Review: 9488 Elite clone & Commando Droid BP
Brickdoctor replied to mutley777's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for the review, mutley. Personally, I don't find much to like for an OT fan such as myself in this set. The Dark Red limits the uses of the ARC, and I'd have not much use for the other figures. -

Where's a Cloak of the Elven Spy when you need one? I don't see any harm in going around to the other side. -
Great to see you back at LEGO Star Wars photography, smokebelch! I think I'm going to end up waiting at least a month to get the new Sandtroopers from TLG directly. Your photo isn't helping.

Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share

QM Note:Depending on how complicated you make it, I will determine a number of heroes that needs to operate the catapult. -
To me, it doesn't seem so much that it's loading much faster as that it never seems to load any slower. I have noticed that the site is just a little bit quicker, but the big difference is that it's never loaded any slower than that for me since the upgrade.

There's so much to love here. The shaping looks simple, but it's evidently actually quite complicated and perfectly done. The detailing and coloring are spot-on, as Fallen mentioned. The painted parts don't really bother me, though I am surprised that someone with as strict standards as yourself would be doing it.

This is lovely, Walt. The color scheme is perfect, with the Death Star-style walls and floor and a splash of color. The build itself looks simple, but you've used some nice techniques hidden in there. The photography's excellent, too.

[MOC] No wait, I thought you were blind?!?!

Nice work. The shaping of the pit is excellent, and the tentacles are perfectly positioned and look great, despite being sand green. -
[LDD MOCs] Brickdoctor's 2011 Star Wars Advent Calendar

Thanks, Fallen. I don't remember why I didn't make that inverted dish black or transparent. I did have to skimp a bit on the interior, though. As with the rest of the advent models, this was a one-day build and I didn't want to spend much time on the interior. -

I'm really not sure yet. I will be doing a big picture together and sharing publicly on flickr, I think. To finish it all off: My LDD TIE Collection, including the TIE/in from my forthcoming proper post for the Jedi Community Build. LXFs: TIE Advanced x1 TIE/sa Bomber TIE/in Interceptor Merry Christmas, everyone! And yes, Fallenangel, I realize the above picture makes evident the problems with the proportions of the TIE x1. -

QM Note:I'm not sure if I should be giving any more hints, but I feel the Quest will become tedious if I have to keep telling you that what you're trying is too complicated, so I'm going to try to nudge you in the right direction. The sling is a relatively new development in catapult construction as far as you are concerned, and it is not at all necessary. Catapults with bowls at the ends of their arms have worked well for centuries. Slings are mostly for power and distance in throwing large projectiles. They enabled trebuchets to launch shots weighing three hundred pounds in high, long arcs. Medieval mangonels, however, had bowls on the ends of their arms and could fire multiple smaller projectiles faster and on a line. This is not to say that the medieval mangonel is simple enough for you to build right now, but I just wanted to say that if spread shot is what you're looking for, that can be as simple as a bucket on the end filled with pebbles and small stones. -

You rig the tripwire with the Fire Bombs. Fortunately, this is a task simple enough that no one else is exhausted. I don't think any of you really are looking forward to my Miniland Santa Yoda (I'm not, to be honest), and I don't have anything better to finish the calendar, today, so just look for something bigger to finish this off tomorrow. -

Day 23: It's a tree! I debated about what to build today. In the end, I decided to go with this sort of all-purpose tree. I use these for Castle and Heroica MOCs, but the basic design, based on the MMV tree, can be used for a variety of purposes. (I was thinking this would work well in a MINI-scale Endro vignette or diorama) -

QM Note:I was trying to avoid an infinite supply of wood, but, for simplicity's sake, okay. William and Xander, you assemble two A-frames of wood about three studs high. (which, you realize, is a reasonable height for a simple catapult that you need to lift to the top of a tower) Xander, you also find a taller tree and fell it for use as the long beam. -

You realize that if you want Xander to bring you the pieces of wood, you will need to specify where to find those pieces. You also realize that logs and beams are not interchangeable. -

You take one of the pieces of rope and prepare it for use as a tripwire. You just need the two heroes holding the Fire Bombs to support this plan. QM Note:Of course.
