  1. The internet code tracking thing is a nice idea, but it's almost guaranteed that not all 5000 will be entered. Which is kind of sneaky when you think about it, because it will lead people to believe that some are still out there, when maybe they aren't, and drive them to buy. And then years later, people will still be asking "hey, whatever happened to those 600 golden minifigs that aren't accounted for?" To which someone will in reply make a clever MOC about golden minifigs living off the grid on a farm somewhere. :) Five thousand is exceedingly rare. If I happen to get one, great. But I'm not paying $400 for a minifig. The bloom was off the rose for me with the olympic minifigs anyway. And besides... it's stressful enough just trying to get all 16 of each series like I do anyway. On the plus side, this will be fun to spectate.
  2. It's guaranteed. The information is coming from TLG via a toy expo. There's still just spotty information on the exact details (what it is exactly, how many per box(es) etc.)
  3. Some information from FBTB: http://www.fbtb.net/...13-other-stuff/ Still no real details on the gold thing. Sounds like TLG should have put a more informed employee on the floor, though. My conjecture is that if it's really called "Find Mr Gold", that there's probably just one unique gold fig, and probably one per box or less. As minifig Han Solo says, "I've got a bad feeling about this".
  4. Maybe they're not completely chrome or pearl colored, but rather it's just a special print/paint effect? Bedazzled disco guy, anyone?
  5. Oh no. I can't feel color through a bag very well. :(

    Storage and Sorting LEGO

I have that exact some one. You can take the drawers out! You sort of pull the drawer until it hits the stoppers and then on the right and left side of the drawer you squeeze just a little toward the middle of the drawer and it slips right out. Unless they changed the design or something... I got mine at Walmart, but same brand and looks just like it.

2013 LEGO Pirates rumors and discussion.

That article is referencing this one: http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/disney-gives-muppets-2-brad-birds-1952-release-dates-moves-maleficent-72941 Although there isn't any additional or clearer information, and they don't explain what the "omnibus announcement" is or where it was announced. Not that I'm saying they're making it up or anything, just that there's no obvious link to a press release or anything. It'll be curious to see if Lego makes more PotC. Wake me up in November of 2014 when the prelims get leaked. :)

2013 LEGO Pirates rumors and discussion.

The monthly mini model build for September is going to be a pirate. Spotted it on brickset: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=40069-1 Lol, I'll admit it... I watch Jake and the Neverland Pirates in the morning before going to work. I wouldn't buy any Duplo over it though. :)
  9. Yeah at my local store (Santa Clara, CA) they have little cubbies with MOCs in them. You have to really crouch over to see them (more accessible to little kids). Sometimes there are official sets inside, but more often than not there are cube dudes or clever little creations. I think I've spotted little notes in there crediting some of the builds to the local LUG.
  10. Yes, and what Lego store did you see this at? And do other locations have the same thing?

You're probably right about Disney being more strict than WB. But still I wonder how long a lock-out on similar themes lasts. I find it hard to believe that PotC being all but gone from shelves and certainly not in production (minting copies of sets) would exclude the possibility of classic/yellow Lego Pirates for so long between movies. 2012 to what, 2015? That's a long stretch. On the other hand, there was about a decade gap between 1990's pirates and 2000s pirates, and that was without a PotC license. :( It's anyone's conjecture. Agreed; I also see that corsair ship as a concession gift to us pirate fans. I don't even think they were a big part of the movies, right? Of course it's been a few years since I saw them at this point. Speaking of which, what information do we have on that LotR corsair ship? I think I missed the leaks.

You may be right. But on the other hand, I thought the same would be true of LotR/Hobbit vs Castle, and yet we will have all those themes in wide release this year, Castle right next to Hobbit sets. I think it comes down to the contract itself, and nobody here is privy to that contract. Granted, the Hobbit movie will be out of theaters at the point when Castle (re-)launches, but that still is quite a short lock-out of just a few months. So with the next PotC movie so far out, that at least gives hope that TLG could slip out a Pirates theme before it hits. In summary: anything could happen. :) Let's hope some form of Pirates happens sooner than later.

    LEGO Castle 2013

Some observations on the photos: - I see a witch fig at the top of the dragon castle (pointy hat, probably dress "legs", likely female) - Each box has a graphic at the top right of a pile of treasure. Gold pieces, gold sword, crown. - I see horse barding in the castle set, and horse helmet in the "gold getaway". Mid sized "gatehouse raid" has a horse with both and it's rider is an elite knight, I think. - Kings Castle is using many wall panels so that it can be large with a manageable piece count. Hard to make out much else of note. I wonder if that's the dragon that will be used in the final product. Didn't they have one like that with the viking line a few years back? I also want to say, I felt that the fuzzy preliminary images of Monster Fighters was disappointing, but I ended up getting them all and rather enjoyed them. I think the same will happen here. One last note: I'm a castle and a pirate fan, both! Helps me be less disappointed on a year-to-year basis. ;)
  14. I wasn't very careful, but I took some photos of the Monster Fighters sets I put together, and decided to play around with long exposure and playing with post-processing. 15. Your auction might be over now, but if it isn't... I once sold an iPhone on eBay and learned the semi-hard way about people setting up bogus accounts and bidding up desirable items in the hopes that the seller will ship the item before payment is sent (i.e. payment never sent). Just be careful of that. I would cancel bids immediately where the bidder has either a very young account (<1 month old) or negative or zero feedback. Oh and block the specific bogus bidders or they may bid on your item again. I think there's even a setting to disallow bidding from negative feedback buyers. Keep a close eye on your bids coming in. Also try to be at the ready around the end of the auction to cancel any bogus bids; you can't stop computer-controlled bid sniping in the last 10 seconds or so, but I've stopped bogus bids like that before. I can't speak to the market value of the minecraft set offhand (check bricklink for a gauge?) but they may actually be bidding at reasonable levels, especially with christmas here.

New (Old) LEGO Pirates adventures--in German!

Very good stuff! I had no idea there were audio dramas like that. I wonder if things like this should be added to some kind of index for non-set items of interest. I personally get a kick out of learning that the old pirate minifigures have names. In fact, the 90s pirates seem to have more names than the 2009 pirates, which seems to go against what one might expect. I'd love to read a translation of these, if someone is up to it. How long do these things run? I imagine they're more like 15-30 minutes instead of 2-3 hours. :)

What was the last movie you watched?

I watched The Artist a few days back when I was sick. It was really good.

    LEGO Castle 2013

It's been said that one of the castles is a return, so I'll bet they'll just print more copies of 2010's Kingdoms 7496 King's Castle with the new set number above. Also assuming Kingdoms brand returns, the above sets start to sound like they'll be more guerrilla based attacks from the dragon faction. Dragon Mountain would likely be a dragon faction castle perched on a cliff/mountain, maybe using the raised baseplate with ramp and pit.
  19. I'd like to sell a TRU (Toys R Us) gift card, also good at Babies R Us. The balance is $123.78 USD. (I'm not sure if this would be usable outside of the USA.) Looking at plasticjungle, TRU gift cards are all sold out at a 10% discount. So I'm asking about 10% off it's face value, or $112 (rounded up 60 cents). It was originally (and still is I guess) an "e-giftcard", good for online purchases and in-store purchases. (For in-store, you need the full email printout, which I can dig up.) Another tactic is to immediately use this GC number and pin to buy another TRU gift card, effectively exchanging one number/pin for another. Anyway... I have the card number and PIN here. I would expect a Paypal payment, and then I'll email the card number and pin. To help prove I won't rob you blind, I'm on a straightshooters list, an ebay profile in good standing, and a bricklink buyer profile with some feedback. http://www.eurobrick... ... ntry714451 http://myworld.ebay.com/zeyavisuddha http://www.bricklink...back.asp?u=Zeya
  20. The "Space Marine" and "Battle Mech" look very similar from the back side. Are they supposed to go together? They might serve as sort of a hook to get people to buy the Galaxy Squad sets. The photos of Galaxy Squad look like there is a similar concept of battle mech figs going along with the troopers (or do they go with the alien guys?).
  21. I just went through my big batch of packets today. I didn't get a single business man though, so somehow I have to acquire that. It's a pretty solid series. I do have some quality gripes though. The conquistador's helmet and armor is really tan plastic that is painted with gold, and they look really bad from the underside. And my cowgirl's hair is painted badly in the back; the white of the hat is running down into her hair. Santa has the pink problem on his torso where it should be white. Pirate captain also has the pink problem. I think my favorite figs from this series are the cowgirl, diver, DJ, and thespian. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cheerleader and the bavarian guy. I really let a long time go by for this series. It's almost time for series 9 to launch! Hopefully I can get a fresh box for 9 because for this series I had to do the buying-random-packets thing, and that means combing through where other people already have been.
  22. By far, my biggest issue is finding the time to build. It seems these days that it's all I can do to find the time to put together new sets, leaving no time to do any free building / MOC'ing. As the sets and parts pile up, I do feel some remorse that this money is being spent on little pieces that will later get squirreled away and probably never used. That remorse is worse with sets where the build isn't particularly stunning. (For example, a set I bought for some parts, an impulse set, or a set I bought to be a completist for a theme I like.) But other sets with awesome design, such as a modular building or Imperial Flagship where I really enjoy just having them around and built, I don't feel hardly any remorse. I know I can't be the only one with time crunch-related remorse. Right?
  23. I've heard people say that in the US, there is a law mandating packaging to list the number of pieces for puzzles and building sets such as Lego. I'm fairly certain that is true; all those types of product here have a piece count here.

    LEGO Castle 2013

I sure hope so! I guess all sets for next year are going to the 5-digit set number format. The newly revealed TMNT numbers start with a 7 like that, and same with the Galaxy Squad theme. So at least that's not evidence against the existence.

    TMNT 2013

The "Turtle Lair Attack" set lists 5 named minifigs on the box, but there also seems to be a monochrome brown figure on a yellow plate (spinning turntable?) in the background wall section. Interestingly colored helmet too. I'm interested in that set for the splinter minifigure, because I have a sub-collection of minifigs that have printed 2x2x2 slopes for legs. For 488 pieces and a licensed theme they'll probably MSRP it around...what? $60 USD?
