That stork is stunning...and I really like the sideways brick idea for your front door. It really adds some textural interest.

    Shipping prices on Bricklink

It varies from dealer. I usually buy from dealers who either charge actual postal rates only, or a slight premium above that (e.g. $1.50 USD above that to account for the cost of bubble mailers, and PP fees). I think a slight premium above actual postal is fair given the low price for a lot of the parts, and the time involved to pull them. Some rates can be high because of certain countries national postal service rates (I find Italy in general is high to ship FROM, but Germany and the Netherlands for small packages are quite reasonable)...others can charge more because they demand insurance and signature or expensive options for shipping only. Choose your dealer accordingly. In Canada, it can often be cheaper to ship a parcel from the US than it is WITHIN Canada...so with current exchange rates, it's often better to deal outside of my own country.

Bricks for buildings, 1 or 2 stud wide?

I'm no expert...very much a Noob...but if you have Lego Store PAB walls as an option, you can often get more interesting coloured 2x4s (dark red, orange, medium blue, dark green, LBG, etc) than you can 1 wide bricks (white, black). So, for stocking up in bulk outside of BL orders...it can be an option to go 2-wide...at least that's what I'm thinking now after filling a cup with dark red 2x4's.

I was thinking a similar store demographic as Sherway with Sears and Holt Renfrew amongst the usual trendy clothing shops is similar to Sherway, and positions it closer to the Northern burbs...

I think Yorkdale would be good...convenient to me too...but what say do we have to the Corporate TLG planners?

    Canadian Eh?

I agree...when you think malls like West Edmonton Mall can handle multiple stores within the SAME mall...certainly multiple stores within a City that serves 3M+ people plus tourists can certainly handle another Lego store...especially given the size of the stores being something that wouldn't cost the same to operate as a TRU...and given that there really is an absence of toy related stores downtown...I think it would be a great addition...not that I'm thinking self-servingly at all or anything...

I did the build with my 2 kids...didn't stand in line to make a purchase to get the commemorative brick...but thought they would have it displayed somewhere permanently...too bad. On these big builds, do they usually just build and tear down, never to see the model again? Thanks for the update, BTW...

Help - Inventory and possible sets

I wrote an access database that tells me what I need to build things either in terms of part # or in terms of part # and colour. I haven't cross-referenced part numbers to alternate names or similar parts yet...but it does the job. I've uploaded into it about 411 kits that I'm interested in with instructions, and images for all the parts. It does the job...but still takes operator intervention as it doesn't look for "close enough" scenarios like you possibly having enough dark gray slope 65's but possibly not enough dark bluish gray slope 65's...or tonnes of log brick 1x2's, but possibly being short on 1x4's. It's been useful though as I sit with my kids, they look through the kits and we see if we can build what they want, and it pops open the online instructions and parts for me to pull from the bins for us to start building. I can share the code (it's chunky coding as I wrote it for me, and not for distribution and ease of usage) if someone can tell me the best way to distribute.

    PAB Cup Swap

I'm new here...and only recently out of the dark ages...so I'm hoping you're forgiving if this is a really stupid question...but, in looking at the selection available at some PAB walls around the world as found here: BrickBuildr's iPAB Wall Page, and what people are getting in their cups at this post here at EB: EB's What Did You Get in Your PAB Cup thread...has anybody thought of doing a PAB cup swap? I'm thinking the idea that there have got to be parts at some PAB's that you can't get at others...so rather than pay premiums of parting out individual pieces on BL or wherever...that you just put in a request to individual members to do a swap based on what you have on your wall. Shipping would even out...and the cup price would even out...minimal cost...and kind of neat way to build community. ...just a thought...thinking that I see some stores have things I would like like gray and tan tiles, bamboo leaves, flowers other than red...but I have some things that might be of interest to others too like 1x4 reddish brown tiles, dark blue slope 45 double convex bricks and LBG slope 65 2x2x2's...you could also learn some interesting packing techniques. Just a thought...

    PAB Cup Swap

This is exactly what I was thinking. I have requested management to look at certain parts, and they say they will take that into consideration, but already have their orders in for the next month or two...so the rotation at the Sherway store might not change for another month or so. It's a new store, so I think they start with the default selection...which is fine...but I thought it made an opportunity for folks who have access to a store to see what's out there on a more "international" scale and have a relatively low cost way of obtaining a selection of parts. Just pondering...

PAB Cups: What Did You Get?

Went back again, and got close to the same piece count, but a couple pieces of interest...mainly the slope 65 2x2x2's, and the dark red brick 2x4's :
