  1. Hello, I'm starting a little contest on Mecabricks where you could win set 75901 - Scooby-Doo Mystery Plane Adventures. For that, you need to build an alternative digital model with the parts contained in set 75901. I made a template on Mecabricks that contains all the bricks that you could use. Simply open it in the workshop and start building. Entries shall be received before 31 October 2015 to be considered. For more information check this page. Thanks to Superkalle for allowing me to announce the contest on eurobricks.
  2. Hello, So I bought the scanner from matterandform. They seem to have a good support and communication channel. Besides, I wanted a native solution for Macos. For everything else, I use Blender. This free tool is awesome and passed the frustration of the interface, it is a pleasure to use. A week ago I did not know anything about sculpting or retopology. Simpson head pieces would probably work fine but I don't own any myself.
  3. Sort of Models are built in Mecabricks which is a browser based application - mecabricks.com - and exported in one click to an open format (Collada in this case but I also created OBJ and STL exporters). Parts are not coming from LDD or LDraw but from a third system that I created.
  4. Another example of what you can easily achieve with mecabricks and Blender: Enzo Ferrari by Nicolas Jarraud, on Flickr To check the 3D model: http://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/yr121M142lB
  5. My latest rendering using the template: Benny's Spaceship by Nicolas Jarraud, on Flickr If you feel more like an artist, here is what you could do with it. This has been made by Zanna after mocs built on mecabricks by Stanislav94
  6. It is actually the case... Left mouse to rotate Middle button or scrollwheel to zoom Right button to pan U/D/R/L Arrows of the keyboard to rotate parts 45 degrees around Y or X.
  7. Hello, For now Mecabricks uses a different approach to snap parts and achieve complex builds. You can check this video tutorial to have a quick overview of what you can do. Regarding the officiel lego sets, like legolijnjte said, there is a special page on mecabricks where you can search by themes/subthemes (brickset names) and by years.
  8. A new version 1.01 is available for download. It prevents Blender from crashing when run on Windows.
  9. Blender doesn't know which colour you want to delete so probably no. the reason why I don't have a transparent background is that I did not manage to write a shader (in the workshop not Blender) that works properly with transparent materials.
  10. Here is the solution I prefer, however you need to alter the texture to make it transparent where you want to have the emission material to be. In the example of yoda's head, delete the green color. Node setup: Milky material (or your emission shader) will only be visible in the area you deleted on the texture. The decoration will be rendered with the solid material.
  11. Heuu.... Make photorealistic renderings is a full time job so I guess having only a couple of buttons to press to get a result which is from my point of view much better/faster than povray with free software is already a good start ;-) I agree with you regarding the interface of blender which is not that simple when you open it at first though. If you try to follow the 8 min tutorial, I'm sure you'll see that it is not that hard. At normal speed it doesn't take me more than a couple of minutes to export, set the scene and click the render button.
  12. Nice! (There are a couple of images that don't appear in your post) Maybe you already know but in Blender Cycles you have an emission shader available (that you can mix with others). So basically any object can become a light source.
  13. I agree, it would look cool! I think it's the same yes. I don't remember changing anything.
  14. Yes, I didn't include any for the public version as I don't have the rights to distribute these HDR images. So I prefer to give the links. You can just put one in the template folder, open it and save the template. Like that no need to redo it every time
  15. Hello everybody, I added a new section to the Mecabricks gallery for people to display their renderings: http://www.mecabricks.com/en/library/renderings I also provide a template for Blender to easily make photorealistic images. It does include all necessary resources and a video tutorial. [link]
  16. I really like what you can do with the panoramic scene. I didn't think about it before. Well done!
  17. Hehe, it's never too late to switch lol
  18. Cheers It's always appreciated and motivating to have good comments
  19. Hello, OBJ is a pretty average format and when the number of vertices is too big, the browser is not that happy... I guess I could try to improve the exporter a bit. I would definitely recommend the Collada format with "Group by Geometry" option (or Group by Geometry and Colour"). Geometry for a same brick is only exported once which results in much smaller file as well as short processing time. However I don't know if you can load that in the Unreal Engine. Materials (very basic) are supposed to be exported for all models in OBJ or Collada. I never heard about issues so far. Not too sure where it comes from... What do you mean by "lose all smooth groups"?
  20. Yep, I can not PM you either. You can go on mecabricks and click the "contact us" link at the bottom to send me an email if you wish.
  21. Hello, Are there any experienced Blender users, knowing a bit about Mecabricks and willing to try my package to easily render Mecabricks models? I made a simple trial package including a screencast and a simple "How To" file. It is only temporary before I release the proper files and tutorials but I'd be interested to have a few feedbacks before. Sent me a private message if you are interested. Cheers
  22. Yep, soon soon! Probably some time next week. I finally finished to write the script to automatically replace the materials. I'm currently coding a new model display page for the website where there will be the possibility to display and upload renderings. When this page will be finished, I will make a tutorial on how to render mecabricks models with my Blender file that will be released in the same time. Here is my plan ;-)
  23. Hello, Which export format do you choose? I know that for big models, it is a lot to ask to the STL and OBJ exporters. It also happened to me that it crashed. You shall try the Collada exporter and choose the option "Group by Geometry" if you use Blender. It is much faster, produces much smaller files and is a lot easier to handle - position and rotation are retained and same geometry is shared parts. Alternatively if you use a software that cannot mix a same geometry with different type of materials like Modo, you can choose "Group by geometry and colour".
  24. Hehe, it shall come soon! I finally got motivated to learn python for Blender, and I started to write a script that automatically replaces the materials exported from mecabricks by my custom shaders. It shall be very easy to get nice rendering. I'm still a newbie in rendering with Blender. I only got interested in Cycles a few months ago
  25. Hello, I actually don't own any of those parts yet so it makes it a bit harder to model. However ultimately the answer is yes.
