  1. I got into Technic from a young age and it opened my mind to mechanisms. Although I never really took it any further by working on my own (real life) cars or doing an engineering degree, the fundamental understanding and interest in how stuff works stood me in good stead.
  2. Man, I' beginning to get a sense of what a feat of engineering this is. Mind-blowing! Super write up Blakbird, makes it all (fairly) easy to understand.
  3. The pick-up looks unfinished to me, kinda thrown together. There's been a lot better looking trucks by MOCers on this 'ere forum. Also, what's with the negative camber at the rear? The loader looks good, but I echo the sentiments about the steering and jerky acceleration. Can't see me buying either to be honest. I'll wait and see what the bulldozer is like.
  4. Moving onto different things. I've been looking at some LPEs lately. I understand that they have to be powered by a compressor. With that in mind, if I were to build a 1 or 2 cylinder LPE, would one mini-compressor be enough to power it? The only pneumatic parts I have are from 8868.
  5. Yeah, me too. For some reason this thread has escaped my notice recently. I love these non-vehicular Technic contraptions.
  6. Such a shame that you can't get the GBC balls on here! I even checked to see if they had those magenta ones that come in the Friends soccer set, but nay. :-(
  7. Never ceases to amaze me how people can come up with these things. I struggle just getting direct drive to an axle! Good stuff, lookin' forward to more progress!
  8. That BV steering is genius Efferman! Especially in such a small space. This is a great little thread, shows just how many different ways there are to skin a cat.
  9. I get that too. 8868 has been built, re-built and on display for months at a time and whilst the white bricks are still white, the hoses have the same stretching around the joins. I've also noticed that the tyres on 8865 have mis-shaped a bit. They seem to be coming away from the rim and in some areas have actually stuck to the rim where some of the "stuff" that's in the rubber has seeped out over time. These tyres are of course a different construction entirely to the newer ones.
  10. Hey DHC6 - I love that chassis. Neat solution to being pendular and having steering. I may nick that idea for my next MOC! OP - Check out Sariel's BV-a-like. It has a hinge between cabs that is a bit different to what's currently been shown and provides plenty of degrees of movement and articulation. Steers via gears as opposed to LAs. http://sariel.pl/201...gglunds-bv-206/ You can see it working clearly in the video. Edit: Here's another example of articulated steering which is different again:
  11. I like it. Nice compact build with good functions. I particularly like the speed the back tips at - in some models it can be painfully slow, but this is just right. Drives quick enough too. Good stuff.
  12. Open them and build and play with them!!!! I've never understood keeping LEGO MISB to be honest. If you are not interested in LEGO and are only buying as an investment (which I am sure there are lots of people doing) then that's one thing, but if you are a LEGO fan, then it seems criminal to me to have sets sat in boxes not used. Everything is about money these days, LEGO is a toy and is meant to bring fun, why does this have to be sullied with thoughts of making money (this is a rhetorical question and I already know the answer). My tuppence anyway. Enjoy whatever you do!
  13. I think you'll need a differential between the tracks for it to work with wheeled steering, otherwise the tracks will just push the steered wheels in a straight line - especially in a vehicle this light and powerful.
  14. I like that crane alot!
  15. I recently built a small vehicle with the only link between axle and chassis being the small TT. Even in that small lightweight model there was considerable flexing. I concluded that anything bigger (and especially a 4x4 with performance at its heart) would need the large TT.
  16. I used to convert 8865 and also the Model Team truck that I had as a kid. Don't recall any that were RHD to start with, and 8868 doesn't even have a steering wheel!
  17. I've got this little pull back set. Man, I like the looks of those alternatives.
  18. I think it looks expensive! Hahaha!
  19. I've taken the PF out of this model and gone back to manual control but with a difference. I swapped the gears for the small liftarm/crank thing and it works a lot better. I'm still not over-enamoured with the performance, but it's the best it's going to get.
  20. The standard of your work is mind boggling! And I'm in awe of your drawers full of bricks!
  21. YES!!!!!! I was really hoping that someone would do Chitty!!!
  22. Nice! I like the way you've attached the L motors direct to a turntable. Makes things a whole lot more simple. Be good to see the performance.
  23. I just hope it doesn't get to the stage where all we're doing is assembling special pieces and the resemblance to LEGO is lost. It'll then turn into something between Airfix and a plastic mecano set, or some such thing. Studless is already a step in this direction (yeah I know, it's good for some things, I'm not arguing that). You're right, some of that System stuff is barely LEGO - whole car chassis in one piece... I go to a kids group with my nippers and some of the Mums know that I'm into LEGO. They complain that all the sets these days are far too complex and have too many small parts. They just want bricks (I know you can buy them at S@H, but you never see them in shops) so that their kids can build houses, bridges and stuff like that.
  24. This is mental! Can't wait for test flight #1!
