Heroica RPG - Quest #20: Missing Minerals!

Recommended Posts

IC: De'kra nodded at the bats, his eyes flaming of faint recognition. He had seen something like this kind of creature before, possibly many different things. As he attacked Bat D from the back row, De'kra couldn't help but feel like the situation could be much worse. Much worse. But in this situation his Prongcanis Dagger should be more than enough for the bats, should all go well.

"Just make sure that we are all attacking different bats! If the Gods are with us we can finish this quickly." cried Tarn as he aimed his axe at Bat B from the front row.

Battle Order:

Tarn - Bat B

Knifk - Bat E?

Guts - Bat A

Dak - Bat F?

De'kra - Bat D

Aberforth - Bat C

I already rolled, so....

Round 1 vs Bats:

Tarn vs Bat B - Hit

Knifk vs Bat E - Hit

Guts vs Bat A - Crit Hit

Dak vs Bat F - Shield

De'kra vs Bat D - Hit

Aberforth vs Bat C - Hit

Apparently the Giant Spider made the heroes absolutely fearless. The heroes leap forward and completely, utterly, and irreversibly decimate the poor, helpless, bloodsucking flying rats. After the spray of blood, bits and steel settles, the heroes look at one another covered in bat guts and have a good laugh. Dak looks down and finds 31 gold coins!

Ooc: my dagger's power should have left me at full health :)

Guts digs in the ground, without spirit. He had almost given up hope the mine would hold any treasure.

"That's more like it!" beamed Tarn. "The Gods are with us again!"

Once everyone was rested, he would see if there were any futher passageways to explore on this level.

IC: De'kra glanced at the groups leader, and sighed softly. Of course, despite the volume any sigh is loud for De'kra, as he doesn't need to breathe, The shade decided to rest as well, he might as well get some dreams in before they continue. Even as he began to dream finally De'kra remembered the bats of his past.

OOC: Please let there be more battles like this, I need the easy XP!

IC: Dak picks up the gold from the dirt, wiping it off with a corner of his tunic. After a good bit of wiping and spit, the gold shines like new. He holds up the coins, admiring them, and then puts them in the satchel he looted from the skeleton, along with the rest of the potions, venoms, and Gold left in the pockets of his fencing tunic, which he folded up and put in the bag as well. He then picks up the bag from the ground, pulls out his knife, and, apparently remembering something from his past, walks over and examining the bats, checking to see if they are all dead. He then checks the walls and ceiling of the room they're in, trying to see if there are any other bats or any creatures left, as well as looking for signs of human inhabitance.

"Hey," he says, and feels all the eyes in the cavern drawn to him. "You've all pretty much filled me in on what happened before I woke up, and the rest of it kind of filled itself in, or at least I think it did. That's how I was able to make the map. However, you have told me we came here to see what was stripping the mine of minerals, correct? Well, I don't think anything we've encountered yet; or what you've told me we encountered, has been able to do that, unless one of those things was enhanced by magic. I wonder," Dak looks thoughtful, "if that poor soul we found down that dead-end path was someone who found out what was really going on down here? We might want to go back and examine that part of the mine for signs of a struggle or magic usage. Also, those spiders? I don't think that they were what you would call 'normal'. Somehow, I think that there might be some magic at work here. Those spiders were unnaturally big, and that doesn't happen in a normal world, I think. Unless your world has changed a lot since my latest memories that have come back, which I seriously doubt. Aberforth, you're the magical specialist of this party, is it possible that there is a section of the mine that can only be opened by magic? And if so, do you think that you could open it? I'm in no way sure that my theory is correct, but if there is magic at work here, which I think is pretty likely, it could be a possibility."

"Kid, you need to quit yapping, and start using your head. If the mage would be able to open some kind of 'secret' passage, I'm sure he would have let us know, he does not seem the type for secrecy about this sort of thing, hell, the only thing he is hiding must be his baldness under that ridiculous hat. You question the nature of these spiders, yet you were totally okay with that giant lizard, back in that other place?"

Guts rolls his eyes, giant spiders were the least of his worries now (the largest was how to obtain a bottle of fine wine in this hellhole), there was something going on here, that part was right. Guts knew one thing for sure, when he got out of here, he would punch that Steward guy in the face.

Explore the other end of the tunnel or back to the Giant Spider's lair?

Swindle, sitting up in his bedroll, takes off his hat and slicks back a small wisp of white hair in defiance at Guts. He then turns to Dak.

"I haven't noticed anything I'd consider particularly magical, although I wouldn't rule out the possibility. If we decide to go back to where the Spider was, I can double check. To be honest, I don't think that's entirely the answer.

"I'd suggest we keep moving forward."

Firmly grasping Kyrferath once again, Tarn decided that they would explore the other end of this tunnel.

OOC: Tarn also equipped his Hollow Blade with one of his two Meads earlier, this needs reflecting in the stats

"Then I'm not sure what is. The only other explanation I can think of is that for some reason, the Steward is stealing his own minerals, though I'm not sure why. I say we continue forward, that might lead us to more clues about what's going on here. Also, if the rest of you won't go forward, I will. Since I'm a Rogue, if I come to a battle I know I can't win, I'll just run back and tell you guys what happened.

OOC: So, basically, this means that Dak will go to the other end of the tunnel, regardless of whether the party goes with him or not. If there's a battle at the end of the tunnel that has an enemy Level 15 or higher, he'll use his Flee skill in the first Round.

Guts watches how Dak walks into a wall, and frowns, perhaps his brain damage was worse than the party had thought.

Ooc: We can't go forward

OOC: Yes we can,I'm assuming the other end of the tunnel is forward from where we're standing.

Which is where we decided to go in the first place :hmpf:

OOC: I actually didn't read any of the posts after the updated stats, I just posted. I just wanted to throw that in there, as a little bit of motivation (Unless, of course, Guts decides it's better to let Dak set off all the traps instead of checking for them himself, which I wouldn't put past him, by the way.

The party turns about to explore the oppodsite end of the current tunnel. The path ends in an unremarkable chamber that was long ago picked clean by the Miners' Guild.

Tarn looked disappointed. "Does anyone want to have a dig around here? Not that we've had much luck digging before, but you never know."

The party searches the chamber but comes up empty handed. They decided to hoof it back to the Giant Spider's lair and continue on from there. As the descend into a cool, dark tunnel, they come to another 3-way intersection.

Straight, right, or left?

IC: De'kra clicked, "Group go left? I partial to middle path, but if group start left and reach barrier, group can go back and just go next left most path, which will save time from check map."
