  1. I know that this is a pirate sloop, but I might suggest giving it a traditional yellow/white stripe that is so prominent among ships of the King's Navy. Also, I'd make the deck brown if you can. Heck, maybe go with the candy-color styling of ships like the Lady Washington or the Royal Charlotte (one of my favorite ships, I might add) http://www.modelshipmaster.com/products/ta...al_Caroline.htm
  2. Sorry. I meant short rails. Maybe yu could put swivel guns on the stern or bow.
  3. Actually, I like it. I say one of these on Legeux's ships, and wondered what they were. Besides, tricornes were made of felt. I'm sure you could dye it while you rubbed it with mercury. It's a fairly good ship, but it could use two things: Better color scheme, more detail. Get rid of the gun ports (?) on the sides, replace them with shot rails and put, say, 2 small custom guns per side.
  4. It was interesting. I'm sure I heard it before, but I don't know where. That, however, I have heard and I remember where. Those crappy games for a an old Gameboy. What fun.
  5. All I hope is, that it's steampunk.
  6. Oh, that's a good one. I'll have to do that sometime.
  7. Well, this list is by no means comprehensive. These are just the things I listen to while I MOC. There are others I listen to, but they're musicals, and consquently have nothing to do with pirates.
  8. Allright, I was thinking, and when I MOC, I tend to have some sort of music on in the backround that relates to what I'm building. S, here is a list of CDs that may be useful to you. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Composed by Hans Zimmer & Klaus Badelt Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Compoed by Hans Zimmer Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Composed by Hans Zimmer Walt Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Composed by Paul J. Smith, Restored by John Debney Note: Unlike most others, this Soundtrack is only avalible on iTunes in digital form. Despite rigourous marketing of the movie in the 50's, Disney has never arranged for it to released mainstream. Age of Empires III Composed by Stephen Rippy Pirates of the Caribbean 40th Anniversary CD Composed by George Burns, Xavier Atencio Featuring voice talents of Thurl Ravenscroft and Paul Frees Note: This soundtrack is avalible only in Disney theme parks and from DelivEars.
  9. Yay! A potential rip of of "Journey to the Center of the Earth". Maybe we'll get a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" rip off soon enough
  10. Hm, it was... interesting. You lost me at the end, so yeah. And what a rip! This was not performed by sock puppets . Not even brickbuilt sock puppets. I feel so ripped off. again.
  11. Damn. I was posting, and as I hit enter, it appeared that the topic was moved. However, I like the many details, such as the tile floor medallion on the courtyard's base. The cannons should have wheels on their carriages so they could recoil and be reloaded. I can't wait to se it finished.
  12. Holy sh*t! A purple fedora? Where'd you get it!?!? Is it new? Seriously, I think they look very good. I'd give Bruce the Tan Pith, as that's how I might think of a jungle explorer dressed like him. But then he'd just be the german guy with a different face. The prostitute is much improved.
  13. With the way LEGO is (forgive me, but in some respects it is) going down the toilet, I don't think it will necessarily renew the license. It probably has to do with the fact that parents ( I can't blame them) won't want to fork over 89.99 for a skeletal AT-TE or 54.99 for a crappy little 'star fighter' that doesn't have any printed pieces other than torsos.
  14. Say, who restored my avatar to it's former, new-pirate-ey self? Since a MOD or Admin removed it after Hinckley's post.
  15. Of course, Sorry for lack of pics, but here are some names: B'sun Will Captain Redbeard Rummy Governor Broadside Lt. De Martinet Captain Ironhook Admiral Woodhouse And the greatest of the LEGo pirates, Steve.
  16. After this and the horsehoe crabs, you're lucky your minifigs haven't unionized.
  17. Ah, I love Horse shoe crabs! I have the shells of two on my shelf, actually. Other than the fact that it's way out of scale, I love it!
  18. The bars appear to be standard, and the cell door is from city. The red would appear to be normal, also.
  19. Um... thank you for that marvelous mental image I think they are doing shooters, because even though the photos are photoshopped to death, they look bley.
  20. OOO! How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could Chuck Norris? Some sort of Eccentric Hundredaire with some sort of eccentric doublewide trailer.
  21. Don't hold your breath. Most of my red-brown is plates I'm using for deck on my frigate.
  22. Notice, to, how that sterncastle slowly slopes down, rather than sticking straight up in the air I may think it's ugly, but I'll still buy it, and maybe MOD it.
  23. Warship: Merchant: I do see your point of the 17th century, as the golden age of piracy was really about 1600 to 1690. They continued untill the 1780s, and were wid out with the steam ship. Play Sid Meier's pirates, it gives a very accurate idea of 17th century ships. The thing is, midway the the 1650s naval achitecture evolved into the things were used to in the 18th century. Some things disagree with the 17th centuy, namely: Bicornes & Shakos. Those came later. No, the paint jobs weren't really garish, they were just gaudy. I.E. The Soliel Royale had a good color scheme, it was so drenched in ornamentations that it became ugly at some point. British ships, I will admit were somewhat painted like that. natural wood brown on the hull, the black just above waterline, then white below the waterline. The ships like this (I can't find a decent picture that doesn't neeed to be scanned) were very close in achitecture to the kind that fought Napoleon. THey came about in the 1690's, 90-some years earlier. Even if it was accurate, it's sterncastle still doesn't flow well. EDIT: I apologize fo crude illustration, but here you go. My suggestion for making flow better.
  24. I don't think they're <insert that tiresome argument>. I can get over the fact that a set is <insert that tiresome argument> if it's good. I love the town plane from about a year back. I like the fort. I don't really like the ship. It's more a parts and figure pack. I know we won't get that loverly ship back, I'm just saying I'd prefer it to this ship. 1. The ship is no more <insert that tiresome argument> than any other. It just has a weird build and weird color scheme. I suppose I'm asking for too much realism, what with the fact that pirates have been romanticized here and other places. The original ships weren't all that realistic, and they were as <insert that tiresome argument> (the only major juniorization is hull pieces, and if you're like me, cannons. But it's good juniorization!) as this one. I'm posting from a MAC, so I don't want to the laborious lengths of post pictures of the BSB and this one to compare (I'm assuming that's OK, since we've got small snippets up in this thread already). Here is some points: 1. The sterncastle. All right. This is important. Most ships had a relatively small sterncastle, except during the 17th century, when there were massive ships like "Soveriegn of the Seas" and "Soliel Royale". This however, is probably not that way, as those were warships, and most likely, this a captured merchant. Sure, BSB has a huge honkin' sterncastle, but, it was done tastefully, and slowly sloped up into it. This however, (like most of LEGO's new ships) goes straight up into the air, with a pair of inverted arches quickly put there as an after thought. 2. The colors. Okay, most ships that were fighters had some sort of stripe going along their sides over the gundeck. However, most ships were black (any royal navy warship or BSB, for example). This is brown and white, not a good color combination in my opinion, and even more grating is the stern castle. All brown, with gold smothered all over it. Then the forecastle looks... like it actually has no deck. But I digress. I love the fact that there are new pirates. However, I'm just being myself and whining because the sets could have been better. The torsos don't really look more realistic. I like the soldiers, but the rest all seem cartoony (alright, the soldiers aren't exceptions from that.) and remind me of +4. Looking at Captain Blockbeard's torso, his ascot and other bits from others appear to bear a striking resemblance to the torsos of +4. Sorry for all this nay-saying and whining, everyone. I just expected more with this line. I don't think they're <insert that tiresome argument>. I can get over the fact that a set is <insert that tiresome argument> if it's good.
