He's there in all the groups, but oddly he hasn't been replying to my tags. Maybe he's not active anymore? Perhaps I should message him.

    [MOC] 6277 Merchant cutter reimagined

The sail plan and masts are a direct lift from the official instructions in 6277 and can be made by following the instructions there. Only the hull is custom. No other mods needed! As for replica sails, as you know, there are many options on the aftermarket. I've used Tim Begovic's sails myself. When I get some time I'll make updated masts with new pieces, the main problem is the mast height of the new masts is not the same as the old ones, I'll need to do some real life prototyping to see what works best with the sails. Thank you @PxChris and @Supersick_ for your kind words and encouragement.
  3. Honestly, looking at the great response the old classic pirates poster got on the Facebook group, some nice pictures out of @VaneStream's diorama would work really well as nostalgia fuelled wallpapers...

I am proud to announce that I've completed the instructions and they're awaiting rebrickable approval!

Hahaha classic. It's like the scene in POTC where they load the cannons with forks and spoons. And, nice ship by the way!

You could certainly use a cabbage instead of a cannonball Thank you!

This makes total sense too. While the big mast pieces are pretty durable the thinner ones (like lances etc.) Do tend to bend or break.

    That sounds sensible! Thank you!

Ok, I have a question, not just to you but everyone on here... Since I've never tried this. The MOC contains many parts that are no longer in production (particularly the masts), so if I do instructions, should I look to replace those with modern equivalents? I understand that most people who do MOC instructions have to try to make sure that the parts are easy to bricklink. I used the old style masts because I had them already and kept things faithful. And the reverse situation... I may re-do the stern with this piece, which is still relatively new and was not available to me when I made the ship. https://rebrickable.com/parts/67810/brick-curved-2-x-2-x-1-13-with-curved-top-corner/15/

Thanks again! I figured I live by the sea, might as well make full use... And your posts did impact this decision too! I could do instructions... I'm not THAT good at stud.io but this is a small build. It should be easy. Is it worth the trouble though?

Sure, I'll see to it this week. I can even do a build breakdown like tips and bricks does, because the bow was tricky to get right (nothing the experts here would be unfamiliar with, but still!)

I scored my copy of POBB out of Poland off BL for just about 180 USD without the box. Was very lucky to have got it as it was never launched in India.

New Rumored Pirate Set in July 2023

As I said, this is totally anecdotal, based off what I've been reading on various FB groups. I even recall seeing that the set would retire as early as the end of this year. We know they do reissue a number of sets if they're doing well (VW camper, mini Cooper, Saturn V, Taj Mahal all got reissued) so if a set is really doing well they would hardly discontinue it as quickly as they did with POBB. I suppose it's too hard to really judge without seeing actual sales figures... (online sales vs offline sales, plus country/regions all make a difference)

New Rumored Pirate Set in July 2023

The consensus on sundry FB groups (based on what I've been reading, so this is totally anecdotal) seems to be that the set isn't selling well. That's why it was on discount relatively quickly after initial launch.

You may have a point. I bought POBB as soon as I was able to (not an easy feat in my home country, trust me) bbut somehow can't bring myself to fork over money for a GE though it's less than half the price and is a nice set (I got the Benny's space squad and that seems adequate to me). The people who grew up playing with the original classic space sets are now likely in their 50s Or 60s whereas LEGO's 80s-90s peak probably drives its current biggest fan base: Millennials. And we want castle, pirates and maybe some blacktron/m-tron and not classic space.

I have a feeling that they discontinued POBB because... It didn't sell well. I think even the Galaxy Explorer (arguably the space equivalent of POBB) is currently facing the same problem and that's why it'll be retiring soon. The sad reality is, the unlicensed themes (whose core audience is us) simply don't seem to do as well as SW, HP, etc. or even speed champions. You vote with your wallet (see what they're saying about the Rivendell set... More LOTR will come only if this sells well) and the rapid expansion in the sheer variety of sets means people's budgets are spread too thin, and away from the core unlicensed themes we all grew up with.

Super hyped for whatever this is. I too, don't see the sense in re releasing POBB. I'm hoping for something along the same lines as the Lion Knight castle, but for pirates. I don't see it being a ship either. They've already done ships. I know the bluecoats didn't get a big ship but an El Dorado or Port Royal reimagining would be a lot more fun than any ship at this point. At least to me.

  23. Hi guys, I got this set as a gift from my grandfather as a child, and recently saw another builder (Michal Kozlowski) do an updated version of this set and felt inspired by him, so I gave it a go myself. 24. Thank you for the correction, I actually realised it after posting but didn't get around to rectifying it till just now. I posted it correctly on the Facebook groups, but I made the mistake of relying on my memory while posting it here. You're right about the base. In my defence, this was almost a speed build, put together between 5 am and 8 am (shoot time included).
