    MOC: Lawyers and Snack Bar

Great work Cimddwc! I really like your MOCS! There are beautifull details (I like the way you put some studs on fronts of your building). And whenyou put all them together, we have someting very beautifull! It makes me want to be a minifig to walk around, to discover the street, to go to the other side trough a small road... The fact that you have made your street sloped bring a great feeling to this layout! And even if the interiors are small, you have put a lot of detaails and furnitures in them, great! Your street is full of life! The only minor thing is that we see the strucure of the street in the pics... Maybe use a piece of grey paper to hide this, just to have a "cleaner" view of this piece of beauty!

    MOC : yellow modular building

Thanks for your comments ! One aspect that I have missed to write about this house is the different shade of yellow. I used some old and new pieces and it appears that there is a lot of shade (more or less green, orange, solid, translucent…). You can’t see it clearly with pictures, but in real, it is obvious! But I try to find the same shade for the street font. It’s not as important for the other fonts, especially for the side which be hidden by other modular buildings.
  3. Bonjour! Un cousin de l'autre côté de l'atlantique!

    Do you speek french? Anyway...

Thanks for your comment about my modular building.

Have you a brickshelf gallery or something like that to see your houses?

    Our Zorro (Dieter) passing away

Even if I didn't know Dieter very well, I was shocked about this sad news. I remembered seeing him at the 2009 Event... Leaving so young... A thought to his familly and all the people he left behind.

    WIP: Alex54's

Hey ! I decided to open a new topic to present my latest City project for my layout to keep my “city story” topic cleaner. After a long time, I have finally taken some pics of my latest creation. Those last months, I didn’t have that much time to moc. And didn’t have some inspiration too… But the event has come and I’ve got the Grand Emporium… So now, the motivation is back so I find some time for my beloved LEGO bricks! So let’s go with 3 models. I have to admit that they don’t come from me. They are some modified versions of official sets. - First, the smart car 3177: I really find this set cute! For me, it is one of the best city set from the first wave of 2010! So I tried to add more details without making it looking too different. I just add some rear-view mirrors. I added some red lights to the back and a glass to make it closed. - Second, the Rockband bus: I find this bus really funny, so I tried to build it with the official instruction. But the rear with the crazy motor didn’t make me really happy, because I would have prefer a more realistic version than a Mario kartish version. So I tried some different things and come with that. But I’m not totally satisfied… My major problem with this bus is that I miss some white slopes to finish it. I only have one in black ( I have put my hope too high in the PaB from Legoland Billund at the 2010 event, and nothing… ). - And third for today, my first try to make smaller the new Grand Emporium: I have kept the general architecture of this building. The major modification is the cornered section processing. I would like it to look like one tower without interruptions from the different levels, except the balcony. And to accomplish this tower effect, I need to make a special roof section. I would like to add a dome on the top. I have tried some things this WE, but without any success… I need to try a full brick build one, like in the Taj Mahal set but it seems not that easy to come with something great… I need to try…

    WIP: Alex54's

Thanks for the comments! It's the first time I use some anti-studs. And it can bring some nice details, adding some textures. For the front mirrors, I use this brick : And for the back window, I use : This Smart car is one of the best city set from years imo. In a small set, with just few pieces, you have a tiny car which can be better with just few modifications. What more can we expect with such a small set?!

So, just a quick post to show a pic of my latest modified moc, based on this : It’s an old prison from my city that is called “porte de la Craffe” (Craffe door). I don’t know why, but I have always like this building… My first try to make it in a brick build version was that (we were in 2007) : But I wasn’t quite happy with the result. So, as always, I have modified it, slowly and come with this : Just keep in mind I don’t try to make the most realist version of the real building. I have to integrate some constraints like the size of the whole building. It has to feet with my other creations. So I have to make some compromises with details. The biggest thing that I would like to change is the light grey parts from the first floor. I would prefer dark red parts…

    A re-introduction to the Community,

Hey ! I have to admit that I’m a bit late, reading this topic… Ok, I’m VERY late… I’m glad to see you again and have some news from you! I’m very happy for you if you have succeeded in working as graphic designer for TLC! Congratulation! I sincerely wish you the best with this new life! Even if your new mocs are not as well presented as your Wild West are, I’m very curious to see what you come with during all this time…
  11. Set ref: 7625 Name: River Chase Number of minifigs: 4 Number of pieces: unknown Price: 22,90€ A general view of the set: We’ve got an amphibious vehicle, a small boat, an observation post and a dark green croco (so beautiful! ). For the figs, we’ve got Indy of course, Marion and two Russian soldiers, nothing special here. In the back of the tree, there is a box, to put some things: The amphibious vehicle is very nice! The proportions are really great (not too big, not too small) and there are a lot of details everywhere, like the propeller: A back view: An inside view: The small boat is a dark grey Zodiac, but the details are nice too, giving it a retro look, in the same way of all the Indy vehicles: The outpost has a net to permit to the bad guys to capture some nice guys and girls… But it seems that the girl Marion is scared of the nice croco! So Indy comes and help her pushing the Technic axle with this round inversed tiles, which push out the net and capture the croco. Now Marion feels happier! And she takes a can of oil and whacks the poor croco, without defences! Who has said Marion is a nice girl? So, I’ve bought this set like an add on to my city. In fact, the elements of this set can easily be integrated in a town layout. I plan to use the outpost for my forest section, and the amphibious vehicle is always a nice touch of originality in a layout. Yes you can use all those military things without creating an army in a layout: just put the violent parts out, and you’ve got nice things, like a biologist car in the case of the amphibious vehicle!
  12. I didn’t' see why TLC made such a change until today... I've got the illumination when I woke up this morning, with this new arch piece in mind. So, the first thing I made was to try… And I was right! I discover why this change! It’s not to save some plastics or to make the piece stronger, but to maximize the compatibility between pieces. Don’t you see now? So I will tell you… Now, you can complete the hole, just have a look here : You can’t make the same with the old arch, there were no pieces that can complete the hole : That part aside, thanks for this review Hinkley! Great pictures, as always, from you! This set is really great, with all those nice Egyptian minifigs! I just hope that we will see the Anubis headpiece in a smaller set… I need to save some money in 2011! I’m really pleased to see a set with a decent pyramid looking building!

    1463 treasure cart

It’s time for me to review my smaller Classic Castle set : Name : Treasure cart Ref : 1463 Number of pieces : 21 Year : 1992 Let’s start with the official picture of the set : Sorry, there is no pic of the instruction booklet, because I have lost it… But that don’t prevent me building this little set just looking at the official picture! It’s not that hard to put together in the good way those few pieces : Here a closer look to the minifig : It was a little strange that TLC released this set with this old Lion Knight faction in 1992. In fact, in the regular line, we had Blue Dragon and Green Dragon factions… So, this poor little soldier was vey alone, the last representative of his kingdom! Now, some pics from the front and the back of the whole set : It’s a nice little cart, with weapons and shield to protect it from thieves. But transporting this treasure is not a quiet job! SO, sometimes, you need to nap : Now it’s time to continue our long travel, so just put the treasure on the cart again… And… Oh, damned! What do I made?! As you can see, the treasure is made from gemstones. The Classic Castle line in general was only interested in gemstones, and let golden treasure to their f Pirates friends. So, this set is quite simple and good. With only few pieces, you’ve got weapons, a little cart and a treasure full of gemstones! And last but not least, the last “old Lion” soldier!
  14. So here we go. It’s time for me to make the review of my very first LEGO Castle set. Name : knight’s arsenal Ref : 6016 Year : 1987 Pieces : 36 The booklet is a small sheet of paper that you fold. Here the first “page” that shows the official model and a picture of an alternative model, a thing that we don’t have at all those days… A random “page” of the building instruction : The number of pieces to put together at each step is clearly more important than today. For such a small set, nowadays, we will have a booklet of about 15 pages! Here a picture of all of the pieces of the set. I just miss one piece, the blue plastic cap… Ho well, that’s not that bad for an old set which has lived a lot of things during its toy life! A closer look to the minifig, our proud knight, with some scares of the time… Now, have a look at the arsenal of this set : a shield, a spear, two swords and two hatchets. What a great number of weapons in such a small set! Now a picture of the whole cart, without the knight but with the “non so with” horse : A closer look to the area where you can store the weapons. There is not so many space, but it’s enough for your arsenal, as you can see here : And finally, a picture of the complete set : Finally, this set has nothing really special, but it’s a great small sets. With just few pieces, you can carry your arsenal. The selection of pieces is simple but great enough. The look of the cart is a little bit strange with the use of the flexible hoses. They bring a “modern” touch and also a funny aspect during the building process. In fact, you can play with those flexible parts a lot! Just put one hose in my hand, and I twist it in all directions for hours! I don’t know if such carts have existed during the middle age, but I don’t image them like that. So, in conclusion, this set plays its role entirely : it’s a good little set, with nothing extra, but with nothing bad too! Nothing much to expect for such a small set.

    REVIEW: 4840 The Burrow

I prefer the old version too, but the new one can be usfull for adding some details. If you put those two arcs one side to the other in a 2 stud wide wall, the difference of radius can be interested. I will do it, now that I've got internet access again, after one week without it... (problem with my connection...).

    REVIEW: 4840 The Burrow

I have received my copy of this great set yesterday and built it asap! But I have to admit that my pleasure during the building porcess had one big issue that had never happened to me before... It was the first time that I can't connect a LEGO brick to another one! My set has 2 2x3 dark red slopes that are very hard to clic on other pieces if there is another piece aside. Pictures are better than words in this case : As you can see, there is a very important space between those two solpes. The left one is allright but not the ight one. On one side, you have this free space, with doesn't look good. But if you try to put a brick on the other side, you can't! it's like there is a small translation of the piece, that can be verified by a quick look at its back : As you can see, I have made two colored round at each side, and one of them go "out" of the piece, showing that this side is thiner than the other. All the inside of the piece has translated... So, after a closer look at my 2x3 dark red bricks, it seems that the bricks with number 2 22, 4 22, 6 22 and 8 22 are bad molded (I've got one of each in my Burrow set). I also have got 1 22, 5 22 and two 7 22. The pieces with odd numer don't have this problem... What a shame! In general, I have a very bat feeling about the quality of the pieces of this set... Another strange thing comes from a 1x6 tan arch... It seems that TLC has made a new mold for it... On top, the old classic one, on bottom, the new one... Nothing more to say...

    REVIEW: 4840 The Burrow

What a great review Clone O’Patra! I have a good time in reading it! You like this set, and we know it. You really give me envy to have it! I have ordered mine before your review, but now, I can’t wait the next week to receive it! Like you said, it looks more like a dollhouse than an action set. And just for that, I want to thank TLC! I mean, those more “realistic” sets are missing a lot for me. I know that TLC target ars kids, who want actions and actions! But as a child, I didn’t care about the action aspect. And sets from the 90’s weren’t so action oriented, which was good for me. I have always preferred some “quite” sets with nice display details than more unrealistic sets due to the integration of action features. If you have to pick just one HP set, take this one! The selection of minifigures is really great! And all of the new hairpieces are gathered in this set! What can we expect more? This set is also good for city mocers with the selection of pieces and accessories like dark red roof slopes, a pig (it’s so cute, we can’t have enought of them!), stoves, glasses, cup, a kitchen area… The design of this set is really outstanding! I mean, it is made with a mix of pieces and colors. But the result is coherent. The general design is really great. I don’t have seen the HP movies in which we can the Burrow, but looking at that set, it is similar to what I have imagined. At the beginning it was certainly a small house. But with all those children, the Weasley used their magic to create some new rooms, using what they had on hand. Reading the books, you really want to spend your holidays in this Burrow, playing all day long with Ron and the other Weasley brothers, eat the cooking of Ma W, listening to Pa W stories! In the books, the burrow is really family, rustic and cosy too. And this set perfectly express this sweet feeling!

    WIP: Alex54's

Well, black is with white, the color that I have the more... So I need to use some of those b&w bricks to save some space in my closet... Sometimes you take some rational choice before aesthetic one! So, with free time due to the very bad weather, I have continued my work on the 8-wide building. And I came with that : I missed some white teethes, and the top floor with roof is not already made…

    WIP: Alex54's

So, after some tries, I came with nothing in my atempt to give my smaller Grand Emporium a neighbor. I realized that imagine a building from the beginning to the end becomes very hard for me. Now, I prefer to have some inspirations from real buildings. And without making them in a lego bricks version, I like to keep just a part, a strong architectural way and try to capture it. For this neighbor, I only have 8 studs wide. What a constraint, I know! But with them, you have a challenge and it can result some interesting things, if they are not the most beautiful. So, I checked my bank of pictures and found this one : I just bought the 8078 Portal of Atlantis, just for the squid warrior first… And I convinced myself that it would be a not that bad part packs . And I was right! I have those black pieces that can be used to make the glass section. So I came up with this : Just note that the first and second floor was from my last project before this new one. A closer view of the “thing” : I know that this building will not be the more beautiful in term of aesthetic, but I like this idea! I will let you know of the progress…

    My city story

Thanks! Yes I just have small areas to capture the atmosphere of my interiors... It's not that easy but I like challenges!
  21. Maybe you're right, but I have to admit that this set doesn't look realy religious for me. Maybe it's due to my lake of religious culture... A new watering can would be great in fact! We've got the Fabuland one, mut it's too big for standard minifigs IMO. And a single flower, for the lovers...

    MOC LEGO Rockband bus

Well ! I think that there is a big misunderstanding about this minibus. I don’t deserve all the compliments about how it is well made or not. Like I said, I just mod the back of the minibus and add some interiors. But the base of “my work” is the official Rockband bus frome the LEGO videogame. You can have a preview here : and download the official instruction here Like I said, I dislike the “Mario kart” look, with the big engine and the bigger wheels at the back. I just try to make it more real and not necessarily realistic. It is not a reproduction of what can be seen as the real minivan, as shown in my first picture in the first page. Those pictures were just to show the base of work for the LEGO designer of this minivan (not me!). After that, maybe 2 studs longer will make the proportion of this minivan better. It’s a good idea to improve it. For the wheels, maybe they are too large. I have though about it today, Captain Blue Hair. It’s really easy to use some smaller wheels for the car itself, but for the front, this kind of wheel is the only one that can be attached by a technic pin. And the not so large wheels seem too thick, as far as I can remember. But it’s another way to improve this building. KielDaMan, the minivan I have already seen in the street had indifferently white or bodywork colour, for standard roof. And in the picture, the roof is white because it’s a raised one I think. The grey parts on roof are here to carry some luggage (I don’t know how to call that…). It can be fun to integrate a roof bag on it, of course! So, even if I don’t deserve all the compliments, thanks for all those constructive comments. I will try to mod it as said, and will post some pictures later. And WhiteFang, I know that I don’t take the time to post a lot here… I will try to make some effort, not only for you, but because it missed myself! Thanks to blog it!
  23. I think it will be too regligious oriented to be produce... I hope too! I don't already have the serie 2 that I'm impatient to see what serie 3 will offer us! We just have to be patient...

MOC: 2010 Lego City Hospital CC style

What a great moc! I really like the architecture of this hospital! It's like in real, an hospital was in an old building. And with time, space lakes, so we add some new parts here and there, using the actual way of building. Finally, you've got a patchwork of style. And you've capture that very well! The fact that you have used some hinge bricks add a lot in term of playability but also in how you want your hospital looks like. And I really like this idea! A good use of the classic caste concept applied to city! You’ve put some great details in the greek area, less in the other area, which is very good. And the modern emergency entrance, great! The only thing that I don’t like that much (take this minor critic as a constructive one ) is the angel statue. The way the wings are made don’t convince me that much… I can’t conclude without a word about how you have made the interior! What a great idea too! It looks like some vigs that you can put inside, with some outstanding details! Definitively, in your hospital, we are in good hands!
