When did LEGO start using SNOT techniques ?
Randal replied to drdavewatford's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Regarding the kids question, "are they frustrated by snot bricks?" I don't think so. I think todays kids are picking up more complex concepts quicker as a result of current understandings about learning, which is affecting (and affected by) what they watch as toddlers on tv, what they learn in school and the resources on the internet. The stuff they're teaching my son in kindergarten (and previously my daughter) was what they taught my generation in first and maybe even second grade. -
LEGO Digital Designer Relay Community Build
Randal replied to ADHO15's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Here's what I would do. I would make a modified proposed change and post it for evaluation. If your change is liked by the person who's stuff you're changing, then they give the yea or nay. Also, you guys can use the parquet I designed for my pool hall if you want. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests

"Build a face"... instead of (or in addition to)standard face selection. I'd love to be able to mix and match eyes and mouths. I realize I might be alone in this, as I use LDD in an extended capacity. I still build mocs, but not as often as I pose characters. -
LEGO Digital Designer Relay Community Build

When it's finished, I'll try to commemorate it with an appearance (hopefully tasteful) in Brick. It's interesting to see what other people do with your creation. I'd bet Lego initially never thought about LDD being used for community AFOL builds or webcomic production. -

I almost voted for you, but I'm a sucker for LDD, 'Thriller' and 'Discworld' related stuff. Sorry. -

I wasn't expecting to get any votes, you guys are making me . -
While I prefer Atlantis sets over Power Miners, this is a pretty sweet MOC. It looks like it was inspired by real mining machinery.

I remember this being a fun build. (If I recall correctly, this is one of the sets I built for the LDD official sets thread.)

I like when people take geometrically sterile bricks and make something organic like this. Nice job on the raised rocky shoreline and the meadow above.
-
I like the sleek elegance of this build. Good job.

You know how that went down, right? NASA: What do you mean you're bored up there? Don't we give you plenty to do? Astronauts: What about in our down time? NASA: So, what are you saying? You want Movies? X-box? A good book? Astronauts: We want... Legos. NASA: Legos? Astronauts: Legos.

how to get gear wheels 6542 to mesh
Randal replied to jono rocky's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
While not that piece, I've also had troubles with posing some movable pieces. Once I finish the strip, you'll be able to see the dragon parts I'm talking about, but the neck and head pieces don't like moving without some manipulation of moving them then replacing them and the bottom jaw doesn't want to move at all. I'll post the strip with a copy of this post in LDD4 bugs a bit later. I thought it was because they were attached to a couple manipulated chain pieces, but removing the chains didn't change the immobility. -
I wish they still held the Detroit Grand Prix... I guess I should stop holding out for a return, as it's been 22 years. =(

Man... I wish. Then I could afford to buy brick sets. That's okay, I have an unlimited supply of virtual bricks and my comic keeps me busy... although this week they decided to upgrade the code at my host site and I haven't been able to put up any comics this week. D=<

LLD won't open for me
Randal replied to Prawns's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I wonder why that didn't affect me? I had LU mode on 3.1 and when I upgraded it worked fine and opened up having LU already activated. I guess I'll count my blessings, I'm usually the one that is mired in complications. =S -

Don't let Superkalle scare you off. He means well. =) (candid image of Superkalle surfing Eurobricks...) I wish I could get the enhanced imagery on my computer. It really looks nice in your screen shots. Edit: hmm, maybe it's Calabar who's secretly Sheldon in real life.- 5,046 replies

Halloween Mini-Month Avatar Contest! VOTE NOW!
Randal replied to Shadows's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm a bit biased toward mine, but I wouldn't pick me, myself and I in a vote. =O In no particular order, my choices are Prateek, absolutelylez and Fugazi. Prateeks looks like LDD, absolutelylez has Death dressed up as the Hogfather (or Santa, if you insist) and Fugazi's for the awesome Thriller lookback (even if he used MJ's Jackson 5 hair instead of his Thriller hair.) -

Heh, on election day too. How appropriate. (Well, in the U.S., at least) -
Heh. I saw "Peanuts" and "Comic" and thought "What's a Charlie Brown comic doing in the Lego Adventures forum.?" But now I have it in proper perspective. You asked for a critique, so here goes: I think a little bit is lost in translation, but I'm not going to knock your dialog, as your English is better than my Deutsch. Some of the juxtaposition is a bit puzzling, but that could be a byproduct of me having a hard time following along. I would suggest using straight white for the dialog if you're going to string bits of it together with such thin lines. The green gets lost in the background and confused me a bit there too. In the future, you might like to experiment with a graphics editing program and putting a few panels together on one page, cropping each to focus on the action that is telling your story. One thing I sometimes do is get close up head shots for dialog said by someone who is important to the scene, but not a focus of the action in the panel. While I've been building Lego longer than I've been making comics, I've been making (and reading) comics for a very long time, so I take these things seriously. But I'm not going to rip you to shreds, this was an honest effort and not too bad. It just needs some clean up in the translation department, as far as I can tell. ;)

Wow, Talk about back from the dead... this topic is two years old. :D For the record, I think both sets are cool, but I also think this contest was over two years ago.

I think Pirates is too ingrained to ever go away for good, and next year they're doing PotC, which is... you know... Piratey. That said, Lego Pirates are awesome. If I thought they were never coming back, I'd sign, but I don't believe that.
