Tax has nothing to do with LEGO online charging 10-25% more to Australian customers than US customers for the same set. What I meant is that I would make the prices globally equitable - pick a currency base and charge the same for everyone, everywhere that makes an online purchase. Other online international retailers do this. If LEGO is primarily a toy, for the enjoyment of children the world over, why don't children the world over (or their parents) pay the same for it? As an AFOL, I can find workarounds like Bricklink, which enable me to get parts at a reasonable price - but this saddens me for Bricklink stores in my own country - there are some good ones, with a large amount of stock and good service, that have to charge more to make ends meet. Bricklink shows the result of inequitable prices for parts by country - if the price of LEGO was globally equitable, a Bricklink store from any country would be able to price parts around about the same as any other and make equal profit. Re the adult lines, the reasons for there not being one do seem valid to me, especially if AFOLs are more of a minority than I thought.

It would be nice to see more support for genuine creativity than IPs and nostalgia and on ideas - but it seems people don't want that. When you think about it, people are supporting the stuff that is the most unlikely to be made into a set. And I'm a hypocrite - because I supported 2 Jaws projects and post nostalgic projects.

I would work out exactly how much of the product is brought by AFOLs relative to the core group of 6-10 (I think that is it). If, as I suspect, AFOLs are responsible for a large chunk of the purchases, then I would tailor more products towards that demographic, whilst still keeping the products for the core demographic. There could be AFOL themes (Game of Thrones for instance) that are designed to be more complicated builds, with more parts, at a higher price point. If I'm wrong and the AFOL component of purchases is smaller than I expect, then I guess there is no need to change anything, except, and I don't care if it is good business or not - I wouldn't pander to global economics. I would make sure my product is sold at the same relative price in every country. I wouldn't be able to sleep straight at night with the huge price discrepancies that exist between counties now.

Seriously - who would pay that much for a crazy looking cat thing? What is that - 14 pieces of plastic. It's not gold. Don't be angry about it, merman - laugh at it. LEGO is an amazing toy - probably the best toy ever invented - and a great tool for creative expression in it's fans, children and AFOLs alike. If I paid $125 for that zany cat, I wouldn't want to take it out of it's seal - and you gotta ask yourself, what is the point of that??

I believe so - I would have to actually build it to be certain. With the doors open the roof of the forward hold is only 1 plate lower. In the image, the rover is positioned slightly higher than it would sit with real bricks, as I had to attach it by a 2x2 brick to get it in place. The back end of the rover would only lift up when you raise the ramp.

There's one on flickr Lind - meant to show how the rover fits in the hold. I modeled the rover in the hold, with one side hidden, to get the tightest fit I could (almost sounds rude :D).

This has an excellent vibe of fun and tomfoolery - perfectly in line with the PotC films.

I agree - but you have to ask yourself where does this greed begin and end? Is it more greedy to want an item like this, produce it, or steal it to sell it? I don't go for the minifig collection thing, personally, so I guess I can look from the outside a bit. To me a minifig is a bunch of parts, that can be used in LEGO creation. If collector's didn't pay good $ for collectible items, then thieves couldn't sell them. I'm not justifying the theft, or the deliberate creation of low volume high value items tailored for collection - just noting that the greed is part of all the mindsets involved.

Specific questions re my entry: Is it within the size limits? The tiniest bit of the nose may overhang. If it is too much I will rotate the head to 90 degrees so there is no possible overhang, or remodel. Are the printed eye pieces OK or not? if they are not OK, I will find an alternative and resubmit Cheers

Lind Whisperer - I have taken your suggestion into account and tried to meet somewhere in the middle. I have removed the green radar dish and some of the curves on the tracking station/base, whilst spinning the window pieces 180 degrees. This lowers the piece count with visual improvement, I think. I'm trying to avoid anything looking too detailed because I worry it will distract from the classic vibe.

Thanks for the comments Some of the design choices weren't that conscious and were more to do with working within the boundaries I set myself for this project. Every part had to be from a set released in the last 2-3 years - hence the curved windscreen. I put it in place, liked it and redesigned the whole back end around it I consider the cockpit a kind of design limitation - I wanted to do something very retro but it's the only large trans yellow windscreen currently available.

Thank you for the long and in depth reply Aanchir, Re the molds, it was something I considered but didn't think would be as difficult to work around. Some legal build techniques have more delicate connections than illegal techniques. If something is designed for display and not play, then brick stress would be less over a given period of time, surely? The Taj Mahal had no play-ability or swoosh-abilty and it sold well enough. I guess I want to know why model type builds can't be packaged outside of architectural designs? It wouldn't have bothered me if the Exo-suit couldn't be played with, or swooshed, or was delicate - I like to put builds on display and look at them :D The Brick Show review says it's not really play-able anyway. Of course, I do like builds to have functional elements, designed around minfigs, otherwise why model out of LEGO? I like to know they can work but I don't have to make them work, if that make's sense. What I would really love from ideas sets are packaged versions of some of the fantastic and detailed MOCs that the community produces, with the detail in tact. All those intricately positioned small parts in a box, with instructions, ready for AFOLs around the world to recreate them, kind of thing.

HI all, I started a new LEGO ideas project - a reboot of my favorite toy. Support here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/72716 Current flickr album is here https://www.flickr.c...57645467031607/ I am open to any suggestions for updating this project to be the best Galaxy Explorer reboot possible, bearing in mind that I wish to keep the build simple and the part count as low as possible. I enjoyed the heck out of this set when I was 8 - I would like a reboot to include that age group upwards. Cheers.

Very nice - the little details are great. Is the monkey eyeing off the one ring, ready to stab the others?

Really dig the way a mini is positioned like it's falling. And really, really like the 2 tones of tan to show wet sand (stored in back of head for own MOCs)

[MOC] At Paths End and Colonial Outpost - Skara Kikos
ummester replied to Takkata's topic in Pirate MOCs
The At Path's End entrance is really nice. This work is more like LEGO art than LEGO building to me because not all parts are connected and so on - it's something I haven't got my head around fully yet. There is no denying the beauty of some of the shots, however. -
Very nice build of the Pearl.

yea, which is kind of my point - UCS as a designation is ultimately pointless and the collection of UCS only is ultimately impossible, because the line is not clearly defined. I agree, collect what you want. Better still, build what you want - that is the true beauty of LEGO - you get to build what you want, make things how you want. Collection misses the point a bit, IMO. The UCS Falcon in an unopened box is like the dark side of the force, where as 10 random Chima pieces on a table are the path to the light side I can see that TLG does encourage collection with denotations like UCS and golden minifigs and the like - but I recon it kind of works against the power of it's own product. I did get pulled out of my dark ages by collecting Star Wars stuff though, so I do understand the hook.

So wait a minute, the big Falcon isn't actually UCS and the new Sandcrawler is? Which boxes actually had 'Ultimate Collector Series' written on them - not what sets have been termed UCS by fans, not the Ultimate Collectors Millennium Falcon - which boxes were actually denoted like Yoda above? Wouldn't they be the only Ultimate Collector Series and all the others just be Ultimate Collector one offs? After a quick bit of research it appears the only sets that are unarguably UCS are: 7181, 7191, 7194, 10026 & 10030. The new Sandcrawler is Ultimate Star Wars Collector's Series, which is something entirely new. 10019 (which I thought was the most sought after old UCS set) isn't even UCS going by the box designation.
