I would say it looks the most like a Dodge Viper, except for the Viper has a V10 engine.

Wow...that looks awesome! It's nice to see something this large built from mostly studless pieces. I'd like to see more pictures of the mechanical bits, especially the engine with 6 m motors. In one of the pictures, I see an LA inside the superstructure. Maybe the engine is 6 LAs/motors connected to a crankshaft? Very nice build.

All of those designs are great! I especially like the extension tube. These are some parts I would like to see: Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular 3L with Center Pin Hole, but I would like to see the + and 0 holes switched with each other. I have come across many uses for a piece such as this. I would also like to see the axle and pin connectors in angles less than 90 degrees. A 5x7 "L" shaped liftarm would be nice as well. A 16T clutch gear (not the dark grey idler gears, but something like the white 24T clutch gears)

The Rokon I posted earlier is a 2wd bike. They were slow with no suspension, but they could go just about anywhere.

I love the 2wd bike idea. It reminds me of a Rokon Trail-Breaker: Supposedly, fuel could be stored inside the rims for longer operating range. The bikes could be floated across creeks as well. Nicely done!

On the Unimog, a single m motor could be used to power all the functions plus a compressor. Two driving rings could be used to select between the following functions. As usual, a PF switch would provide direction control. -Turntable -Winch -Stabilizers -Compressor Use one driving ring to select between the turntable and winch, while the second driving ring would select between the stabilizer and compressor functions. In this way, the compressor and turntable can be operated simultaneously. The compressor would obviously have to work regardless of which way the PF switch is, but that isn't a big deal. And if the compressor is not needed, the driving ring can be placed in the neutral position. I think it is totally feasible for all functions to be either motorized or pneumatic with one motor. Is it just me, or does the Unimog also have a telescopic boom? Looks almost like it does in the pictures. I love the tires, and I hope they make it to production. Now that Mercedes is a new licensed product, could we see a new super car based on the SLS AMG in the future?

I agree. I'd recommend this set for the large amount of gears as well. The 8258 Crane Truck is another set I'd recommend, and it is currently 50% off at Lego.com. Both those sets offer a great starting point, but even with those sets, a lot more gears would have to be purchased off bricklink to build something like the Antikythera Mechanism.

I'm very tempted to buy a second one just for the parts. For anybody just getting into Technic and looking for a good set with lots of parts, this is a must buy. The 8046 Helicopter and 8259 Mini Bulldozer are half off as well.

I agree! No PF elements would be better. I also hope Lego makes a new tire that has the same diameter as the PP tires, but narrower. I guess it depends on why you buy Lego. Some people buy a set, build it, and display it on the shelf. For these people, I can understand why they want PF sets. PF functions add a lot to the playability. Some people (like myself), prefer to buy sets for their parts. We may build the set once, and after a little while, the sets get disassembled and the parts go into mocs. The last 4 sets I have purchased (8265 Front Loader, 8051 Motorbike, 8043 Excavator, and 8258 Crane Truck) have all been disassembled with the parts going into mocs I'm working on. I have enough PF elements in my collection now from these sets and from individual orders. I'm at the point where I would prefer to buy sets that have larger piece counts than PF elements. I could always use more pieces. Just my $.02.

The OP said he may want to build the Antikythera Mechanism. I thought this sounded like a fun project. I should have made myself more clear...sorry. The old style differentials are useful in other projects as well. They are fun to experiment with. Adam, if you plan on building cranes, excavators, etc; one of the turntable gears will be useful as well. -Daniel

Looks great! Good job making the body so realistic with just studless pieces. 20 hours to build is pretty quick too! This would have probably taken me at least twice that long.

True, however the 8412 Nighthawk and the 8444 helicopter had moving rotor blades. If I remember correctly, both of these sets were less than $40. Maybe Lego's mold for creating those unique swash plate pieces no longer exists. That aside, I think it is a great looking set. I didn't realize it was so much larger than 8046. Thanks for the photo!

I'm debating whether or not to buy this. It looks great, and I like the white pieces. However, I'm disappointing that a helicopter in this price range has fixed rotor blades. I think I'll wait and see what comes out during the 2nd half of year before making a decision. I do really like the appearance, especially the B model.

I have the newer version of 8043, but it still has the old style 16t gears.
