Lego Cvt
dhc6twinotter replied to garson's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, that's pretty cool. I hadn't seen that kind of CVT before. I like it. -
Hey Jacob, My latest project used three remote control pneumatic valves. It worked well, except for I did not have any return to center function. It did use clutch gears though, so the motors did not stall. Sorry, I don't have any instructions, but I do have a picture: I hope that helps. I look forward to seeing your project.

Lego Cvt
dhc6twinotter replied to garson's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree with allanp. The best way to build a CVT is to use two cones like shown in his illustration. You could use a wheel in the center or build a chain/belt to go around them. As far as I know, the CVTs put in real cars use two cones with a belt or chain wrapped around them. -
Telehandler

Nice job! I like the dual mode steering and the movable forks. -
Fantastic! I'm impressed! You managed to squeeze in a lot of functions in a small space! I've been working on a backhoe for a few months as well, and finding space for the motors and gearbox is difficult. My backhoe has all the motors in the chassis with shafts going to the rear boom, and to be honest, I like your idea of placing motors in the boom better. Very good job. I like it.

Alvin's Creations

Awesome cranes! I remember seeing these at Brickfair last year, and I was really blown away. Fantastic job. I hope my future wife will be as tolerant to my Lego hobby as your girlfriend/wife appears to be. -
My vote goes to the following: -A road grader -A new space shuttle -A new, more complex helicopter similar to the Whirlwind Rescue -A forwarder -A trash truck with side mounted grabber -A real super car with AWD and working gearbox. And, my ultimate wish for a flagship model is a remake of the 8855 Prop Plane. Add more functions and a radial engine, and it would be one fantastic model.

New Technic "Super Pack"
dhc6twinotter replied to garson's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I didn't even know technic super packs were available! Pretty neat! The only super pack I've ever seen in stores was the old Star Wars Pod Racer pack that I bought. -
Cool! I didn't realize the release date was August 2nd. That means I can buy this set while I'm at Brickfair! Parts from Lego Direct can also be ordered through the Lego website, but it may take a week or so for somebody to email back a response. That's the method I've always used when ordering parts through Lego Direct.

Great crane! Is that a 3 section boom? How do you have the steering setup? I really like your building style, and it seems similar to how I build things. Do you have any other pictures? Any video? Nice job! -
It appears that the middle set of wheels are not driven by the motor. http://etftrucks.nl.vedor.com/Innovations/Tire-cost-savings/ (scroll down a bit--sorry, for some reason the forum isn't letting me post a picture with a jpg file extension ) Of course having all the wheels driven would be awesome, but it may be cheaper and/or easier to build the model with just 16 wheel drive. It would be more realistic as well. Something else to ponder.

Very nice looking skip truck! The design of the body is done well. -
Lamborghini tractor

Looks good! I like the fenders over the front wheels and the gearbox. -
Wow...that dump truck is very cool! That would be a really fun project. I'm going to add this to my list of projects, and I may do this as my next project. Very cool. The ETF website also has some other interesting vehehicles, like the self loaders and haul trains. Thanks for the links, grindinggears!

I'll be there again this year! Can't wait! I've got a few Technic mocs I'll be bringing, all contingent on whether or not I finish them on time. A remote control JCB 3CX backhoe, a small scale 16 cylinder radial engine with variable pitch prop, and a remote control Bobcat A300 (lots left to do though...this may not get done in time). I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Hey Bulle, There is only one panhard bar per axle. One end of the panhard is connected to the axle, and the other end connected to the frame. You are correct, the axle does move slightly to the side as the suspension compresses. It shouldn't be too much movement though...maybe a stud or so. In real world applications (like my Toyota 4Runner), any time an aftermarket lift higher than a couple inches is installed, a longer or adjustable panhard bar is preferred to keep the axle centered.
