 pieces, excluding figures: The watchers eyes and teeth are from the Chima crocodile beast. Thanks for viewing!
  6. Found the new series in the Westfield shop in London yesterday :) No wizards or Huns left sadely, but I did manage to find a war goddess and prospector amongst the sea of swashbucklers, dino hunters, genies, pizza guys and lifeguards.
  7. Superb pictures! It's so good to finally get a thorough look at the sets in advance I really like the look of the new Orcs with the face paint, they look a lot more like the orcs from Azog's group than those in the original Warg set. However I still don't see why lego invested the budget for a new mould from the lake town set for such a comparatively unnecessary generic item... Perhaps it has some future use?
  8. That's not bad actually... probably the best looking helmet possible for a purist.
  9. I'm planning on experimenting with making a purist solution... Making thin, hinged, brick built sections of armour for the chest and back and attaching them around the cave troll's body using the short chains as straps over the shoulder and around the waist. The chains will naturally allow for the shape of the troll and can be kept close to the skin without being bulky/obtrusive. A mask/helmet will be harder to do however... Alternatively you could just wrap the troll up in lots of chains to look like it's wearing chainmail..
  10. Ok just setting things straight for the record: Saruman was in the Orthanc set, both Sarumans in wave 2 and GTW use the exact same hair peice: Saruman's just has a bit of paint added to the beard. The hair element used for that chess queen is the same as used for gandalf the grey and was introduced in 2001 for Albus Dumbledore. Back to disscussion: I agree that it was the black gate which covered the cost of the eagle, which is quite remarkable realy since that set also had the unique and guaranteed one-time-only helmet for the MOS. With the tall elvish arch also considered it makes perfect sence that all the sets of wave 2 including the D2C (except the pirate ship) were developed simultaneously since they share so many new elements.
  11. That is my personal favourite too for Sauron's tower, detailed but moderately sized and playable like an official set. The creator has an updated Ldd version on ideas here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/64574
  12. I'll have to have a good look at their selection then, thanks for showing! Hopefully now that lego's final range has been revealed they might comit to making some more to fill any gaps/ take advantage of the premature end. Agreed
  13. Nice haven't seen that one before :) their prices aren't too bad either Indeed, I would hope some subsidisation takes place then or something, but since I would be buying only one and the rest of the witch-king for instance would be quite easy to reproduce I would be willing to pay a bit more ;) I forgot to also add Gothmog's head and Dwarf helmets for the hobbit. Do you think they would also make direct copies of the Rohan helmet and Dwalin's beard etc for army building? Those exist already granted but they are not exactly easy to stock up on.
  14. I too prefer purist figures and would avoid customising (cutting/painting/) if I can. Eowyn swapped her hairpiece in the videogame so I'm happy doing the same with my custom. If a third party like those mentioned can make the missing parts I would hope they plan to make the following: Gondor helmet & shield Witch king helmet Sauron's helmet & shoulder pads Boromir's horn Moria orc helmet and shield Orcrist Alfred's hair/hat Orc helmets for Frodo and Sam Lurtz's bow Elf helmets etc All based off the video games as much as possible to keep in the visual cannon. It will all be pricy but what can we do :/
  15. Looks like thats it then :( I'll be supporting all ideas projects which I think are viable but in the mean time lego isn't going to get much money out of me for a while other than periodic pick-a-brick orders for making my own mocs of the missing locations I expect Smallgreenpealtd on ebay will get a spike in sales soon for his customs like the witch king http://bit.ly/1qo4g9u...
  16. This person has produced a LDD version of the design based on the videogame for an ideas project: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/70624 it looks more like an official lLEGO set IMHO
  17. I don't know where you live so this may not be useful, but the big Toy's R Us in Reading had several goblin king battles for a discounted price last time I was there couple of weeks ago, but they had been sat on the shelf for a while (i'm a regular visitor) so may still be there. They also had the barrel escape and several other sets from the second wave on discount too.
  18. Wow that's relay cool! Excellent job!
  19. I second the desire for the handheld slingshot, I still can't believe its not been done, I thought for Bart Simpson it would have been a guarantee! The kid from the lone ranger set had to make do with a printed tile, and Ori got a generic axe instead :/ Things I also want to see in the future: a proper teapot mold, hopefully a traditional design using the existing bucket handle. a large standing/hoping rabbit with a stud on it's back like the huskies/pig/goat etc so we can moc a sled for Radagast. A new ushanka hat with the earflaps down, could be used in winter village sets or historic Chinese/Russian settings. a small harp a new short chain with one of the ends being attached upright rather than to the side, therefore anything attached hanging down wont be lop-sided. a classic wooden violin or ukulele the friends hedgehog repainted to be more realistic round tiles with printed fossil ammonite decorations, would be used for a Mary Anning inspired figure (new hat also).
  20. Just about every single cheese slope I have had has developed a tiny hairline crack at the 'toe'. Even on sets that I only assembled once.
  21. Wow these are all great! Every single one oozing with character, you have an excellent imagination!
  22. I hope he is proved wrong :(
  23. The horses have been in the pick-a-brick selection online for a while, so this may just be a bit of stock rotation of sorts or maybe an invitation to get more people to buy more of the tubs in store, especially girls perhaps. But I agree it is quite bizarre for them to appear in the in-store tubs where lego could potentially make a loss on them compared to online for how many you can fit into a tub :/ To be sure if this is the result of canceled sets I would look out for saddles. Saddles exist alongside every horse in a set when they are not pulling a cart/carriage, and they are not available online. If saddles appear in stores we can be sure that we are seeing stock salvaged from canceled historic themes.
  24. I agree any newcomers would loose against the victor of this round, so best to let it be as is For the next game I would like to target the Hobbit theme, but that would be best played after the complete content of the sets of the final wave is reveled. I'm all for further revamps of the LOTR tournament in the meanwhile, it passes the time in this period of no news.
  25. Why are we having the final round all of a sudden? What about the towers of Cirith Ungol, or the great Barad dur? They were both mentioned in the nominations. On topic I have to chose Minas Tirith since it could include potentially anything and everything from the battle of Pelennor fields, so it wins for me by default. A 400+ price tag seems a bit extreme however, that’s even more than the new Death Star. Helms deep was ¼ of that price and was quite large and well done I think. Minas Tirith also has the same benefit of having a definitive front and back to it, meaning the rear face where it would attach to the mountain can be left open, that would save on bricks and increase play value without looking incomplete like Orthanc does. Depending on the addition of accessories (Grond, siege towers, catapults, army figs, beasts etc) I think a very economically designed model could be achieved at a more moderate £250/300 price tag (at least that’s what my wallet hopes!).
