I'm way into that. I'm surprised that they haven't tried that with Plastic Man already, given they really only have to do new prints and could do the same thing with Mr. Incredible in the Marvel line. Even Imaginext has made the Javelin, although they've actually done a bunch of different DC characters and not just Batman and sometimes Superman (frankly, I'd like to see them take a few pages from their book and make Gorilla Grodd and Black Manta) Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Duplo sets are all based on like the Dark Knight Returns and Death in the Family stuff? Just making all the sets really dark and traumatizing?

Y'know what? I know that everyone's talking about X-Men, but I've really got to say, when it comes to DC they should be taking notes from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I know a lot of people don't like the show, I was previously in that camp and I can see where you're coming from, but you cannot deny that they managed to use a crap-ton of obscure and less popular characters into colorful, original, and relatively entertaining stories. LEGO could just as easily throw together their usual kid-friendly stories, but instead of just using Batman and a "repeat offender" villain, you make Batman, another less popular character, and another less popular villain. Instead of thinking "Batman is the most popular character in the DC Universe, let's only sell Batman.", think "Batman is the most popular character in the DC Universe, let's use Batman as an anchor to make other characters more popular." Marvel seems to be doing it, too, though they're mostly starting in the TV shows.

I've been trying to get some X-Men books, but it's really hard to make sure you're getting a good story. The best bet I've found is Grant Morrison's New X-Men, but the Omnibus is almost $100. I think that box might just be the box for that Blackbird set, and the "Sentinel" is just a filler until the official designs are out. I'm fairly certain that once DC's cinematic universe takes off, we'll be getting more sets focusing on other characters (and not just movie-based sets). I hope that we'll get that Hall of Justice or Watchtower set despite the movies. That would be cool, though I've never heard anything about that. I assume you mean after the LEGO Movie series? I oughta punch you for just saying that lol

No, I'm a pretty big comic geek and an aspiring X-Fan but I'd never heard of him. Dude, calm down, I'm sure we're getting regular ones later in the year too. Odds are Barbara's going to be back in the chair before too long. Even then, can you blame them for making DUPLO sets? They target a younger audience and plant the DC seed early, so they can bloom into beautiful comic book dorks and buy the legit sets later. They're not going to take away from the regular side of sets. And if you're complaining about not getting a LEGO Oracle, she's not incredibly hard to purist custom, so long as you can build a decent wheelchair. It's all cool.

That's a super cool Negative Man, though! He seems to be the easiest of the main 4 to build. You'd have to dig deep to find bronze robot parts.

I don't know about Mr. Sinister or Apocalypse (Mr. Sinister even I had to Google, but Apocalypse will increase in popularity after the next-next X-Men movie), but Sabretooth and Mystique are both pretty popular, but neither can fly. I'm really hoping your wrong! I want Gambit so bad, and I hope characters like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel don't wind up as SDCC exclusives. Honestly, I'm beginning to wish that they didn't do those exclusives whatsoever.

It's a perfect head, I'll have to pick up the set. I'd like to make a Metallo that looks kinda cyborg-y like in the animated series, or something big and bulky like in Justice League Doom. Someone PLEASE build the Doom Patrol! http://drh.img.digitalriver.com/DRHM/Storefront/Site/matty/pb/images/2010_News/P4014_Doom.jpg These guys are practically perfect for purist minifigures. I made a Negative Man (in this design) out of the Mummy head, this Frodo torso, white hands, and dark brown full-length legs.

That would be perfect! I understand to a point why we're seeing Magneto again, as he's really the only mainstream X-Men villain, and then really one of the only ones that can fly (which is important in taking down a jet ) I'm sure once we get our inevitable X-Mansion we'll get a new bad-guy.

What's that head from? Is it from the LEGO Movie sets?
-
Minifigure-wise, I'm expecting about 5 if it's as large as Moon_Knight suggests. We've got two already (Storm and Magneto) so I feel the most likely choices are gonna be Wolverine with a cowl, Cyclops, and another villain. Personally, I'd rather see Wolverine with the cowl, Cyclops, Gambit, and Archangel, though that's pretty unlikely. If I could think of a mainstream flying X villain he'd be taking that most likely slot.

I'd take a Guardians TV show over Avengers Assemble in general any day. That actually sounds pretty cool, while Avengers Assemble is a blatant attempt at cashing in on the success of the movies while sacrificing quality. I hope they go the more comic-accurate route, though. That way we might get minifigs of both the movie and comic book counterparts.

Marvel still owns the source material, and there is no way they'd let an opportunity to capitalize off of these characters being in the public eye of their target demographic. So we could see Wolverine in a white t-shirt and Magneto looking kinda similar to Micheal Fasbender's version, although most likely just in costume. It wouldn't be hard at all to slip past the copyrights when your dealing with one company owning every character, story, and related noun and another making a movie based on that. Fox can use any character from the X-Men side of things that they'd like and Marvel can then market that character and keep every penny of that profit to themselves. It's really the smartest move they can make.

They can use the name X-Men and pass of everything in the set as being comic-based, no matter how apparent it is that they're cashing in on the movie, it's costumes, characters or plot. They can't market it as "LEGO X-Men: Days of Future Past sets" or use pictures of the cast from the movies. It's a teeny loophole.

It doesn't matter anyway. LEGO can make as many unofficial movie tie-ins as they want. Do you think we'd see Ultimate Electro if it wasn't for him having a big movie with that exact version of Electro? They're allowed to do pretty much anything with the characters as long as they don't use the logos or anything. They even made the movie Spider-Man into a ComicCon exclusive figure, so...

I'm almost certain that if Wonder Woman, Flash, or Green Lantern show up, it'll be in a post-credit scene. POSSIBLE SPOILER<A supposed leak of the last page of the script for the Flash movie included a post-credit scene involving Hal Jordan's Green Lantern, so if that's true than he's out for Man of Steel 2.>END POSSIBLE SPOILER I'm only putting money on us seeing Batman, Superman, and Nightwing in the next movie sets (and of course Lex). I can imagine a post credit scene for Batman/Superman involving WW, Flash, Green Lantern, and Cyborg, but that still wouldn't be enough for them to produce whole sets on.

How exactly did you build the Brain?

I haven't heard anything of Metallo being in the film. I doubt Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, or the Flash will be prominent enough in the movie to be put in the sets, although I'm pretty sure Nightwing will be in there. The confirmation of "Robin" and the casting call they put out is too on the nose for it to not be Nightwing. Lex Luthor was confirmed by Zack Snyder, the director. Given the characters we saw in the Man of Steel wave, I'm almost certain that we won't be seeing Alfred in a set based on the movie.

I figured that since he's in so many DC sets it would be redundant to put him in that line too, as well as bad for business, because "Why buy the DC sets for Batman if I can get him in this Movie set?"

I really. really hoped that the LEGO Movie Batmobile was going to make it into a set. It looked so much cooler than any of the other Batmobiles we've seen, and it's definitely a nod to the Frank Miller version. I considered making an MOC inspired by that Batmobile based on this set, although with the mech suit in the back replaced by a ceiling. I doubt I'll ever do it, though. I'm almost certain that we won't be seeing any of the licensed characters in the Movie sets, since we've seen the first wave (because honestly, this thing'll get at least two waves) and it's all characters debuting in the movie.

I tried, but it told me that that I wasn't allowed to use that extension in this community. I'm using Flickr, by the way. That's still purist. The decal dispute was dealt with a few pages back, so you're good.

Speaking of this set, since it's about to go out of circulation, do you think we'll see a new set with non-Man of Steel Superman or Wonder Woman in the coming waves? It seems ridiculous that LEGO would think that the Batmobile would need to be in circulation but not Superman and Wonder Woman. This might be a good time to give us WW's invisible jet and a New 52 variant, and maybe New 52 Supes can go up against Braniac?

My favorite thing about that list is that it's also a flow chart. The movie flopped therefore barely any movie merchandise was sold so his cartoon series was cancelled and no shop would sell any cartoon merchandise! It's all to be blamed on that crappy movie! But we have to remember that LEGO did make a Green Lantern Ultrabuild figure (that's what those were called, right?) during the first wave of the theme. I'm not sure how well it sold, but it does say that LEGO isn't fully opposed to Green Lantern. I'm fairly certain that he won't be getting his own set anytime soon, but we could see him teamed up with another hero (probably Batman *eyeroll*) fairly soon, given they've hit every other major Justice League member. I'm excluding Martian Manhunter, since he isn't that iconic of a member. I'll go ahead and put money on the next wave of DC sets including Green Lantern and Cyborg, since we've pretty much used every marketable member of the Batman family (Red Hood and Red Robin are really the only ones left and frankly aren't well-known enough to make the cut yet). Maybe in a year or two we'll get Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Zatanna if we're lucky. (this post took a huge tangent, I apologize)
