  1. Now that the update's available, can someone confirm it works with the home edition? The press release referred specifically to "Lego Mindstorms Education EV3". I couldn't see a reason why it wouldn't work with the home edition, but then Mindstorms isn't my specialist subject!

    Which set should I buy?

    Restaurant, 100%. It's an instant classic. :)

    10243 Parisian Restaurant

Mine just arrived — I didn't get a dispatch notification either. The receipt email arrived a few minutes after the set. Looking forward to starting the build when I get home!
  4. I'm so amused by how many of us have our modulars displayed on Expedit shelves! I was thinking about getting another 4x2 Expedit and using the two of them back to back as a room divider but I don't think I could make that work in my space.

    Bricklinking Modular Buildings

They're available on Bricklink from about 70¢/43p (in the EU at least). http://www.bricklink...asp?P=2431pb043 (click "Lots for Sale> Reddish Brown")

Getting the pieces for Lego 10190 Market Street

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but it seemed like the most appropriate one. I'm starting to build MS from scratch (having done CC a couple of years ago) and I need to put a parts order in while the dark blue arches are in stock with the spare parts service. Is there anything else I should pick up directly from Lego at the same time before I start on the Bricklink orders?
  7. Mine sits on the top of a 4-wide, 2-tall IKEA Expedit shelf in my living room. I'm a few modulars behind but I have a PR on the way. I've yet to figure out where the heck that's going to go!
  8. I spotted Cafe Corner in the Bluewater Lego shop soon after it was released, thought 'Wow. That's amazing - look at the way they've used those pieces.' then thought 'I'm too old for Lego'. I saw the light a year or two later and just missed being able to get Cafe Corner. I did manage to get the Green Grocer, which is also brilliant, and I have plans to get Grand Emporium and the Pet Shop (not too bothered about the Fire Station or Market Street). Needless to say, I still really want Cafe Corner but there's no way I can afford the £350-£400 price tag of the full set (at least not in one go). Therefore I've been looking at getting all the parts separately. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on this. I've got my wanted list sorted out and I will be doing a spreadsheet to keep track of it all. I'm particularly interested to know which parts of it are the most difficult to get hold of and whether you had to do colour replacements for anything. Also, if any of you have done it before, how much did it end up costing you? Thanks Becks (off to build the camper van now - excited!)
  9. 3L bar pieces with a printed 'flag' piece would work for me.
  10. I want the grandma to have knitting, but that's just so I could have a proper minifig-me!

    Building Cafe Corner via Bricklink

I'm also starting to BL Market Street, so dark blue arches coming back into production will be a huge help for me! :) Hopefully they should become available through the replacement parts service, at least for a while.

    Official Lego Movie

So pleased to see that it's 'suitable for AFOL'. Looks like one I'll be looking forward to.
  13. I also seem to have issues with headlight bricks, also mostly on the back. When I rebuilt my modulars after moving house I noticed loads of them, which is really disappointing. Lego customer service got back to me really quickly and asked me to send them pictures of the problem and which replacement bricks I needed.
  14. Series 10 was out at Toys R Us, Plymouth UK today. Hopefully other UK stores will get them soon!

New here - question about modular buildings

Welcome! I'm a modular collector, currently with CC, GG, FB, GE and PS. CC was built via Bricklink as it had been discontinued before I was ready to buy it — you can find out more about mine and other people's Bricklinked modulars on this thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=60958&hl= It was certainly cheaper than buying a boxed set, although I did substitute some of the rarer bricks, and it's the route I'll be going down to build Market Street eventually. As for the prices, the modulars are usually a sort of "Lego Exclusive" (at least in the UK anyway) ie. you can't buy them in general toy shops, only from Lego Stores or Lego.com. Any which make their way onto Amazon or eBay tend to be overpriced, possibly because the trader assumes people might not know where else to get them from. Definitely start with what's still 'current' eg. Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, Town Hall and Palace Cinema and consider Bricklinking the rest. Pet Shop is a great set — loads of details to keep you amused!

    Duplo Pulp Fiction

This just got a massive laugh from me. They're awesome!

    Modular Building 10232 Palace Cinema

Hmm, bit disappointed with this one, if I'm honest. I don't think the style will work that well with the rest of the modulars—the others, while different enough to be unique, still blend in together nicely—this one sticks out like a sore thumb. A 1920's style cinema would have suited it better. In any case, I'll be interested to see the official photos and the interior.

    What did you buy today?

Just back from the Lego Store with: 10218 Pet Shop 10230 Mini Modulars and the seven CMFs I wanted (thanks to the staff for feeling packets with me - it saved a lot of time!): Chicken Suit Guy Policeman Skater Plumber Judge Movie Star Waiter (took us ages to find this one!)
  19. The Lego Store Manchester Arndale had them out today. Just spent an hour feeling packets with the staff there as they helped me find the ones I wanted.
  20. Totally normal and there's no need to sort the bricks after you open them unless you really want to. I usually find that smaller pieces are all in one bag and I tend to keep those separate from the rest just so they're easier to find. The only thing I remember from the Camper Van (I built it with friends who are less experienced with modern Lego) was to pay attention to the colours of bricks being used. I got towards the end and found that someone had used a brick elsewhere in the build because the difference between light bley and silver (if I remember rightly) wasn't that obvious.
  21. I think my only set with a STAMP is the 80's airport (6392) where there's a signage sticker over three bricks. As they're just yellow 1 x 4s, I'm not that bothered, but it would probably frustrate me more on modern sets if I felt like there was an alternative.

    UK Sales

Tesco online has a few sets in their sale: 9515 SW The Malevolence: £80 (Previously £99) 7938 City Passenger Train: £80 (Previously £99) 8070 Technic Supercar: £80 (Previously £89) 3182 City Airport: £60 (Previously £69)
  23. As a knitter, I would LOVE minifig knitting needles! I generally only buy the minifigs that fit into my Modular street or Winter Village sets (plus the costumed CMFs, who are at the Pet Shop's launch party!), so I'd be buying Yeti (if it's a costume), Welder, Jazz Musician, Constable (if it's a British bobby), Holiday Elf, Bavarian Lady, Grandma, Gingerbread Man and Diner Waitress, possibly Scarecrow and Scientist as well. That's more than my usual average of about 6 CMFs per series.
  24. My friend just sent me a photo of an empty unit in Manchester Arndale (downstairs in New Cannon Street Mall, next to Clinton's) with Lego Store branding on the front. It just says 'Coming Soon - Opening 2011*' As I work in the Arndale I'm considering just declaring myself bankrupt now to save time! ;) Does anyone know any further details about this? *Yes, 2011, from what I can see from the photo! Oops. ETA: Manager job listing here Jobs at Lego This states expected start date as July 2012 Further ETA photos:

    Higher prices in Europe

From the sets I've looked at, it's really not that much cheaper in the US. For example, Mini Modulars is £59.99 or $79.99 (£50) and by the time you've added US sales tax and/or import duty the difference really is negligible. For Aussies, the difference is much, MUCH bigger. e.g. Town Hall costs AU $299 but the US price translates to AU $189. I've been spending alternate months in the US this year and the only Lego I've bought back is a few PAB cups from when they were BOGOF a few months ago. To me, the slight difference in price isn't worth the hassle of getting a big set home. If I was an Aussie, I would be filling my suitcase with the stuff every time!
