Marines for my upcoming English ship of the line!
Capn Frank replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
Are you going to be giving any of your new marines a "shave"? Are these impulse sets the same price as the Cannon Battle set? They are in the U.S., so i only buy the Cannon Battle sets. -
Hey Specever, Can anybody post their B-L orders here? Nein, ich spreche Duestch nicht. Well it depends on what type of mast you're looking for. The old version of masts (my favorite) you'll need: For the Standard BSB or SES Mast from bottom to top use: There are multiple variations for most of these mast sections. If one type is too expensive, I'd look at a different variation. They all seem to work the same. + + + For a little bit shorter of a mast you can use the shorter base: There is also this top mast piece: It can be used instead of the top mast piece shown for the "standard mast" for a shorter mast, or can be used with the standard top mast piece to make the standard mast even taller. Or you could go with the new mast which only have the following from bottom to top: I've only used the top portion of this mast for small vessels. This type of mast seems less stable than older version of mast pieces. + Hope this helps. Edit by Phred: Just realized Fluyt posted most of the same info. Should be able to understand mast assemblies from both posts.

Great work Hinckley! I really like this MOC. It goes very well next door to the brewery. I look forward to more creations like this in the future.

Wonderful! Now this needs to be distributed to the islanders! They've been needing a new way to prepare their food.

That's not where i'm going to keep it! It's where it needs to be when getting transported to Brickworld. Captain Green Hair's and Errorist's long boat and Mine Here are a couple of suggestions: Kurt's carronade using a Black barrel for a barrel. And using eh... ...something else for a barrel.

BrickArms Rapier Production Version
Capn Frank replied to the enigma that is badger's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thank you Badger. I do hope that Will has the Scimitar available with this rapier. Rapier looks great! Keeps us posted on availability. -
I do admit my first attempt wasn't very pleasing to the eye. Yes! I do! I've saved the pics and printed them off to be referenced when i work on the constitution next. The entire length of the "bay window assembly" is about 10-11 feet long. This limits the window sizes. I've got all the bricks to try this method and try to fit it where it needs to be. Thanks.

Hmm. That's a good idea to have them pass through the top deck. I'll have to give that a shot. Thanx Z. I would like mine to be removable though. The Constitution has to be able to fit inside of a 4 door Grand Am without much trouble.

Sorry for the late reply, I fell out of the internet world for a bit. Thanx for the close up pictures Z. I see your masts appear very similar to mine. How stable are you masts? Mine currently sway side to side, but i don't have any rigging tied on yet.

I picked the Cannon battle as my favorite set. I've picked up 2 already, but i'll need another 30 to get all cannons i'd need for the constitution. The last set i'll probably get (if i even get all of the new pirate sets) will be Brickbeard's Bounty. There's no way i'm spending $100 for a set with just under 600 pieces. I'd much rather get the Medieval Marketplace for $100. More bricks, better bricks, more figs, and better built.

No problem. Your ship will be the first one i sink. Thank you Teddy! I don't think i will be tiling this ship. I'd need A LOT of tiles! and I like to add "legoism" to a lego model. I've never tiled an entire ship deck before. If i do, i'd start on a much smaller vessel first to see how i like it. Thank you Zorro. Although i think i'll leave SlyOwl alone (for now ). Update!: When i first built the stern portion, i made the angle such that it was 4 studs too wide in the back. So i rebuilt almost all of the stern so that it fits much better with the actual ship. Here's how far i got: I've gotten the rigging channel installed and ready for the main mast. Now i just have to get more modified 1x1 bricks with studs on 2 or 4 sides to complete it. The rigging channel is removable. When it's on, it holds the stern with the rest of the ship. When the channel is removed, it's real easy to take the stern off the rest of the ship. Plus, there are many blue technic pins, part of which are axles, to keep the decks lined up perfectly. I've started on the captains cabin, I have where the Mizzen mast is going to be, and I have the "first draft" of the steering wheels. A close up of the steering wheels and the started Mizzen Mast. And a close up of the barely started captains cabin. Spent A LOT of time to get this far. The Single pane is just "wedged" in there. Connecting it to the adjacent window sill didn't seem to work (at all). Also, the yellow "cheese wedge" will be replaced with a white one and the red and gray under the windows will be black once i order more of them on BL. I am utterly low on many of my black bricks right now.

Well you can't have all the fun. I uploaded a few of my MOCs too (pending approval). -
My first MOC - "The White Flag" - Caribbean Tavern
Capn Frank replied to freakristall's topic in Pirate MOCs
I've added the pics to your first post. It works perfectly if you delete the bold, underlined portion in the line below (and the asterisks). The directlink must end in .jpg, .png, or some other picture file to work. [*img*]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3094/3147142975_32f56c864f.jpg?v=0[*/img*] I don't obey this rule either. I'd ask Mr. SlyOwl about it. -
I like the sail configuration in version 2. I don't see ships with the Sky Sail too often. Now we just need to see some brown, tan, or rown decks.

In October 2006, my first MOC on the internet is a MODed UCS ISD and a couple of ships to scale. (don't tell anybody from the Pirate forum ) I just couldn't stand this set without a docking bay or ionization reactor. The corellian corvette has a blaster turret on the bottom too. (Pics are a link to B-S folder) I didn't even have my own B-S folder at the time and used my friends account. I did have a MOCpages account though. It wasn't possible to load pics onto MOCpages when i joined. MOCPages link

Nice tank Aaron! I like the use of the "x-wing engine" in the front. Are those treads modified? I think the engine for your new tank is over heating in that last image.

Snow Box Derby Rules & Discussion
Capn Frank replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
May i use other sig figs as snow boxes? -
Maybe Cpt. Jr. can explain the graph a little more? I got that it's proof that Piracy is needed to keep global warming from occurring. Now pull out your eye patches and hooks and do some real piratey things to get rid of global warming.

Mr. Swab Would this be the ship you're adding the new rigging to? I would suggest posting progress pictures of your rigging. It's real easy to edit the final version into the first post.

Dutch VOC ship the Prins Willim, minifig scale!
Capn Frank replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in Pirate MOCs
Once i find a way to have my ship cross the Atlantic, I'll let you know. That would be awesome to bring these two ships together. -
Well that makes sense. Thanx Quarryman. I never even heard of the Beaufort Scale before.
-
I've gotten all the black barrels and R2-D2 bodies i need, just awaiting my next order that has all of the 1x6 tan tiles. Then all of the carronades will be complete. I've gotten only 1 or 2 of those $2.50, black barrels per order for the last year and a half.

Which pieces would you like to see in future pirate sets?
Capn Frank replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'd keep track of what brickarms is making. I know they plan on creating some more piratey items. It would probably benefit the both of you if you each made different items. I like the smaller cannon idea. I'd like to see smaller buckets and barrels. -
They're the same top speeds i've found on Wikipedia and other locations. The fastest sailing ship ever was "clocked" at 22 knots. It was the clipper ship the Flying Cloud. There also is a modern clipper ship that can go 17 knots. No idea what the wind speed was when the ships hit those speeds. Closest thing i could find are speed diagrams for small sailing yachts to find any type of wind speed to ship speed comparisons. what's a 6bft?
