  1. While browsing Brickshelf I came across this masterpiece and though not really into castle I was quite stunned by the ingenuity of this builder See for yourself: (Picture is a link to the gallery of the builder: Aliencat)
  2. I drooled over this set in the catalog back in 1994... So big, the biggest Legoset upto that date... Only a year ago I managed to find it second hand on the internet for 50 euro's including the instructions but with some yellowing on most of the white pieces. The functions are really cool to watch, the only thing that slightly dissapointed me was the fact that the steering is quite stiff to operate and so is driving the car around in first gear. But that all comes down to the hugeness of the vehicle: I don't think I own a bigger set (in dimensions that is). Everything is cleverly worked out and there are some pieces that only appear in this set, like the white part with the gearshifter in the middle and the grey half opened axles holding the wheels in place. I noticed the fact that Captain Green Hair has also placed a comment on this set: we talked about this car (remember Mr. Hair?) and you said that you could build this entire machine in a time of under two hours.... Now there's some bragging that needs serious evidence one day...! Thanks for this lovely review Bernd, I think I will vote outstanding!
  3. Well, this is one set I would like to have one day. It is a shame that it was never released (at least as far as I know, Bricklink does not list it). I once found the picture on Peeron and liked the set. It is from 1996 and captures a really nice holiday atmosphere
  4. That dumptruck is Love at first sight I tell you....! Thanks Paul for bringing us these pictures.
  5. I look at it this way: those databases won't be around forever (remember Brickshelf's closing down announcement some time ago, although cancelled). In a few hundred years people can still read this book... But main reason for buying: It looks good on the shelf and is nice to have!
  6. Same here, same here.... But otherwise the brick had been at large through the entire box damaging not only itself but also the other contents... I am happy with my copy (1753) and have already registered it on the site. Thanks for both reviews!
  7. Wow, amazing! I know how you feel, I wanted to make such an engine all my life too and I also succeeded recently... Does it go around the curved tracks as well? It looks like it because the tender seems to be made with a swivel undercarriage. Nothing beats the old German colorscheme if you'd ask me! Very inventive work on the large-antenna-with-red-minifigheads combination
  8. That looks like a great house! It all looks very smooth with those tiles and very much like your tv (the program, although a bit boring, as Holodoc pointed out is a nice find indeed!) There actually is a watering can, a Fabuland one, I have one in my collection, they're a bit big buit still very nice. (Picture is link)
  9. After a three weeks vacation one needs some time to try to keep up with things, I missed the update of this beautiful ship. This is really going into the right direction, I could not really visualise in my head the way you wanted to make the hull upside down with plates and tiles, but now that I see it I love it! I expect the need of many, many Bricklink orders.... I'll be following this project. By the way: congratulations with moderator-hood mr. Green Hair! You seemed to have careened your way through the ranks rapidly.
  10. Well, it is a sad day for AFOL's worldwide.... I would like to see those new things in action too, but I will wait for someone else to purchase them. In the mean time it's off to Bricklink!
  11. I recently bought the 8293 power functions pack and I am really pleased with it! Those new lights are powerful LED's and really light the way in front of the tracked vehicle I have built them into. Also they do not affect the speed of the motors when used together.
  12. I already ordered mine on the publisher's website, it seems there is a limit and they will not publish more then 3333 copies. Furthermore I just received an e-mail today that the releasedate is the 11th of august, maybe there are still some copies left, if you want them check out the website of the publisher here: The publisher's website Good luck!
  13. This is by far my favourite Outback series set! I loved the fact that you can bend the bridge in different directions so that the suspension of the car really worked to keep the car levelled, like you placed it in your last picture. I had lots of fun with this when it came out eleven years ago in 1997, the bridge scene could also be used in the Adventurers serie of 1998. Classic, highest rating, buy it if you don't already have it!
  14. I had a delightful vacation: travelled through Europe by train and managed to find some good old Lego, here we go: King Kahuka Forbidden Cove And the best: Rocky River Retreat! All in a little shop in Northern France that I visited before, three years ago, nothing had changed there... In the Legostore in Hamburg I bought the (not available in the Netherlands) Indiana Jones set with the little tent and also two packages of this: It is a keychain with a rope that can hold letters, I bought it of course for the round bricks with letters. They have a dual print and are just as useful as the 1x1 tiles that came in a different letterpack-and-keyring combination. The Legostore in Hamburg was well sorted: they had the 10187 new Volkswagen Beetle (€129.99), the entire new Star Wars collection and the Indiana Jones 7628 Airplane (shop at home exclusive!) for €64.99
  15. That is really cool, I love the Pacman-part! One small nitpick though, nothing important, but it is Millennium Falcon...
  16. I had something similar some time ago, though it had nothing to do with the motor itself but with the wire leading from the net-current to the transformer, the worn wire got a loose contact from time to time bringing my railwaybusiness to a non-scheduled stop... But I assume you checked everything else to make sure the problem lies with the engine and not with anything else?
  17. Welcome to the forums Steve! You will soon find you are not alone in loving Pirates.... Enjoy your time here.
  18. Thanks for writing this review. I do have the catalog myself (shipping to The Netherlands was only 5 euros, I bought one for a friend so we shared the costs making it 2,50) and I am very pleased with it. I spent all day yesterday filing my instructionbooklets in the same order as the catalog displays them, so now I can look up my instructuctions according to it. I already ordered the limited edition, with hardcover and gadgets, which is more expensive but also more exclusive. Not yet released though. I can easily recommend this to any Lego enthousiast! Note: Despite the lovely review I honestly believe you are violating the copyright of the publisher by putting photo's of the catalog on the internet, one of the first pages prohibits it clearly... Just my two cents...
  19. Well, I seem to be chainlinks, ancient ones in a packet of 25... Ah well, could have been Exoforce/worse!
  20. Thanks for the review! Poor little minifig: This guy has to haul the heavy machine all the way from the depot onto the littered streets to locate some trash, but when he has finally found some and switches on the machine everything will be launched towards his pants.... No wonder he's looking sad.... A nice set though, and inventive too! When it comes to streetsweepers, I remember getting the first of it's kind on my birthday in 1991.
  21. Haha, great vig I love that washing machine, simple but very effective
  22. It is an actual Lego part, used in this Technic set, among others. It is a principle based on little tubes transporting a red light. You will need one of these, eight of these, a 9 volt battery box+battery and a 9v cable. It is a nice system, I never MOC-ed with it but it may be suitable for the job intended.
  23. Wow, this looks great as a start! You should meet our member Captain Green Hair, he is working on something similar if I am not mistaken. I visited the Victory last year in Portsmouth, what a beauty she is! Good luck with this monsterproject!
  24. I too am the owner of a copy of this book. It's nice to read, displays various techniques (how to build gigantic bricks and make a small aircraft with it for instance), it has a complete parts list (complete= on the release date!) and it shows some great train rolling stock suggestions. I was not completely blown away by this book, but being a collector it is worthy putting on the shelf. Consider it a nice gadget to go along with this years Collectors catalog. The pictures in it are all in black and white, by the way. Buy it! On a side note: I am writing this from my memory because even after an extensive search of my room I have not been able to locate the book.... Does that imply something?
  25. Some days ago I bought set 6542 off my favourite Dutch digital marketplace, complete with instructions in like new condition (extraordinary for a set from 1991!) for just 75 euros. Luckily I had found an unused stickersheet of this set a year earlier (bought it for three euros on the same digital marketplace) so I now have the set with all stickers! It is standing on my desk right now and by looking at it I truely believe it is one of the best Legosets ever released....
