New book: Incredible LEGO Technic
Sariel replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's good to have you guys :) Part of the idea behind this book is to surprise people a bit, show them that not everything has to look like official Technic sets. Technic is still one part of an entire system and benefits from combining with other parts. Which is perhaps best expemplified by Mahj's "Girl Tank" which is Technic all the way, but has LEGO Friends parts in it - and looks awesome (sadly, we didn't have enough space to have it in the book). Consider that this book will be accessible by broader public, thanks to not being die-hard Technic. Who knows who we may lure into our hobby, perhaps even more women? ;) -
Just to avoid confusion, it's not the PF Servo, it's the steering output of the RC unit. That's not doable even in real vehicles, because anything sitting in the middle of the track has minimal contact area with it. It's always front or rear sprockets that are driven. And yes, Krówki are still delicious :)

There is no paperback edition, only hardcover edition. The other sellers are simply naming it wrong. Note that the cover is not traditional ultra-thick, ultra-heavy thing. It's thin, but hard. -

Must be an error on Amazon's and Book Depository's side. I'm told it's definitely hardcover, with some cool, sturdy binding. -

I suppose so, this is normal with Amazon. I've just checked and British Amazon has it available for pre-order too, with free shipping within UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Incredible-Technic-Amazing-LEGO-Trucks/dp/1593275870/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404137173&sr=8-2 -

Looks like the Book Depository and Amazon also take pre-orders already. I have added links in the first post. It may be a cheaper alternative if you're not based in US. -
Flight using Lego
Sariel replied to anton1678's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm starting to think this is the sole purpose of this thread. Look, with all due respect: have you noticed how the most sceptical people here happen to be people with most experience with Lego and RC flight? Doesn't that tell you anything? The same would happen if you built a really good MOC instead of sitting here wishing for the laws of physics to stop working.- 157 replies

Well, I surely don't want to make it look like people who aren't in the book are worse than then people who are. It's simply that a book like this has very high quality requirements for photos, and that dictates which models could and which could not be included. If I could, I would get everyone on board. -
I hope this is acceptable as a topic here: In short, thanks to the awesome 37 builders who agreed to let me harass them again and again, there is a new book coming this October. The goal: to show what is possible with LEGO Technic. The 74 models come with big photos, including some not previously published ones, and with awesome renders from Blakbird, including some see-through ones, all carefully prepared to look great in print. As a bonus, there is the last model built by Jennifer Clark, never published before. Details: http://sariel.pl/book2 Some preview of the content: The hardcover edition of the book is now available for pre-order from the publisher (30% off at the moment): http://www.nostarch....credibletechnic Pre-order is also possible from Book Depository and Amazon. The ebook edition will be made available a little later, to counter piracy which has been quite an issue with my previous book. Thanks to all the great folks who have made this book possible: Blakbird, Conchas and the builders: 2LegoOrNot2Lego, Amida, andrea Grazi, Barman, Brunojj, Crowkillers, Designer Han, Dirk Klijn, Dmac, Drakmin, Edwin Korstanje, Efferman, Eric Trax, Francisco Hartley, Gyuta, Jennifer Clark, Jerac, Jurgen Kroopshoop, Klaupacius, Konajra, Lasse Deleuran, M_longer, Madoca, Mahj, Makorol, Marat, Nathanael Kuipers, Nico71, Oryx Chen, RoscoPC, Sariel, Senator Chinchilla, Sheepo, Spiderbrick, Splat, Thirdwigg, and ZED :)

When your rodent overlords decide they need a pair of tracks for their nefarious purposes, there is no saying 'no'. A little more about this silliness: http://sariel.pl/2014/06/tankbike/

So, I didn't like how fragile Lego ready-made tracks are when driven outdoors, so I've made my own tracks. They're extremely durable, and quite flexible, but also almost 3x heavier than the 5L wide Lego tracks. Please note that beams-built tracks are not my idea, I've seen them on various vehicles over the years. I just decided to build my own tracks with 2L beams, as they need only axles to stay together. Lots of people thought these tracks would slip, but they don't - as you can see here: Pics & reading: http://sariel.pl/2014/06/grassgrinder/
