  1. So I've decided to start painting minifigures. I really need some help on figuring out how to remove printing and what paints to use. Help would be appreciated.
  2. Hello! I recently bought a 3D printer and I am trying to make my own custom Lego pieces. Spray paint sticks to the custom pieces quite well, but it's being hard for me to find the right colors to match the LEGO ones. Can anyone recommend brands of spray paint for specific colors? Or maybe techniques used? I'm looking in particular for Flat Dark Gold and Flat Silver, but I'd be interested in any color you have experience with, for future reference. Thanks everybody, hopefully this topic can become a little database for people in my situation.

    Chinese ink painting

My tribute to a famous Chinese ink painter Xu Beihong (1895-1953). He was primarily known for painting horses. No glue used. Unlike the real painting which was done on paper, this MOC is very thick and heavy. I use a lot of technic parts to get more than half of the slopes stuck. The size of the MOC is 44x44 studs. I think this is the maximum size allowed for this method of creation. You may have noticed all the edges were curved outwards. 4. The chosen Heroes all stepped off their respective boats in the docks at Carthago. The city's hot sun beat down on the Heroes. Some locals looked in awe at the newcomers. Others, having dealt with Heroes before, seemed to pay no heed. Only the guards truly watched closely. The chosen met on the largest pier and looked back into the city. Before they sailed off, they each receieved a letter saying their man Wilfred was around this very pier. All they had to do now was find him. what kind of paint+brush works the best to make custom minifigs, I've tried acrylic, but it didn't work so well. Please help.
  6. Hey peeps. So today I bought a custom clone wars trooper which the seller added many new things too: Weapons, Gear, Capes. And he also painted and colored some of those things including the helmet. I bought one to see how to do it myself (NOT TO SELL) and pimp my troopers and jedis and also cause i wanted to support him. This all looks very nice and certainly adds a fresh look to the clones and other figures he does. I will add a picture. Custom 1 by Vincent ST, auf Flickr Custom 2 by Vincent ST, auf Flickr Now my question is if anyone knows what type of paint is good for painting legos as I want to experiment on not so important sets and replace the stickers with actual pain, I think this would look more authentic. I would follow the tattoo formula. Drawing it on first with removable paint and then trace it. Id love to hear what you guys think.
  7. LEGO Mosaic - Napoleon Crossing the Alps 拿破侖翻越阿爾卑斯山 Napoleon Crossing the Alps (also known as Napoleon at the Saint-Bernard Pass or Bonaparte Crossing the Alps) is the title given to the five versions of an oil on canvas equestrian portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte painted by the French artist Jacques-Louis David between 1801 and 1805. I don't like war but I like the Arts & painting. After two hundred years an oil on canvas painted by Jacques-Louis David, I recreate it in LEGO bricks version instead of an oil on canvas. It is quite huge size but perfect mounted on wall for my home decoration or exhibition. Builder : Alanboar Cheung Size : 144 studs (L) x 128 studs (W) Pieces : 15000 pcs Ready for mount on wall in my home :P Over 15000 small pieces of plates is collected for the creation. I collected them all over a years. I bought the wooden plate for the base of mosaic. Starting the mosaic painting combined with two 48x48 baseplate. It consumed 48x48 baseplate x 6 and 32x32 baseplates x 5 Stick together using with the strong sticker. More and more , it will be completed soon. My lovely biy help me and fun together :P It is one of my creation exhibited in "Alanboar & Mythbot Bricks Exhibition @ Macau Joy 2015" Thank you for your watching! 8. My recent order of Brickwarriors gear arrived yesterday, and I decided to add some of my own touch ups with some modeling paint. I used a bit of red and gold on the hats and a silver on the muskets and pistol.
  9. Totally custom. All hand-painted with a tiny brush. Custom stickers too. I realize this isn't purist, but I'm sure you can appreciate the involvement in making these figures.
  10. Hello again! These are my customs of the 9th and 10th Doctors. 9th: - Sculpted hairpiece - Electrical tape jacket - Custom decal for torso 10th: - Sculpted hairpiece - Custom decals for shoes - Screwdriver is Lego tubing, electrical tape and procreate clay, then painted. It actually flips in and out too! Comments & criticism is greatly appreciated.

    Moltor's Axe

Hello Eurobrickers! I decided that Nexo Knight's baddie, Moltor, needed a better weapon then just his hands. So, I made a suitable Lava axe for him! C&C much appreciated.

    Paintball!

This was built to challenge myself to make something on a 10x10 plate. It is inspired by the album cover art of Skyworld by Two Steps From Hell (I recommend it. The name is questionable, but the music is really hyping). Yes, the title is spur-of-the-moment.
  15. Hello everyone! Searched the forum for an answer about this, but could not find an answer. So before I read up on the Brasso/ toothpaste/ eraser technique, I made a mistake by trying to remove paint from a torso with a Swiss Army blade (I know, I know bad move) and it left behind some scratches and is no longer glossy. Is this part ruined? Can I use some kind of polish compound to bring back its shine or maybe use a spray clear coat? Thanks so much for the help, truly appreciated :)

    Pearl Gold Paint

Hi folks, I've got some helmets I need to re-color to match lego pearl gold. I did some searching, but wasn't able to find any clear recommendations. Has anyone else gone down this rabbit hole and, if so, what did you find? For reference, I'm looking to match the helmets to the arms on my Elven soldiers: Untitled by bricklearth, on Flickr
  17. The Heroes all arrive at the Docks at relatively the same time. There, they see a brown wooden ship, trimmed with black. Various sailors and workers are bustling around on the ship loading and unloading cargo. A seagull lands on the railing only to be quickly shooed away by what looks like the captain of the ship. The seagull squawks and flaps its wings away. Then, a glint of light catches the Heroes' eyes. They look to the left on towards the poopdeck. They see the glint is coming from a small, blue gem held by a man in a darker blue shirt and bright green pantaloons. His eyes hold a look of aloofness under the mop of blonde hair on his head. "There they are! Some of Heroica's finest warriors!" The man casts an eye towards Miderun and Annienal. "And some of the prettiest ones if I might add." The blonde man pockets the gem and walks down towards the gangplank and waves the Heroes on and they follow. "My name is Fabio Sumero. My brother Javier posted the notice about the acquisition of some of the rare dyes from the island of Tridentia." Fabio bows low to the Heroes in greeting. He then looks to the two women and says to the entire group, but directed towards the girls, "Perhaps you've seen some of the Sumero Family's work." Fabio then casually pushes a stray lock of hair back. "Do any of you have any questions?" 18. Good day! I've been thinking of making a large amount of customs, specifically LOTR, to fill up the gaps left behind by that theme. However, I'm looking for a way to add nice and clean looking lines (mainly black, but something for orange cheekbone lines as well as orcish colours may also be necessary) onto minifigures. Mainly faces (for custom heads), but also torsos, legs, etc., that's what I'm trying to improve on now. Before this, it has usually been tiny details and painting larger things that didn't require smooth, thin lines. I've tried the usual thing - painting them. But that usually leaves me with a sloppy looking figure head that doesn't even look close to being LEGO quality, even though I'd like to make some custom heads that would fit quite right in with official ones. The next thing I tried was a permanent marker. I've used it a few times now and it works well for applying lines (either over painted sections of figure parts or to paint in between the lines later on) - the problem, however, is that whenever there's a light, any kind of light, shining upon the drawn-on piece, it gives this shiny, reddish look to the drawn-on bits, instead of them remaining black. So I would like to know what the more experienced customizers use for things like that - minifig faces, custom torso & legs, etc. - and how they manage to create a clean LEGO-like look. Or, if anyone perhaps happens to know about a permanent marker (or something similar to one) that would not become the victim of a shiny, reddish glow when used on a LEGO piece (which would then be faced towards a light source), then I'd like to know. Any other tips for clean paint jobs would be welcome, same for any other customization tips that would help me with any of this! Thank you for your time.

  20. Greetings! I opened up LDD recently after a while of not using it, and I'm not sure if this is because of an update or not, but here goes. When I select a brick from the palette in Extended Mode, a window pops up and you choose between the colors that piece has been produced in, no others. Then, when I go to select multiple bricks to repaint, I can't do it. Clicking on the paint tool removes the selection. The only way the paint tool is currently working for me is to click on each piece manually and recolor it, again only in a color that's been produced. As a majority IRL moccer who mostly uses LDD for the infinite color/piece feature, I'd really love some help here, and I didn't see anybody who'd had the same problem. Thanks!

    Dyeing Basics...?

Are there any useful guides / guidelines regarding dyeing LEGO parts? In particular Minifigure parts? Any products to avoid? Any methods better than others? Thanks!
  22. While looking over the parts list that would be required to build my Space Police I T.A.R.D.I.S., I realized that, although most of the parts exist/ed in the colors I used, there were two that do not. http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=60601 - Glass for Window 1x2x2 Flat Gront, I need 8 of them in Trans-Red. http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=43888 - Support 1 x 1 x 6 Solid Pillar, I need 3 of them in Blue. I was wondering if anyone could perhaps tell me what the best paint/dye for each of them would be, and what would be the best color to buy the parts that will be dyed in*? I want the window to stay transparent, even after having been painted/dyed. Reference Image: Thanks in advance! *I imagine that the best color for the window would probably be Trans-Clear and the Pillar White?
  23. There once was a time when I attempted to make painted custom minifigures. I now regret those attempts and have moved on to decaling. So... Does anyone have any tips on removing acrylic paint?

    Custom Xmen

Ive found some spare lego figs and Ive brought the 2 xmen sets out at the moment, but over them you only get a hand full of mutants. I know I can buy custom ones via online auctions places, but they are abit pricey so Ive decided to make my own figures of characters I dont think they will bring out. Im doing; Harada Mariko Yukio Silver Samurai Warpath Blink Viper Also brought a Lex Luthor fig so that can be Prof X. using an invisi block and a grey chair. Anyone got any tips for using paint on lego? I might put pics up if im able to, but, im not an expert painter and Id say im quite bad so. So they may suck. Ive done Yukio's sword (Basing the fig from the wolverine) which im almost happy with. If anyones interested, drop a message in :)
