Here be picture of those inspirational ships that Fender Bender was talking about: The Prince Royal i think it was also renamed the HMS Resolution, not sure though. The Sovereign of the Seas and the wiki article This is a good looking ship for a first MOC *y* Very impressed. It would appear by the coloring of this ship you're a Black Seas Barracuda (or BSB) fan and that you at least one on of them. X-D Should check out the Review of the BSB. ;-) The main thing i see with this MOC is that it's lacking the Tumblehome Effect above the waterline. P

Nice Lego "i-let" Z *y* Looks pretty good. It's a little bulky, but it's not easy to not be bulky with lego bricks :-/ I don't have any of those weird technic pieces either |-/ I didn't know those pieces were available in black. May have to look out for them in my next BL orders. P

Oh yeah i remember that now :-D Thanx Mr. Phes. P

Probably, I knew this thread existed and took a little time to find this thread. It would be easier if it were in the library. P

I didn't know where else to put this info so i figured here was a good spot X-D You know how difficult it is to have string tied onto paper and cloth sails and they may not always look quite right. I think i may have found an interesting solution to this dilemma. I was in a Ben Franklin store near the scrapebook section with my wife, when my eyes accidentally wandered into the arts and crafts with paper section and i saw these babies 8-o They're called i-lets or eyelets. To use them you'll need to get an i-let setter. (see pic below) First you cut a small rough hole in the paper or cloth. Then what i did was place the i-let on a hard surface (smooth side down) with the i-let through the hole on the sail. Next, with the i-let setter, push down on the non-smooth side. After that, tap the rough side of i-let with a hammer to secure it onto the paper or cloth better. It should look something like this: below is the other side: These i-lets come in many different colors from white to antique brass. The size of these i used are 1/4 in. The website of the i-lets that i bought. Some official instructions for i-let setting. Let me know what you think. :) Phred

It's pretty interesting having ppl from all over the world on here. At first i was hesitant about being a member @ EB cause i'm in the US, then i couldn't resist X-D . That's a good point. I try to answer those types of questions gracefully. I'll try to find the link to the topic of their question after giving the answer, then they my get pointed in the right direction ;-) . I have a friend who doesn't go to any forums and only goes to mocpages and brickshelf. I've encouraged him to join EB but he says he's just too busy :-/ I'm sure there are a lot of AFOLs are like that, more than we might think. I wonder if they're brothers like dukeschunke and i ;-) P

I agree with B *y* I'll have to try this too. Thanx Z, P

Nice ship *y* I don't mind the green sails. I think if TLC were to make this ship, they'd have have colored sails. :) I also in agreement about the back squar windows being too big. Maybe some lattice could be used there as windows. What piece is that steering wheel? I've never seen that before. I like the smaller cannons and the swivel guns. *y* *y* Added them to the Cannon Index too P

Gaetano, You can make that suggestion in the embassy part of the forum in We want Pirates! thread. The embassy's where Lego ambassadors go to see what EBers want from Lego (or something like that ;-) ). P

As stated already, it's real expensive to get shakos seperately, but it'll probably be cheaper to convert your current troops to tri or bicorn troops and buy imperials with shakos already with them. It seems to be a lot cheaper, cause it's pretty easy to get tri and bicorns for under $0.30 on BL while shakos are really expensive. It's nice to have a mix of troops. There a lot of Napolean fans out there. P

First off these are the speeds without anything on the ships. :-D We're working on that right now. the DDW will definitely go a lot slower when her 70 cannons and carronades are taken into consideration. I know about the draft thing and comparison to actual ships. I actually had to slow the lego versions proportionally down cause they were all way too fast compared to actual ships on a 1 to 45 scale. Like the Xebec going 36 knots 8-

Well the printer paper sails are temporarily the permanent sails X-D Thanx Legeaux. Yup i was a combo of 1x2 plates and 1x2 plates w/ 1 stud on top on the lattice. P
-
Hmm, i've got a few hulls like that laying around. Never even considered using them on a piratey ship before. I'll have to give it a whirl. Thanx Legeaux! P

Lego handcuffs! 8-o I didn't know those were made. Hey Z, you wouldn't happen to know what set that's from and the part # and etc. would ya? P

What a cool and original MOC Captain of Cool X-D Very creative. Do you have a pic of the ship before it sank? P

Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?

Holy cow! 8- -
Welcome back Mr. Tiber! (i hope X-D ) Yeah about those rown snot slopes, i don't think i'll be doing that again. |-/ It looks ok(ish). I am out of black, rown, and brown inverted slopes, so i had to get creative X-D I had a whole bunch of rown slopes from my sandcrawler and tried to implement them. It could look better, but i don't have the pieces right now to make it look better. Same thing with the red yard arms pretty much. Thanks about the windows *y* The DDW is hogging them all right now :-D Yes it was ;-) It's just a little too small and not colored correctly :-$ P

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6285 Black Seas Barracuda
Capn Frank replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
Hey Landlubber, You should make a seperate thread of your BSB-MOC *y* The USS constituition is also still afloat and goes on ceramonial cruises around the coast sometimes too. :) I had already owned the BSB when it's re-release came out, so it was a good opportunity to get a brand new black falcon's fortress, which was my absolute first ever lego set *sweet* P -
OH yeah, I like disneyland *y* wow i'm so glad i get to go on this ride again *sweet* , it's been 8 years. P

Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?
Capn Frank replied to Norrington's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Interesting find Commodore, I voted for exploitation. Although i don't think it's outright exploitation, maybe this "Rev." Smith needs to mature a bit. :-/ In the FAQ section i found some interesting quotes. This I like. I know there's a lot of violence in the Bible, but it seems like there are some pics that i wouldn't want to show children. For instance in Noah's flood, there are pics showing ppl dying and then it shows their skeletons when the waters recede. His creations seem more violent than needed. Is "Rev." Smith calling himself highly presumtuous and extremely vain? That seems kind of odd. |-/ As for his creations and build technique, I like it a lot. For instance, I like his design of the ark of the covenant. *y* This design is much better than any of the designs i've come up with. Also, I like his design of the lion too. P -
Strike your colors, you bloomin' cockroaches!
Capn Frank replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
Do you want the flag to be the same size as B's flags or do you want smaller 2x2 flags? Does the flag look like this? P -
Strike your colors, you bloomin' cockroaches!
Capn Frank replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
Hey Commoder, On the title of this thread, it says strike your colors you bloomin cockroaches! What color would you like me to strike? How bout Black and Red! >8-) Arrr! X-D P -
HMS Constitution? Dont know how big that one is, but anywayz... ...I was talking about the USS Constituion cause it's gonna be bigger than the DDW. :-$ P
-
From the HMS Charlie: I figured out how to use 4 1x2 hinge plates and a 2x2 tile for gun ports and found that it was really easy and cheaper to get port-hole covers in black rather than using 2x2 flags. Also, I now know what type of paper i'd like to get for paper sails and how to make them turn out really nice when crimping the sails between 2 plates. From the DDW: I figured out where it is better to make a ship modularized. Not near the rigging at all; the rigging for the main and fore mast aren't very sturdy |-/ , but they still hold. For hull construction, i'd like integrate the technique of this ship for the bow and stern: But i know that facets and wedges work ok for the bow and can be built very sturdy. *y* Also, I like the usage of space wheels on the bottom of the entire model. Makes it real easy to move a 9+ kg model around when working on it. X-D Those are the main things i've learned from these two ships :) I think i'm now ready for something bigger X-D P

Wow Maedhros, the "history" behind each faction is pretty interesting. Do you have an outline or a link to the castle stories that occur earlier in these factions histories? P
