I have to make two new LDraw parts, the Plate, Modified 2 x 2 x 2/3 with 2 Studs on Side which is new for the UCS B-Wing and not in LDraw yet, and the curved slope 1 x 2 with 1 x 1 cutout which I make by cutting the 1 x 4 curved slope with 1 x 2 cutout as seen in the picture of the broken Scania on the top in black. Modifying this piece is my entry into the non-purist society. I'm hoping it will become an official part soon, though. Edit: Good news. I found that another person has made the 2 x 2 plate, so I only have to work on the 1 x 2 curved slope.

It has been a while since my last update. I have been busy constructing building instructions for an even sturdier Scania. Here is the first part of the frame: It is the same style as you can see on the damaged model above. The servo motor goes directly onto the steering rack, but since the liftarm on the motor is only of length 2, while the steering arms have length 3, the motor can turn to its extreme positions without damagind the parts, and you get the bonus of Ackerman steering geometry! I have to construct a couple of new parts for LDraw before I can complate the instructions since I'm using some really new parts (and some parts which LEGO still has to invent, but I'm sure they will... eventually)

MAN TGX 6x4 (WIP)
Lasse D replied to olaf9198's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you don't do pictures because they are too big, then you should consider resizing them. Adding pictures to Brickshelf which are larger than 800x600 puts an unnecessary load on their free service and results in slow loading times, which makes people click away from pictures of your creations prematurely. This is a shame because you usually biuld some great models. -
LDraw models of new PF motors
Lasse D replied to Philo's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks, but it's much better now that I use your models: -
And I'm on my way with the new Magnum. I'm using Griddy to get the proportions just right for the front. The frame is based on the orange Scania in the back, but with an XL motor for a smoother operation. In the fron I'm using the frame from the latest FAW Jiefang, but with ackerman steering geometry and minimal steering wheel travel.

LDraw models of new PF motors
Lasse D replied to Philo's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks a lot Philo. Now I no longer have to do this: -
I have been gone for a while because of LEGO Fan Weekend in Skærbæk where I brought four motorized trucks which had received significant structural reinforcements so that children could play with them as in the video above. This is how the trucks looked before the event: And here are the remains after letting the children play with them for a couple of days: I will not bring Model Team trucks for this kind of event again.

Interesting discussion. Some people don't think it is a MOC anymore when parts become damaged (Because damaging parts would not make it "my own creation"...) Now consider this: This is a GBC module made from 100% official LEGO parts bought through retail with 100% legal building techniques. Now this is the same MOC after a week of LEGO World exhibition. The balls have drilled small indents in the bricks: How do you guys feel about this? And how about my latest MOC?: At first you might think it's fine, but looks closely. This is one of those models where I am pretty sure that in a few years, no one would think "illegal parts" were used.

Lego GBC module: Shift
Lasse D replied to sqiddster's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's actually quite amazing! Have you let it run in a loop for 3 to 4 hours so that you can leave it at an event and just make the audience stop in awe? -
Scania P270 Containertruck
Lasse D replied to dfs473's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great work on making the Scania look real while working in purely Technic in that scale. Thanks for the video showing the functionality and thank you even more for not putting music in your video. -
Yes. You must set up the precision: Settings > General > Change > Step/Grid/Snap. Here you can set the 3 grid precisions. I have the following: Default coarse: 10 8 10 90 Medium: 8 10 8 45 (allows me to build "normally" when placing stuff sideways) Fine: 1 1 1 1 (for precision placement) I propose the following for people building primarily with liftarms: Coarse: 10 10 10 90 Medium: 5 5 5 45 Fine: 1 1 1 1

ZIL 130
Lasse D replied to trucker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
"To hell with the Scanias and other crap!" While I do not agree with what you say, I applaud the way you say it It's nice to see a 1:13 scale model actually being able to move. You often see frames of these things collapse under their own weight! You model has so much torque that it rips whatever is on tow apart! -
Lego GBC Model 1 : Marble Pump
Lasse D replied to LegoGBC's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So the rotating L-piece pushes the stack up, allowing a new ball to get in and that's it? My attempts at this design never yielded reliability, so you must clearly have found just the right angles, gaps and parts. -
Lego GBC Model 1 : Marble Pump
Lasse D replied to LegoGBC's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is a very simple (and my experience says that the simpler the better), but I can't from the video see how the pump makes room for new balls to get in. Do you have some good closeups of how a ball gets into the system of this marvelous little machine? -
[Software] LDD Manager
Lasse D replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have just used LDD Manager to make the parts list on our 2012 WRO website so I just want to thank Super Duper Kalle for making this super duper tool available for us. It works perfectly with my out-of-the-box Windows 7 box. -
Massive LDraw parts update
Lasse D replied to Philo's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
There has just been a new parts update (see the front page), but there are no PF L and servo motors :( and the fixes I have made to elements can not become official because the host of the e-mail account I used back then has gone bankrupt... -
Kenworth Aerodyne Truck
Lasse D replied to skyliner's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Awesome! Itøs very recognizable because of the top greenhouser detailing and I also like the stripe detailing on the sides. It is a very nice effect to break up the large black planes. -
Thanks. Everything but the sides is Technic with the sides being simple tiles: And I have just uploaded the instructions. Link as image: The idea with this new container design is to make it light and robust (we spend way too much time reassembling containers at LEGO World this year!) Update I have built a couple of containers to see how well they work and to try out some different graphics: (I usually use logos from fictional companies - especially megacorps )

You are welcome. And as it says on the generator-pages; please tell me if there are features missing. Thanks. I actually just received a new set of the new motors which will result in two new trucks in the near future. Update! And now for an update on the new trailer for the Scania which makes uncoupling automatic as well. This is the mechanism: - Yellow: Direct input from all 4 wheels. The gearing makes the mechanism use minimal power. - Green: This clicker is independent from the blue system which is a huge improvement on the similar mechanism of the OctanTrailer, seen here. The old mechanism was not very reliable because the clicker was heavy and moved the push-beam horizontally. - Blue: This mechanism pushes the legs down when reversing, but is light enough for the rubber band to pull up while going forward. - Red: The legs are held either down or up by the rubber band.

Just build a lot and you will become just as good Thanks. Have you considered my version of the 5580 which fits together with all the trailers I make? UPDATE I have added Bricklink XML partslists to all the instructions now. You can even configure the lists by yourself (email notification, comments, new or old elements and so on). http://c-mt.dk/instructions/ I also finished a new container trailer prototype and will post an update with it soon.
