Can anyone identify this vintage traction engine?

Does anyone know the name or number of this set? Despite my endless google searches I have not come up with anything that looks remotely like it?? Help!

What makes you think it's a set vs it just being an old MOC? I'm no expert on the really old vintage sets, but I've never seen anything that basic as far as overall design from that era and it doesn't strike me as an official model.

I have two the same a red one and a blue one, it came along with other sets like the red double decker (313) but you could be right.

Sets usually don't have screws screwed through rims.

I have to admit that was one of my first thoughts as well. :wink:

... and those proto-minifigs appeared in 1976 (maybe e '75?) and here's an example of a train using those wheels that came out in that year:

Which is why I'm saying I'm pretty sure what you have there are 2 matching MOCs and not an official model. Still, pretty neat to see into someone's imagination from back then. :classic:
