Canberra Brick Expo 2011
Captain Zuloo replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
We have quite a variety of displays this year, and a very big room full of them. While some people may find a couple of hours enough to look at everything, others may not. A real AFOL will spend hours looking at one MOC and talking to the person who built it - let alone getting through an entire exhibition in that time! -
Thanks a bunch. Looking forward to seeing you at Brick Expo. :)

That's the spirit! Looking forward to seeing you there. :) -
In what way mmcb? Any feedback on how we can make exhibitor communication better is much appreciated!

Canberra Brick Expo 2011
Captain Zuloo replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
There are several AFOLs from around the country who are displaying MOCs and layouts for people to see. We also have vendors Bricks to the World and Little Sprout coming to sell official LEGO sets, both recent and rare. -
Canberra Brick Expo 2011
Captain Zuloo replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
We're almost finished the acceptance letters/expo info packs which you'll be recieving soon - in them you'll find that exhibitors get into the VIP night free - and why shouldn't they, Brick Expo is all about the exhibitors! -
Is the Brick Show going to be a fan day and a public day like Brickvention or will it be mostly public like Brick Expo? Well let's face it - that's the only reason people attend these events anyway.

Canberra Brick Expo 2011
Captain Zuloo replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Yeah, applications are almost done. You'll be hearing from us in the next few days. I'm very much looking forward to the VIP Cocktail Party, we were indeed lucky to get such a presentation lineup for this event. -
Wow, most unfair statement ever! I think that both Brickvention and Brick Expo are more than "real Lego action downunder".

What an outstanding review KimT, you've shown the set in an excellent light. While I don't have any money in the LEGO kitty at the moment, I'm going to have to raise some dollars to buy one (or two) of these sets. On a side note, how does the train go around curves and points? Not that it's hugely long, but does it struggle in any way? How about points? All in all a great review of a great set! Thanks KimT!

I get where you're coming from Croissant, but if you check out the Star Wars photography thread that this thread is based on, it's for more artistic shots using LEGO (mostly figs) as a photographic medium. I personally think it's a great idea. :)

Really neat layout, cool enough to get me to go to the effort of signing in and making a post, something I've not done in a while. :) The video you shared was particularly interesting. Straight curves look fantastic. Myself and some others were considering a straight curve layout for Canberra Brick Expo 2011 - seeing this has just convinced me that it's a good idea. Only thing I'm still unsure about with your setup is the train's ability to navigate corners, it seems to slow almost to a stop. Is there any particular reason for this? Could you put some more motors in the train? Anyway, great work, and thanks heaps for sharing with us! P.S. A big hello again to TheBrickster and everyone else behind Train Tech, it has been a while.

No real point giving you lots of feedback on an axed MOC, but you may be interested in my Pacific National train. It's an NR loco, so a different class, but it might help in some way anyhow. Check it out: Flickr Link The only thing I'd suggest for your next train, is go 6-wide rather than 8. It will be strange if your trains are that big considering the smallish nature of the rest on New Mannum.

Excellent work! I'm very impressed with the Metroliner one, it would look great on the side of a bus stop or in a train station. I do hope you do more if you can find the time! @Murdoch17, these posters really only work because of how iconic these trains are - I'm not sure how successfuly those LDD renders would convert into art-deco artwork.

I understand that you're looking for a good train show to attend - but this really is a rediculous question. While people can give their opinions, what exactly defines one show as being better than another? It's purely opinion based, so no-one can give you a worth while answer. There are plenty of LEGO events and train shows around the place - pick one to go to in 2011, and go to a different one in 2012. There'll always be a good event happening, but I can't really accept that there is one any better than another.

My entry, entitled: "A chip off the old block" (The coaster is four colours: red, blue, green and yellow. The Brick Expo logo.)

Good stuff Taz, representing down under well. I would have thought worth a frontpage Capt. Blackmoor?

Rick! Great work man, this looks absolutely tops. The ships look so good on their own, but as soon as they're put into a nice LEGO-ey battle field environment, they look even better. Clever touches with the Spongebob and Patrick. You're right, kids do love quirky details like that - my layout is pretty much built around them. You did really well, water colours are great too. I hope you enjoyed the weekend, LEGO shows are always heaps of fun. On a side note, get on MSN mate! Cheers, Connor.

Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)
Captain Zuloo replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Fingers crossed that we hear about this soon, price speculation is only ever speculation. Good set this one, TLG did well. I'm finding it surprising that we've gotten our two AFOL train sets in such a short timeframe. I have my doubts that we'll see another AFOL train for a few years now, but to be honest I'm happy. The two sets are great. A shame that this doesn't come with one extra car, two kinda seems a little short for a cargo train. But perhaps I'm just being a pain. Well done LEGO! I'd be curious to see who designed it...- 379 replies

Hey Dieter, Disappointed to hear this news...well, not that it's your fault or anything. But it is a shame indeed, you were great company and you added a huge amount to this forum as a whole, and certainly to my personal forum experience. You joined up in the Shipyard and I trained you for blog work, but talking on MSN/email etc. we became quite good friends. We raced to...was it 1000?...posts, and both got slapped on the wrist by the higher up staff for making pointless posts. Haha, I remeber reading that you were a loose cannon somewhere...now look what happened and how the tables turned. xD You really added to this forum, and no doubt to your local society as well. No-one ever said anything bad about you - well not that I read anyway. =P I don't know what you believe happens now, but I hope it's working out well for you. Good work as a pirate Zorro, and even better work as a person. You were a great friend, mentor and colleague. Ye may not survive to pass this way again, and these be the last friendly words ye'll hear! I'll see you on the other side mate. ;) Yours in appreciation, Connor

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Captain Zuloo replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Big thanks! Pictures are always great when it comes to unreleased sets. xD To be honest though, I'm not to fussed by what's there...the mill looks alright, but the others look like a classic big price tag for small part count. Although if anyone is in need of new brown, this is the theme! Still would have liked the yellows to continue, but it's good that LEGO is still producing some form of pirates in their absence. -
Not quite, the Dark Shark was indeed a name given to the BSB in some countries. No, you didn't. I'm surprised you guys haven't found this already, but in my time at Classic-Pirates.com I created a page with this information on it, with the set inventory, instructions etc. The names on this page: Dark Shark (England) Vascello dei pirati (Italy) Barracuda de la Mer Noire (Canada) Piratenbrigantine (Germany) Requin Noir (France) De Zeeschuimer (Netherlands) Have a look: http://www.classic-pirates.com/sets/6285-black-seas-barracuda

Me too - I'm looking forward to seeing an epic Zuloo vs. Croissant battle. Hehe, camera vs croissant, which wins?
