XL Motor Issue
Lasse D replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have succesfully had a motor replaced because it was running slow. I suppose you can get the same because of the increased power load. They will ask for the defective motor to be returned, but they will deliver box and postage for this to be an easy task. -
I have been working on a new mechanism for the cement truck. It is now able to dispense both GBC balls, minifig heads, 1x1 round bricks and 1x1 round plates. I still have to improve the sturdiness of the rear end and build a cover for the drum, but it's slowly getting there. The interior is nice and simple: I have also gone to Legoland simply to buy a set for the letters of the front:

I love the visuals of the show and your model is instantly recognizable. Very nicely done!

This topic can quickly start going deep. So let's go! I would quit the hobby the day that my loneliness really gets to me. I often take on comissions and if these are large projects, it will take much of my spare time. This has always been a problem when trying to maintain a steady relationship and whenever it has caused problems in the past I have always chosen to Monroe way of "If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve my best", meaning that you should be able to tolerate that I might not invite you out as much when I'm working up to a deadline. It was the same that happened when I was writing papers for my Ph.D. (and with the same result, I might ad!) I have a hand full of broken relationships because I couldn't be there for others when doing all-nighters for conferences on the other side of the planet. The hobby has, however, never been a problem when it comes to friendships - even close ones. Luckily I can happily say that the LEGO hobby isn't a problem because you are "playing with toys for kids", but rather the time constraints when using it in a semi-professional context.

Thanks guys! Don't worry about winning the race. This is a cement truck! I always build 12 wide in this thread. 14 Wide is more suited for the wheel size, but requires a lot of additional bricks. Thanks, but this picture is actually from July! I have been working on a lightweight and functional dispenser system for almost half a year now! So it's pretty much like the current Technic Quad bike? There is a tiny issue with the 32013+2736 connection which might get pulled out if the weight is too high. Have you looked into springs and how they fit into this design? I did a similar suspension setup for the second last race truck, but it didn't have springs:

Having driven the new A-class with the smallest petrol engine (lowest output configuration) I can say that it's perfectly fine as FWD given the low output. It was quite a nice little car, but since I had to wait 3 months for an automatic+aircon, it stimply couldn't compete with the similarly priced Lexus CT. On the road those two cars are quite equal. The A-class is slightly less firm in the suspension, but had a tiny bit more body roll as well. Interior was equal for size and both cars had a couple of quirks (the screen looks cheap in the A-class and the radio equally so in the Lex) but the parts that you touch while driving are excellently made. Long story short. Congrats with the new A-class :)

Nice work on the instructions. It looks like you have put a lot of time into them. One thing that jumps at me in your design is the use of gears for connecting to the servo motor. How often does it happen that the teeth grind or gear snaps? I see no reason for not using more durable parts like the 4-legged gears that LEGO has been using for years.

Please tell me you have built a MOC of your office.

Awesome. Now we know it is officially a LEGO piece. The Friends sets, however, do not come with regular minifig heads, so we have yet to see the set this bunch of pieces appear in.

If you go to Reddit right now, you can see that the knitted hat is about to come out in a purple-ish color instead of dark bluish gray and black: Any idea from which set?
-
Modern LEGO sets are simply made from highly specialized pieces where you can only really build the thing they show on the box. It has strayed so far from the lEGO I knew from my childhood. LEGO should get its act together and bring back Jack Stone.

Aw. That's too bad. I was completely fooled by the picture of the parts call out, and I even checked another source as well to be sure ;(

Holy Moly! Is that 40 x 1x1 transparent tiles I'm spotting!? We have been asking for that piece for ages. It's right up there with trans jumpers on my wanted list. I have to get this set for those parts.

Zooming in on a step in MLCAD
Lasse D replied to bats's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I am considering adding a meta-element to the MLCad format that my program reads in order to instruct LDView in generating pictures (Similar to LPub, but open source once mature). I have the following suggestion: 0 SHOWUPDATEDREGION [factor] Where [factor] is optional. 1 means to show a region exactly cropped so you can see new parts, larger factor increases how much of the model you see. Defaults to 1.3 if not stated. This meta tag appears right before a STEP, ROTSTEP or ROTSTEP END element. This way you don't force the renderer to show a large picture when only a smaller region is updated with new bricks in an instruction step. I realize there might be several steps in a row where one wants to do such a zoom. This is why I'm also considering the meta tags: 0 SHOWUPDATEDREGION [factor] BEGIN and 0 SHOWUPDATEDREGION END to indicate that any step between such a pair should be modified as previously described. This writeup is probably on the nerdy side. Just tell me if details should be explained. -
