  1. love it, superb work. one of my first technic sets (with 850, 855, 856). I remember building it with my dad when i was a kid - he helpfully made one chair in parallel with me making the other... and forgot to make it a mirror image. i came out of the dark ages this year with the arocs for christmas and am addicted. I've been thinking of remaking 850 studless and this has inspired me to try it
  2. seeing all the excellent mods i can't help wondering if lego have been incredibly devious...... why leave a 1L hole in the dashboard... if not to tempt people to add a HOG why leave a hole just the right size for an XL PF motor underneath why "deliberately" create an unusual (wrong!) gear shift sequence? why put the changeover catches in the paddle shift the wrong way round? accidentally on purpose? surely the friciton issue blackbird pointed out in stage 6 is so glaringly obvious lego wouldn't have built it that way without reason could it all be to drum up interest and controversy and excitement to sell a lot of sets at a high price...? would be quite brilliant if they did turn round and reveal a hidden contest to identify all the "deliberate" mistakes and win a real GT3 RS* are you sure there is nothing in the special content to reveal a competition. Why create individual lazer etched pieces to only get a few posters and a cheap certificate, if its not a limited edition...Is it a secret code? ...i doubt anything is so sneaky but this set certainly is ultimate in the amount of hype and interest, ultimate marketing and parting people from their money - it seems popular whatever its limitations Me i never thought id spend £250 on a set.... but sadly porsche was out of stock when i visited the lego shop in stratford to try and get it... *hope its not the case as it may mean people stop sharing all their finds!
  3. beautiful, organic, almost alive, does feel like its growing rather than being built.. and yet slightly creepy too. very good work!
  4. interesting it suggests there are 2700 larger parts to make the real GT3.. “It’s a special car and it takes a number of unique processes to ensure that the 2700 larger individual elements that go into the 911 GT3 RS come precisely together,” coincidence, spin, or genuinely aimed to make the model with similar number, hence limiting some options?
  5. so I've been lurking a while here, since returning from dark ages with the arocs as a christmas gift, not posting until now.* I just wanted to post a few observations having read this thread religiously for days... I've enjoyed following the speculation issues and building anticipation like nothing else in a long time. Thanks to all that make it so enjoyable, not least Jim, Sariel and others who are being very restrained in honouring their privilege which must be excruciating given the excitement around this set. maybe i'll get it maybe i won't, perhaps I'll wait, perhaps I'll crack but I've got considerable money's worth out of this set already in some ways already. I've discovered that in the past I'd race through builds and enjoy them for a while then consign them to a bucket of lego to build now and again. now though i enjoy sourcing the pieces on bricklink/brickowl and building other models, often piecemeal over several days and then stop whilst i wait for more parts, sometimes doing later bits and dotting about - its more fun and more informative to learn about the functions, especially since studless is new to me, a bit more Meccano like i guess and thats fun too. I built Madoca's wing back truck and 8043 excavator this way and loved doing both (even if the yellow panels on the excavator are quite expensive!!) with this porsche i feel like i already know a lot of it by reading, viewing photos and videos and thats half the fun. It's not going to have the playability of the arocs (or even the original car chassis 8860 with 3 gears and reclining/sliding chairs I had as a kid) for instance, it's got looks but isn't perfect. I doubt I'll use it for parts - i like to have the parts to make everything at the same time if i desire, but i do like the idea of a limited edition, gutted i missed the UCS falcon, and the special edition crawler. I know this isn't limited but it feels like it - whether that's the hype, the ultimate label, the box (I'm a sucker for a good box) and if there is a major issue getting the original could be smart. anyway others have stated many opinions on why it is or isn't ultimate, or perfect - to me it has to be the scope for the people here to make it their own. I do think the interior looked very good and clean (steering column aside) and its striking so it appeals but I'm not entirely sure why! anyway that post used up another 15mins waiting for Jim's review - looking forward to it - hope everyone is enjoying this as I am! *oops - just realised I did post once before!
  6. Just finished this, very impressive build. I tried some adjustments to the steering to improve it - not sure it makes much difference but i added a 43093 axle to pin connector with two 32123 half bushes on the front steering which reduces the play and forces it to turn to the max, I did the same but with a 3713 bush on the 2nd/5th axles which has a little more play, and then left the 3rd/4th axles with the pin in the original design - if done carefully it seems to steer slightly better.
