It really depends on whether you ever plan to build the set again. If so, then store them by set. If you don't know or if the chance you'll rebuild the sets is low, I'd sort them by parts, keeping in mind that it should be easy to rebuild a set from a well-sorted collection with a copy of the instructions.

I don't really want to encourage the bumping of long-dead topics, but since this was asked and it is my review, you are correct. I believe the straight B1 arms weren't introduced until the summer 2007 wave, in the MTT, while this set was a winter 2007 release.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Brickdoctor replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think they were in the Ryloth trilogy from the CW show. -
To start off the New Year, the MOCs from December 2011 to be showcased throughout January 2012 are: Republic Cruiser, the only physical build, by UCS master Anio; Arena Beasts, an excellent display of prowess in brick-built LDD animals by filospinato; LDD Khetanna, a seven-thousand-piece model, by one of EB's best LDD builders, Gunner; and LDD 2011 Star Wars Advent Calendar, by myself. Larger versions of the banners can be seen on the blog's flickr.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Brickdoctor replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks like it. These MINIs look pretty good. Anakin's pod looks a lot better than the last one, and they've done a good job of making the MTT smaller to fit in with other MINIs. -
Yeah, that's the best one I've seen yet.

Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share
Brickdoctor replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: I decided that I'm really just waiting around for trivial details, and it's not helping the speed of the quest. So, here's what you haven't done as far as the catapult is concerned: You need to specify how the arm will be moved. (counterweight or spring, and you need to tell me where the materials are going to come from) You need to devise something for the arm to rotate around, be it just a log or a metal bar. You need to decide what the six hollow rocks will be filled with. (or alternative ammunition if you aren't going to use the rocks, which, yes, are now at the catapult mount) -
It does look a bit big. Maybe you should try building it without that topmost layer of curved bricks.

It looks fine. With the lighting this good, it gives the photos a more natural look than editing out the background. (plus, the best way when editing out white backgrounds to make the photo realistic is to have realistic shadows, which is impossible on pure black - reflections are nice on black, though)

I apologize for how slowly Quest 17 has been proceeding, guys. With the holidays coming to an end, I should be able to get things moving more quickly, though.

I think those bumps protrude too much and are too skinny. I was thinking more along the lines of 2-wide inverted dishes.

What will you remember from 2011 with Lego?
Brickdoctor replied to eliminator's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There're a ton of things I'll remember from EB. I became an RA Teacher, was asked to be a Rebel Blogger, hosted my first Heroica quest, remade the Star Wars Advent Calendar, and played a true mafia game in which I didn't play like a MegaBlocky n00b. As far as LEGO in general, I bought my first train, the Emerald Night. The snow play area at LEGOLAND California was also pretty cool. -
Nice improvement. Have you considered dong the circular portion of the turret in SNOT instead to capture the little bumps on the sides of it?
-
Looks good, from what I can tell, but I really can't see much with all the effects you've applied to the pictures. Do you have any pictures without them?
-
Plus the proportions of the TIE x1 are way off.

Thanks for this great tutorial. I've played around with a few maps in Photoshop, but they don't turn out as good as yours do. About the text, in PS, you can type out and rasterize the text and then apply the various Transform options (Distort, Warp, Puppet Distort, etc.) to it to make it whatever shape you want. The only thing is that then you lose edit-ability of the text. Does GIMP have a similar option?

How does one celebrate the New Year in the context of Back to the Future? The arrival of what most would call a 'new' year doesn't have much point when one owns a time machine. You've gotta thing fourth-dimensionally Marty Johnny!

Happy New Year! May the Force be with you.

Ewok Treehouse or: homedisplaying the cute furry things
Brickdoctor replied to hohesC's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Nicely done. I would have thought that the surface of SNOT would turn out too uniformly smooth for a wooden platform made by Ewoks, but you've made it work. The trans-green cheese is a clever technique, though I'm not sure if it isn't too ...solid. Overall, though, this looks great, and I hope you finish the tree. -
[MOC] CHIBI Scout Trooper and Speeder Bike
Brickdoctor replied to M<0><0<DSWIM's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This has got to be my favorite of all your Chibi builds. The Scouts helmet is just amazing. One would think that it would be nigh impossible to capture all the curves, but you've translated them into simple LEGO shapes perfectly. The 74-Z does look a little blocky, but with this style of figure, it fits in just right. -
Nice work. The turret section looks too tall, but other than that, it's a great first Star Wars MOC.

Community Build: SW Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi
Brickdoctor replied to ACPin's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Oh, right, almost forgot; mine's here. -
I've had this built for a week, now, but, following my Star Wars Community Build tradition, I held off posting until the very last day. Overall, I'm quite happy with it, considering that I built it in one day, the same way the rest of my Advent Calendar was constructed. (the LXF, by the way, was included at the end of that topic) I did end up using that 5-wide-core Lowell Sphere again, which I know isn't the greatest, but it was a quick solution that matched the other two TIEs I've built in LDD. The wings are a little gappy, and a lot simpler than I had thought they would be, but I think they work well. The connection between the pylons and the wings seems wrong, somehow, to me. I think the half of the pylon touching the cockpit ball is too thick, but I couldn't devise a better, finned solution using legal LDD connections. The above is my favorite part of the model. I've had a prototype of that section built for a couple months, now, and I finally get to use it. I was surprised that it actually worked in LDD. The MOC was finished in December 25th, and, again, you can download the LXF for it, the TIE x1, the TIE/sa, and the rest of my remade Advent Calendar models in this topic. C&C welcome; thanks for looking!

Speaking as someone who originally posted only one photo on EB and linked to flickr or MOCpages, I much prefer having all the photos in the EB thread. I want people to see my work - I don't think it's fair to make the people giving me the courtesy of viewing my MOCs click through a link if they want to see more just so that I can save a couple minutes of time by not embedding more pictures. (on that note, links leading away from EB on the boards open the target in a new window, which is annoying [even if all you have to do is hold down the Command or Control key to open it in a new tab instead]) EB is my primary interest as far as LEGO websites are concerned, anyways, so it's not as if I want people to click on links to increase the traffic on another website.
