Stud.io and Mac big issue with Mouse input

Recommended Posts

macOS 14.2 and Stud.io don't like each other. Mouse clicks stopped working or clicks work but Studio freezes.

Currently there are two workarounds:
- downgrade to 14.1.2 or earlier
- use another operating system

Of the people reporting the issue I only see M1/M2/M3 Macs, I don't think it is related to the ARM silicon, but it might be.

Since I have recently made a 14.2 boot disk to make some tests, I have just tried Stud.io on it and I can confirm that it is not usable on my Intel CPU either. In fact, the GUI seems not to be able to really get on the foreground, so it never receives any input.

I am pretty sure the devs will find out what is happening and correct it soon.

Happening to me on m1. Can’t left or right click. Can’t close app via the icon. Have to force quit with OS. Opening a .io file works but still can’t click anything.

I tried my wife's M2 that was two subversions behind (14.0) and it works on hers. Update 14.2.1 of Sanoma did not fix it so I guess the only option is that the developers need to release a new version.

Seems to have something to do with Unity: https://forum.bricklink.com/viewtopic.php?t=9874 and https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/mouse-and-keyboard-button-inputs-are-delayed-when-in-the-player-on-macos

This really sucks, I've got a macbook air and after updating the connect tool doesn't work and I can't move stuff on the page design without it breaking studio. Also probably more that I'm missing

It seems that they have found the issue and are working on a permanent solution (see Bricklink forum). I deleted and redownloaded both versions and while the normal version still is ignoring all mouse activity, the Early Access version automatically downloaded updated parts etc and is working for me (macOS Sanoma 14.2.1 (23C71), MBP M3 Max). I did not use it a lot yet so don't know how stable it is but I could load the project I'm working on which is quite a large modular building.

Its a pain. totally buggered. I can get the early access version on but then it breaks down when i rotate an object and won't lock it into place again. The normal version gets stuck on the update available box that you cant click on.

Seems like this is affecting Part Designer as well and is not fixed on either end yet; hopefully it will be rolled out soon. The beta Stud.io kinda works, but it's not a permanent fix.

The bug is fixed in both ‘production’ and EarlyAccess in version 2.24.1(1).  You need to (re)download and (re)install as you can’t click Accept in the older version.

The fix for PartDesigner is in testing now.  No exact ETA on a release.  Should be soon.
