Thanks for the review! This was brought out in the time that the SW sets were constructed with mostly standard bricks (give or take a few minifigs and printed canppy pieces...). After a few years so many specialized pieces entered the theme and so many re-designed sets came out that I completely lost interest in Star Wars Lego. I always liked this set, unlike most ships it could be displayed very beautifully on that lovely included stand with the weird tube, and I left this set in one piece for a long time. I remember how hard it was to get this set back in the days: for some reason this Tie and the Imperial Shuttle were nowhere to be found in the Netherlands, although they did appear in that years catalog. I only saw it once in a shop and bought it right away. Haha, I have every single set in this picture!

Hello again! This must be the first MOC I post in this forum. Being more of a town & trains person myself I decided to build a town in medieval times for a change and started building before the Medieval Marketvillage was announced. I will post the entire town later on, but for now I bring you the Townhall. I intended to post this in the community castle build competition, but when going over the rules again I discovered that such an entry must be fitted on a plate no bigger then 16x16... This building covers twice that span . Well, maybe I'll make something legible some other time. So in the MOC-part it goes and not in the contest! The building we see here is a townhall, I was heavily inspired by the townhall of the German pictoresk city of Michelstadt. That roofpieces set from last year may seem to contain a lot of roofpieces, but I used them all and even some more on this building... The building from the side, showing most of the half-timberedness and some technique I saw a lot on brickshelf where you can squeeze some plates and tiles between two bricks to create an angled look, And here is a shot of the insides: I made just half the interior, the other half should have contained a staircase but I never got round to making that, I had an entire town to build and decided I could use the bricks needed for the stairs elsewhere... And finally the inspirational picture. I visited the town myself some years ago and instantly liked this building with the mysteriously lacking first floor. That's it for now, more pictures can be found in the Brickshelf Gallery of this building, containing also two teaser pictures of the entire town. Questions and comments are welcome!

Exclusive Train 10194 Emerald Night (Exclusive 2009)
simonwillems replied to der seb's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That motor looks identical to the one used in the current trainsets. I think it actually is the same motor, there's no point in replacing it because it is compatible with powerfunctions the way it is now. The connection bit to attach a cable is also in the old style and not the new powerfunctions-system. The new remote looks interesting, it seems we get two turning knobs... I wonder what those two orange buttons are for though.- 559 replies

If you are in doubt whether to buy this letters-set or the grand Medieval Marketvillage, may I recommend the last mentioned?

Nice set, but I'd like to see an inventory of it before I pay 20 euros for it. There is no inventory yet on Bricklink and the 'more views' section of shop at home is not working for this set, so considering buying it will have to wait a little....

Very nice! I like the curved hood with the wing pieces, it gives the car that hard to achieve rounded look. Does the car steer? I am not sure about the doors though, shouldn't they open the other way round?

Power Functions Fork Lift
simonwillems replied to Aliencat's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great work! I have been working on a forklift myself lately and spend an entire day on the extending-boom system without using the new studless beams. In the end it worked but was not able to lift even the smallest classic town car.... So I guess know how hard it is to make a functioning forklift that also looks good. Yours has all that. A very clever idea: using the actuator deeply hidden within the model! Nice video, I like the reactions of the cat to all the different functions.... -
The Community Castle Build Contest
simonwillems replied to Sir Dillon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
OK, thanks! I have completed my small medieval walled town and will isolate one of the buildings to enter it in this contest, it is going to be a half timbered model of the townhall in the German city of Michelstadt. I will post the entry somewhere next week if I find the time to take the pictures... Nice to see the increase on prices to win! -
Value of this mechinism.
simonwillems replied to user's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Could it be the mechanism used in this car? If so then it conists of roughly eight pieces, those pieces can be found (in the cheapest bricklink stores) in a price range between $0,015 to $0,02 so the whole thing will be about 16 cents in total Selling it will probably not be the most lucrative business you have ever encountered -
I like this a lot! It brings back memories from 1994: after months of saving up I finally managed to get the amount of money together that was needed for the purchase of set 6348 Surveillance Squad, I played with it for hours, improving the design, setting it up and rolling it around. This model of yours seems the ultimate 6348, with all the storage space (I love the doors on the inside compartment), the sliding-out workspaces and even a sink and coffee machine!

No wonder you never saw it as you probably don't own some of the exciting sets it came in, like this one for instance.....

Redux of Technic set 8830
simonwillems replied to Aliencat's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How very nice! This was one of my first technic sets as well and I see that the incredible tight corners one could take with the original model are also possible with your modification. It moves well with the added power functions. About the purpose of this thing: I don't know, here in Holland it was called "6 wheeled Explorator", but the rallysign puzzled me. -
I found the picture again that inspired me to build the waterthrower, here it is: All riot police vehicles are blue here in the Netherlands, a darker blue than the standard Lego blue, but who cares?

A quick search learns me that the element number of the forklift spring is bb217. This element number is het same for both the small and the big forklift piece. Bricklink states that the smaller forklift uses a smaller spring (with 35 "turns" instead of the larger one with 60 "turns"). There is only one seller of the spring, and he sells a reproduction of the bigger spring.

Thanks for the nice comments! Thanks! Well, Lego actually designed a riot police unit once: as part of a Dutch soccer series this Stadium Security set was released. Too bad I never got around to buying it... The shield design is quite a simple one, I just bought a lot of these and an equal amount of these, sticking them together leaves you with a usable shield. I understand your worries: as a kid I lived and played very peaceful but now that I am studying Criminology at university I realise that the world is, in a way, not as cheerful as we would want it to be.... While building layouts and scenes like this I like to depict reality. This is what a riot looks like and the waterthrower (the reason why I made this scene was to display that car) is based on a real life machine. Just my thoughts... Well... I have never been to Boston, but that must be a cosy and happy place to be!

It all started on a quiet friday evening in july: The police was called to a street where some people were carrying stolen streetsigns around. Two officers in a patrolcar were dispatched to the scene. After a friendly little chat with the two men things got pretty rough because none of the two persons would hand in the streetsigns they took earlier. The little argument turned into an incident when the policemen decided to arrest the thiefs on the spot. The struggle with one of them alerted some people from the surroundings who had a score to settle with the council, because the mayor had only just decided that their houses had to make way for a new freeway. Things got heated up and the two threatened police officers called for asistance, held the spot for a few minutes but then had to run for their lives after the angry mob had grown substantially. And now, half an hour later, one passing car is set ablaze, another one is being pushed over to it's side and disassembly has begun on the initial patrolcar. The backup finally has arrived: four patrolcars, a van, a commandvehicle, a waterthrower, the dog squad, and about two dozen policemen (four of them on horseback) are now ready to take back the streets while stones are raining down on them. "O.K. men, line up: we'll shows this people who's boss!" Newscrews came out of nowhere, not only on the ground the action is covered live, but also from up in the sky.... "Look out for the man in the green coat with yellow cap! Allright, it seems we scared him!" "Where did that pirateflag came from?" "I don't know but let's wave it to make our point!" "Burn baby, burn!" "Raise your shields men, and remember: no mercy!" "That's one less troublemaker, hand me the cuffs, please..." Just 23 minutes later things were back to normal, all protestors got transported to the policestation where trial awaits them, the stones got picked up, the fire was put out and the refuse services came in to clear the mess... More pictures (of the blue waterthrower) in this Brickshelf folder I hope you like it! Comments are welcome and so are any questions.

Nice topic! When I make a rockformation I use the 'between-love-and-hate rockpieces' Lego provides us with, using this piece and this one, commonly called Little Ugly Rock Piece (LURP) and Big Ugly Rock Piece (BURP). Even on Bricklink.... Using this pieces and a lot of big and small plant leaves and vines like this whip/vine piece, you get a pretty rough looking formation and not as smooth as when building with slopes. Some examples can be seen here and here. Behind the rockpieces and underneath the elevated layout you can build anything you like to support your layout above, I mostly use technic beams, but also large pieces which I do not use so much like batteryboxes, big monorailsupports and the like are coming in very handy, example here. Good luck!

Exclusive Train 10194 Emerald Night (Exclusive 2009)
simonwillems replied to der seb's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think he means that there is room for four minifigs to be seated on an actual seat, because there are four seats. Not that bad: the 4558 Metroliner also had only four seats in the main carriage and with some modification it is always possible to increase the number of seats.- 559 replies

Opening sealed antique sets - wonderful or painful ?
simonwillems replied to drdavewatford's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, this is quite an interesting topic. In the process of collecting Lego I have bougt some really cheap MISB sets off my favourite online Dutch marketplace from sellers that were unaware of the collector's values of things. So I have about 10-15 MISB sets ranging from 1988 - 1997. While I love building old sets I try to find used copies of them (with box and instructions) to later sell the MISB ones. This idea can be a solution, only thing is: the sealed sets I have are so rare (like the 1788 pirate set for example) that there are no replacement sets to be found in the state I like them to be.... So that leaves me with boxes to look at instead of build sets.... I recently succeeded in buying a used copy of set 2140 and put the sealed one on the market, but it was not really easy to sell it for the price I desired so that in the end I traded it with somebody for a 10193 Medieval Market Village, which I thought to be a good trade. But the best thing still, is to open the sets you have and do the things with it Lego intended us all to do with bricks. -

So all theories about this set being a fake can definately be throw overboard! I'll buy this, 89.99 euros is not that bad for a price! Thanks Tony, it seems that TLC has taken a good look at your fantastic trains in the proces of development.- 559 replies

The Community Castle Build Contest
simonwillems replied to Sir Dillon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This looks like a fun contest! I am currently in the middle of constructing something like a walled city and will maybe post one of the already finished buildings in this contest. Only problem: it is slightly higher then 25 studs high, there is a tiny tower sticking out a bit higher.... Is this height rule very strict? In Medieval times many buidlings were higher then the surrounding castle walls, like in this picture of my hometown Zutphen in the Netherlands The church is much higher than the walls in the foreground and it has been like this since the medieval times.
