    Battle Packs - Better models?

Yeah, I agree. I got 4 of the Clone troopers vs. droidekas battlepacks, and that command center is too small and ugly. It would be nice if they were modular, or had alternate instructions to form a larger command center that's more movie-accurate and good-looking.

    Battle Packs - Better models?

Pretty sure the point of the statement is to point out that it's silly for PLP to institute requirements for being a fan of LEGO - the dictionary definition of fan is "a person who has a strong interest in or admiration for a particular person or thing." Lots of fans of football have never played the game; similarly, in theory you can be a fan of LEGO without owning any. Most people would agree that's silly, but the point is you don't need to be "seeing bricks as potential for MOCs" in order to be a fan.

Half of me thinks you're drastically overthinking this, but the other half says you're genius. That would be a pretty bad pun, though. Truthfully, I think a hemisphere Death Star a la Orthanc would be great - just think how annoying it would be to keep on opening panels everywhere to access rooms if it was a complete sphere. A hemisphere would avoid that problem but still look really cool. The only problems are that the rooms would need to be much more shallow in order to fit in your hand, and a hemisphere doesn't balance well on its side (though I suppose it could have a large stand or base).

Well, it depends on the type of clone you want. Like Brickdoctor says, if the type you want is currently available in a battlepack, that's the cheapest way to get them. (Most battlepacks are ~$12 with ~4 minifigures, so that's ~$3 per minifigure.) If the type you want isn't available in a current battlepack, then bricklink is the better choice, but like he says, the problem is generally the cheap ones there aren't available in high quantities, so you'll have to pay a lot of shipping, or pay a higher price, or just buy a few at a time from a store that has other stuff you want. I just did a rudimentary search on bricklink, so I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but the only army-building type clones I saw in decent quantities for no more than $3 apiece were bomb squad troopers, airborne troopers, Kashyyyk clones, normal clones, and horn company troopers. I don't know where you live, how many troopers you want, what type of clone you want, what condition you want them in, or how much you're willing to spend, so I can't give you specific advice, so just do a search on Bricklink and see which ones are available cheaply that you want.

    Battle Packs - Better models?

I don't mind if there's a crappy build so long as the figures are great. I love the current Galactic Empire pack, despite its useless build (although the pieces are somewhat useful for me), because I need a few more technicians to man the Death Star and Star Destroyer, and the jumptroopers and shocktrooper are just cool. Sure, I would have preferred a couple of normal stormtroopers, but I'm still content. The FO battlepack, on the other hand, has a crappy build and bad figures. The normal sets come with too many officers and crew to begin with, so getting just one in the pack would have been bad enough, but to get two officers/crewmen and only one normal FO stormtrooper is crazy. And it comes with a lame turret. Kashyyyk, Geonosis, and Utapau troopers were all great packs in my opinion, with a cool mini swamp speeder that doesn't look too silly, a nice walker, and our first tri-droid, respectively. They had detailed figures that were great for army building (although the Geonosis troopers were made up). Anything that includes a decent-looking normal-scale build and decent figures is a winner for me, but there are just some awful ones. The Imperial Troop Transport is a joke - it's just a microfighter with extra figures (and Rebel-style at that). The rebel battlefront pack is weird - that speeder is oversized; why couldn't they have given us a normal speeder and reduced the price (or added an extra figure)? The weird speeder combined with undesirable figures meant I only bought one (No need for a pack of Duros, and plain human rebels are boring to me), but I appreciate the effort TLG put in trying to make it interesting by including aliens; I'll probably buy an army of Rodians off BL. I like that idea of making Battlepacks modular or having alternate instructions for a larger model online; it would work particularly well for something like the Episode II clone pack with the lame small command center. One other thing TLG might do is make not-battlepacks with background characters, like a set of the Max Rebo band or Modal Nodes say - I'd buy dozens of those!

    Updating Your Minifigs

I don't think the Star Wars B&P thread is up-to-date. I made a B&P order last week and could only find a couple uninteresting SW pieces.
  7. I see no reason for either lightsabers or blasters to be thoroughly updated; we have different molds already for all the sabers that really look different, such as for Dooku, Kylo Ren, the Inquisitors, and Ventress, so the only thing that's really missing in that respect is different lengths of sabers (such as for shotos for Yoda and Ahsoka). Blasters are decent; between the standard three and the clone commander pistols we have enough really; although I'd like to see some more color variation, I'm otherwise content.

What about the Star Trek license?

I like both Star Wars and Star Trek, and would certainly shovel out the money to buy both. But honestly, I can't think of many sets that most people would buy. The only really notable vehicle is the Enterprise itself, and it would need to be gigantic in order to look decent. Although I might, I highly doubt most people would buy multiple incarnations of the Enterprise, so your dream of getting one from each series is unlikely. However, I don't think it's out of the question for TLG to release one giant Enterprise and maybe a minifigure series and then be done with it, like the Simpsons, as others have mentioned.

Very nice wave. As others have said, the last few waves have been disappointing, but I think I'll buy every set in this one. Tank - Looks a little blocky, but probably accurate. I've always felt the Imperial ground army was lacking, so I'm happy to get this. Having 2 tank troopers makes me happy has well, so I may even get multiple sets, although hopefully on sale. AT-ST - Definitely an improvement over the last one, although it's too blurry to tell by how much. I'll definitely pick one up, but it's not perfect enough for me to get more. TIE Striker - Looks very nice (although no smooth wing edges ). Nice figures, but I don't really want multiple Strikers, so I think I'll pass on duplicates. U-Wing - Very nice figures, and decent build. I'm not a big rebel fan, but the set is nice enough to sway me to buy. Imperial transport - Looks rather ugly, although in proper resolution it may look fine. Great figures though, so I'll still get it. I figure it's a certainty we get battlepacks in the following wave, but knowing TLG it'll be a horrible selection. I don't think I'll need any more tank troopers if I buy multiple sets, but I'm sure I'll want more shoretroopers and death troopers. Even if we get lucky and get a decent battlepack, there's no way more than one OT stormtrooper is included.

It depends on what you like. I've always been a fan of TIE variants and Imperial stuff, so I personally would get the TIE. Takodana is a decent exterior with nice figures and is underrated, but if you're looking for an all-around great set it's not the best choice. Most people would recommend the Resistance Transport, as it has a nice subject, nice build, and nice figures, and although that's the only one of these three I don't have, I would still recommend it the most.

There's no way the AT-ACT is a predecessor to the AT-AT; I'm near certain it's just a variant with a slightly different purpose. Back in the old EU we saw AT-AT variants, and we're starting to see them again, so nothing extraordinary.

Director Krennig's rank insignia isn't very high, though. That's only a Fleet Admiral Rank Bar, same as Piett/Ozzel. Maybe they'll retcon it and say ANH-style ranks are incompatible with ESB ones, but I think that's strange. That book says he's the director of the Imperial military, but I find that unlikely. That book is a very rough draft judging by the redundant descriptions; I bet he's actually the ISB director, which would make his rank much more plausible.

Assault on hoth is a bad idea; it's not a great set, and even if you don't have any Hoth sets right now and you don't think it's bad, you should wait until later. Either the price will drop and you can pick it up cheap, or you can wait for the inevitable redesign in a few years. You should wait until they reveal the death star. I bet it'll be cool, probably the coolest set we've seen for a while, but 99% it'll be well over your budget; probably by $100. Slave 1, Falcon, Turbo Tank, and A-wing/Vader's TIE are all good sets. All of them will be remade at some point in the future, even if the sequel trilogy backs things up. You don't have to worry about missing out on the Millennium Falcon; you know TLG will release one every three years, but if you're looking to get a core star wars collection it might be a good buy for you. I don't really care quite as much for the A-wing/Vader's TIE set as some people do; it's decent, but I think it still can and will be improved upon, and it's not a very exciting to get when you're spending your $300 budget. The UCS Slave 1 is a beautiful set; it has nice figures, a nice build, accurate, it's nearly flawless. There'll be a cheaper remake someday, but I think the higher cost is worth it for this one. The turbo tank is a good set that has nice figures, and good playability too, if you care about that. It's no masterpiece, but I doubt it'll be surpassed anytime soon, so it's worth buying. My final recommendation would be to get the Slave 1 and Turbo Tank, but all the sets are worthwhile.

No, I think the bridge is the same size. Even if it is larger, it's certainly not to scale with the ship. For example, in the TLG's official Executor you can see the bridges for the normal star destroyer and the Executor are actually the same size. Obviously, TLG isn't known for accuracy, but if the bridge is larger, it's not by much.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Well, I think the argument is that if Sato was included then Ahsoka would not be the main selling point for everyone; I know I'd much prefer a Sato; I never much cared for Ahsoka, and I have no overwhelming desire to get an adult minifigure when I already have a dozen marginally different padawan ones. However, I do understand that kids probably would want an Ahsoka much more than some of us would. I've been busy and am 8 episodes behind on Rebels, and I hear that it gets much better, but the first season seemed sort of lame. What's Disney going for? They seem to have no problem covering torture, decapitation, and other such dark topics in the show, yet they make the dialogue and interactions among the members of the crew of the Ghost childish and painful to listen to. I suppose TCW got off to a slow start too, but near the end it was an amazing show that had great characters, great action, and great themes, so maybe I've set the bar too high. Hopefully everyone is right and Rebels does undergo a similar change, because it definitely does show potential. I did some research, and Rebels starts 5 years before ANH, and the most recent episode took place 3 years before ANH. That definitely sets an upper limit for how many total seasons there can be; at the current rate, it seems like no more than 5 in total (or maybe 6, if they're short or they start to cram). If they wanted to speed up, they could probably reach ANH time in only two short seasons. Personally, I think it'll end earlier because none of the main characters appear in the movies or as far as we know in Rogue One, so we'll see them go into exile/be killed. TCW got just as close as possible to leading into RotS possible short of showing Grievous kidnapping the Chancellor, I believe. Yes, there were all those unfinished episodes, but those were mostly tying up loose ends within TCW and not actually bridging to RotS. Those episodes dealing with the implants and fives brought us very close to RotS.

For me, 7th Sister would be the main selling point, but for some reason everyone else loves Ahsoka. Either, I won't be picking up the set unless it's dirt cheap.

    Updating Your Minifigs

Has anyone tried this part with the old Endor Leia, or with General Lando? It's not the same shade of blue, but it has boots. Also, has anyone tried Yularen with black legs and white hips? That seems like the most screen-accurate solution, but I suspect it'll look unpalatable in reality. I may have to cave and remove the mad scientist printing and use those, but my inner purist is fighting (although my other side defends it; after all, I've accidentally scraped printing on minifigures, but I keep them in my collection, so what makes intentional removal worse?). I've decided to update the legs on all my figs that have unprinted legs; but I won't waste time/money doing it for ones that already have printed ones. By the way, has anyone found a better head for an Admiral Ozzel than this one? In the Empire Strikes Out he looks like this, but I can't tell if that piece exists in real life.

Is a Star Wars CMF line viable?

Yeah, I've always heard that Habro is the problem, but I've never seen a clear explanation of where their territory ends. Like everyone says, if LEGO could do it, they would have years ago, and Hasbro isn't going anywhere. For reference, look at the dark bucket project from LEGO Cuusoo: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2674/official_comments I do wish we could have better battle packs, though. I'm so tired of getting a dozen crappy speeders. One nice thing TLG could do for us would be to give us a small base with a ton of troopers. That I would buy. It's infuriating to get a set like 10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT walker, which has space for around 20 clones, and to only get 8 instead.

    [MOC] Imperial Star Destroyer Tyrant

Man, I'm glad I clicked on this! As others have said, when I saw it on the main page I thought it was just an impressive exterior, but I had no idea the inside was so detailed! And even when I realized there was an interior, I thought it would be just one level, but instead there are multiple stories! Probably the most impressive MOC I've ever seen.
  21. Hello! I'm Hank, from Florida. I mostly collect Star Wars, but I'm working towards collection all the LotR/Hobbit sets. I have all the alien conquest sets, and I've dabbled in collecting Monster Fighters, City, Pirates, and the LEGO movie, but in general I limit myself to Star Wars. According to Brickset, I have 304 sets, 936 minifigures, and 81734 pieces. I'm no expert at MOC-ing, but I've tried my hand at it before and built a TIE Interdictor. (You can see an LDD picture here, but I also built it physically.) It's not perfect, but it's much better than I expected for a first attempt. Sadly, I'm generally too busy to get much of a chance to design things. Outside of the LEGO world, I'm a big fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Tolkien, and other such franchises. I'm a student. I only collect post-2005 LEGO Star Wars sets, as the earlier ones look awful to me (and no one wants licensed yellow figures). My goal (which is unlikely to ever be realized) is to collect a minifigure-scale set of every distinct vehicle/building ever released. To reduce the number of sets this entails and make things easier on my wallet, I am somewhat selective. For example, I only need one version of the Millennium Falcon (much as I'd like more). Also, some vehicles simply aren't unique. I feel I don't need to get every single Jedi Starfighter, as they are pretty much the same, except in different colors and with minor improvements as the years go by. I do try to get every unique (flesh-colored) character, but I don't bother with different versions of the same character. I'm a purist for the most part. I don't add custom decals to sets, paint bricks, or buy brickarms. When I make a custom minifigure, I use official LEGO bricks in their original form. I'm pretty excited for Star Wars Episode VII and the sets that will accompany it.

What Hilt of LEGO Lightsaber you prefer?

Definitely chrome. Why did TLG switch to the metallic gray color? I find that it wears off even faster than the chrome.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

I definitely wouldn't say the old TIE is better than the new one, but I would say the new TIE isn't enough of an improvement over the old one for me to buy it. The old one isn't perfect by any means, but it is well-designed and holds up to a certain extent, its main flaw being in the design of the gray border. However, this new one barely improves upon it. Perhaps it's because this new one is based on Rebels, but I don't care for the style at all. It looks much too stubby, unlike the old one. The wing border is slightly better, but I don't like the layered system very much; I think something like this would look much nicer.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors

Well, even if LEGO pulls something like making a battle pack with no duplicate figures again, at least they'll be cool, useful figures like the new troopers instead of the useless First Order officers and crew from that battle pack. Based on the prices revealed on Brickset, I have to believe that most of the sets won't be of things we saw in this trailer. The only practical set I saw was the hover tank (and the X-Wing, but let's pray we don't get yet another). The rest were too large - I think they say the largest set for the Rogue One wave will have 863 pieces - hopefully that's not a stunted AT-AT or landing craft. I guess there'll be a couple of location-based sets too, but at this scale I doubt they'll be good. If it's well-made, I could see myself getting multiple AT-STs or tanks though. As others have said, the officer in the trailer is definitely not a grand admiral - by his rank badge he's just a normal admiral or equivalent rank, he doesn't have any gold epaulets, and he doesn't have white pants. The white tunic and black pants would place him with the ISB (or imperial intelligence, as they've been changing the canon) like Yularen, but ISB people have only one row of rank tiles, unlike this guy. He also has that cape, so it could be that his uniform means nothing at all and he's some super officer or agent of the empire who does whatever he wants And I think the point everyone is trying to make about the female main characters is that the only reason they're female is because Disney is fulfilling a quota so as not to seem sexist, and so they can follow the trend of creating (annoying) characters like Katniss and Tris. For the record, I hate Luke Skywalker too. Rey doesn't have an annoying personality - her flaw as a character is that she can do anything; she's a better pilot than Han, she beats Kylo, she learns a Jedi mind trick in five minutes - I'm sure she'll get better in Episode VIII. On the other hand, Princess Leia is one of my favorite characters - if written correctly, female can be great. Hopefully that will be the case for Rogue One, but the glimpse we see in the trailer makes her seem just like the annoying outcast girls of today's YA novels.
