Black Friday 2009 discussion thread
simonwillems replied to Darth Legolas's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
According to the internet Black Friday will be the 27th of november. Not being an American I was unaware of the date but it must be speaking for itself when living in USA... When things go as planned I will be in Tucson Arizona the 27th of november, half way through my USA-train-trip-tour. Only thing: there is no Legostore there so I am going for the regular shops (if any). -
I own the 10040 and I can confirm that the European version had non-shooting cannons. The Flintlock rifles also had a different mould, with a different pattern in the handle from the original guns in the late eighties. Otherwise I believe them to be identical, even the shades of grey had not been changed in those days. By the way, the title has the wrong number in it, unless you are preparing to discuss the difference between this set and this one Something I could go on about all night: For instance take a look at the little grey car, that's a difference, or the trans yellow windows, that's a diffe...

Yes, Lego did something like that with there mid- and late nineties boxes, especially with the larger system and Technic ones. But to be sure I would have to see the picture.... -
The chrome parts indeed hurt my wallet... There is a total of 40 chrome parts in the model and especially these antennas were quite expensive in decent condition

With the arrival of my LDD parts I finished the process of buying THIS (image clickable) It took some time, and it cost 119 euros but I am happy with the result!

The power functions lights are indeed unsuitable for lighting up interiors. An other option is to buy some of the old 9v lights introduced in the mid eighties, they are not that expensive on Bricklink (link here) the only expensive side of it is the many cables you need to make the whole system function. The advantage of these lights is that they are very good for lighting up buildings, I tried it myself here and was very pleased with the result. But the best and cheapest option would be to run off to the nearest store selling christmas tree lights and buy a few of those....

New, Interesting Way to Do your Scenery on the R.R.
simonwillems replied to Brickstarrunner's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Isn't the best thing about Lego that after building you can take everything apart and make something else using the exact same pieces? Try that with paper mache... By the way, Brickstarrunner, you made a spelling mistake in your signature. Nothing too bad, but it really stands out because of the oversizedness of the sig. -
You didn't step on anything, the city however did step on something when they decided to pull these yellow trams off the rails and replace them with the big ugly squeaking blue and white monstrosities currently serving Amsterdam....

I just bought 5 right hand switchpoints for the 9v train in old grey for only 40 euros. I thought that was quite a good deal!

Chevrolet Impala 1959
simonwillems replied to simonwillems's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the replies! I never thought of adding interior to the sides of the doors as well, but it seems like a nice idea. It'll be quite strange taking something apart that was constructed so long ago that I completely forgot how the inside looks and what parts I used.... I'll give it a try soon! -

What an incredible system, thanks for sharing! -
About ten years ago I built a lot of 12-wide american classic cars, most of them based on the Ultimate Legobook, like this '57 chevy. Most of these MOC's are long gone, but I held on to two of them, the ones I was most pleased with. One being the above mentioned Chevrolet Bel Air and the second one being my red Chevrolet Impala. Ten years ago (wow, some EB-members hadn't even been born back then!) I made the coupe version that looked like this: Only recently I decided to redo it a bit, taking of the roof and redo the interior, the result is this cabrio version: Even signs of a leopard skin in the back seats.... Such a pity that Lego never released a 1x3 tile with safari print I'm not sure if I like the print on the back seats though. For comparision a picture of a real Impala Tell me what you think. Questions and comments are most welcome!

"Firefox was unable to locate Whatever" Yeah, whatever...

Thanks! I did not yet try to fit a minifig inside, I am afraid it doesn't fit though, the roof will probably be too low...

Very nice! The sleek lines resemble a real yacht perfectly. It must have been hard to achieve them like this. The rolled up sails are a nice touch as well.

Beautiful tram! It really captures the spirit of the original one. I like the front, fronts are always the hardest parts when constructing trams and yours works excellent! I know that you do not live in Amsterdam. If you did, like me, you would know that these trams are only to be found in a museum and that they are not in use anymore! The old blue and white trams are a completely different model from the yellow ones that went out out of service in 2004 with the introduction of the ugly Combino's.

Hello my fellow Eurobrickers, For my next project I am planning to make a 1950's town in US-style, so with the buildings, the style and the cars of that time periode. (I am still in need of some photo's/pictures of street scenes from that time period, so if anyone have some please post them here). Inspired by the work of Misterzumbi I made this car, but quickly realised that my collection is not sufficiently extensive to make 20-30 cars like this. Which I think is a good number of automobiles for an entire town. I have started making cars in 4 wide now. So I am left with just this six-wide one as a sort of study object. During the build I gained quite some respect for Misterzumbi: cars like these are not easy to make! I like the result though. In the back ground a fifties diner is visible, the first building in the town (next to the buildings of Town Plan I already had). There is no particular model I based this car on, though it looks slightly like a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air The underside, I had quote some trouble fitting the rear axle so the wheels wouldn't hit the sides of the mudguards. Brickshelf Gallery with more pictures Questions, comments and fifties pictures of American streets welcome!

Helped needed for university project

Being in university myself I know how hard it is to get sufficient response on a survey... Done and good luck! -
Beautiful! The song is always in my playlist and while I am typing this it is playing softly in my room. Thank you
-
It's out of stock on the website... Is it also available in V&D stores? By the way, they also have the 8294 excavator for 39 euros, and in stock.
-
Very nice! And good choice of colour as well. The ship almost looks like its great grandfather, the mighty Black Seas Barracuda

I love the experiment, good luck with your skyscraping firehouses! Imagine having to slide down that indefinate firepole and the speed the poor firefighters would gain before smashing to pieces downstairs like a waterballoon upon impact.... Good thing you didn't add the firepole all the way through!

A really beautiful car! Designing old, round and curvy looking cars from the thirties, fourties and fifities is always tricky using Lego but you did an outstanding job. What did you use to make those instructions?
-
I recently bought the set and although I like the car it might look better with 1x8 tiles on the side, covering the backwheels, instead of the regular 1x6. Cars like this from the fifities often had half-hidden rear wheels. But I like your colour variations!
