[MOC] Small hull vessels - custom design

Excellent little boats. Could we get a picture with a little better contrast to see the details? The deck blends into itself being all black with the white background. Also, which pieces did you use to make the hulls?

2015 LEGO Pirates Rumors and Discussion

No wonder I've never seen it before, it's pretty new.

Anyone else see notice the torch attached to the cannon on Treasure Island? It's not a piece I've seen before. What it looks like is an upside down cone on a short bar. But Lego doesn't make a bar that short, and the new flame piece wouldn't sit in an upside down cone anyways. It could be that they meant to change that piece to a spyglass. Anyone else got an opinion on that?
  4. I think subscribing to the Overview thread would work wonderfully. I just didn't know it was possible

    Evil Stevie's Pirate Game

Rob, how is the game development coming along? I'm particularly interested in the random events generator you mentioned. I have your rules and expanded them myself, but I'm curious to see what changes you may have made recently.

Well, the finals are definitely better than the prelims, and J2G was right, the minifigs are really the high point. I think the new bandanna mold was unnecessary for sure. And I'm with most folks in thinking the Soldiers Fort is a little lacking, just means I'll have to buy 2 or three and MOC something better . I'm OK with the ship, it certainly looks like it's worth getting, though I didn't get the BBB so I can't compare it to that. I do hope that this is a move back to more classic styles and that there are more waves!

I do hope that the Pirates line does go deeper than the current list of potential sets. With just one ship it seems a little lacking. Who would the ship have a cannon battle with? On a separate, slightly lighter, note. It looks like the "Elves" theme that's coming out has a ship in it's lineup as well, which may end up nice for MoCing.

That would work. However, I would recommend adding more coats to thicken the fabric as opposed to making the mixture thicker. I've done it a few times and if the fabric isn't stiff enough adding another coat works pretty well. Plus, you don't run the risk of ending up with "cardboard" fabric when you add another coat (as long as you are using the recommended ratio).

Gilded Crow - 22 Gun Galleon

Man! That IS big. I'll bet it weigh's several tons, too. I know my IFS was much heavier than I was expecting and that's got to be at least twice as much plastic. Looks good though, can't wait to see the detail shots when it's done!
  10. My initial urge was to vote for the Quest for the Lost City, and after thinking over the others I'm still voting for the Lost City theme . It would have a good variety of sets including bases, ships, and environment. And those 3 factions are my favorites, if just a new spin on them. I do agree however, that an all female Islander group would probably run into trouble, both in marketing and political correctness.

Pirates Teamwork Contest - Voting Topic

    Definitely some beautiful builds. Entry 3 - 3 points Entry 4 - 2 points Entry 5 - 1 point

Gilded Crow - 22 Gun Galleon

Wow, that is a beautiful build. I'd have to say that is one of the most realistic looking Galleons I've seen, both proportionally and aesthetically. I imagine it will take you some time (and a fair amount of money) to build it in the flesh, but that boat is definitely worth doing in the flesh. I think the part I appreciate the most is the color scheme and minimal "decoration", there's just enough of the silver, blue, red, gold to make it look good. VERY well done!

LEGO Ambassador Project: Design a NEW Pirate Sub-Theme

In reply to the original posting, I totally believe that this is a worthwhile project. I think that it is about time for the Pirate theme to be revived since it's been about 5 years since the last push. I do have some limited time that I could put into creating prototypes when we get to that point. Most of my experience is with Classic Pirates, however I'm definitely OK with making good use of Bricklink to get a hold of the newer pieces. And I have gotten some experience in LDD as well. :-)

Seems a little complex, but it does make sense. I'll definitely be going through a few pieces of paper in the process. Thanks Studdles.

    [LIBRARY] Sails

So I just wanted to put out a word of warning, when printing these out, make sure that you are setting the computer to print at 100% of size... NOT fit-to-anything. I just spent several hours trying to browse and figure out how you guys were resizing these to be actual size and then realized the program I was using was fitting the picture to the page, making it much larger than actual size. Note: The program I was having trouble with was Paint.NET
