We have seen Monsters (Series 14), Birthday Party (Series 18), Costume Party (Series 22), Space (Series 26), and Animals (Series 28)  i wonder what’s next? I am hoping for Castle, Pirates, or Underwater series.  It’s interesting to see all special themed series have even numbers (14, 18, 22, 26, 28).And there are 4-series gap between the first four series (14, 18, 22, and 26). But it it’s 2-series gap between series 26 and 28 now. I guess pattern changed.

Or, more likely, there is no intentional pattern. There were other licensed series coming out between them and other things going on, such as the year for Space in 2024, and various other small set series like Vidiyo and Formula 1 that don't get numbered but take shelf space in the same way unlicensed CMF do. And if you look at the years, there is no clear pattern. Series 14 was 2015, Series 18 was 2018, Series 22 was 2022, Series 26 was 2024, Series 28 is 2026.

It is more likely that LEGO do what they want, when they want, rather than setting up a pattern and then change it.

I wonder what they'll do for Series 30

Any ideas?

Honestly, i dont’ think Series 30 would be a big deal as 50th anniveary of miniature is in 2028.  So I feel like Sries 30 is Matthew regualr series.

Like Mr. Gold for Series 10 and Green Brick Guy (with a “10” tile) for Series 20. Both series are regular.

Just wishful thinking... :pir-hmpf:

you know, what?  Forget what I said and i will take pirate themed series!

I think it’s hard to gauge if series 30 will be themed without knowing whether 2027 will have one unlicensed series or two. Both the most recent themed series came back to back with a normal unlicensed series in the same year, which seems like a calculated move only Lego’s part to Lee the largest number of fans happy possible.

I know Space got its own series, but I’m not sure how well that would work for Pirates without feeling repetitive. Sure, you could cook up a cohesive list of 12 pirate characters (say, Captain, first mate, random pegleg pirate, privateer, sea monster, mermaid etc), but how unique would each of them be?

I’d say the Space-themed series worked not despite of but due to its lack of cohesion. Every minifig was completely different, covering many tropes and eras from realistic astronauts to crazy aliens, futuristic suits, and constellations even!

Maybe they could come up with something, but Pirates does feel pretty limited in its possibilities compared to Space. Castle would have a larger chance, but only if they embrace the fantasy side of things :snicker:

I think the celebration minifigure will be a female this time around

But what could it be?

I've always had a dream of a "Mrs. Silver" to pair with Mr. Gold. Probably wouldn't be able to make it in chrome, but it's a thought.

You are probably right, series 20 was not anything special.
50 years of minifig on the other hand should be crazy

Space was a much wider brief than a single theme of the past, and so it was easy for the to include many different figures. Pirates is quite narrow, but they could probably still do 4 pirate figures, 4 soldiers and 4 islanders. It would no doubt be 2 male and 2 female of each so would not be too hard to fill.

Thats what I thought, but since islanders are taboo (no pun intended) maybe civilians instead, merchants, wenchs, governors daughter etc.

Thing is, as we have seen from other themed series, if they did do ‘pirates’ it’s likely to be a more loose interpretation rather than a roster of 12 figures we might slot into the existing sets.

So you should expect a space pirate, a pirate ship costume, a ship’s figurehead, a cockatoo costume, a zombie pirate captain (oops we already have that …) etc

lol i was a designer, I would not make a pirate-themed series repetitive. I have some ideas for this:

1.) Governor’s Daughter with a new dual-molded hairpiece with a bow
2.) Pirate Ship Costume Fan
3.) Pirate Queen with a huge hairpeice + a hat
4.) Sea Guardian (merman) with shell-thronged spear and shell-designed bronze shield
5.) Pirate Fairy
6.) Archeologist with a “rusty”-printed sword or revolver
7.) Cyborg Pirate with a trans-neon blue sword (trans-neon blue won’t’ be likely at the moment)
8.) Shipwreck Pirate with a wing-spreading parrot or a recolored monkey
9.) Imperial Solider
10.) Island King with a grand mask (maybe islander won’t happen but it’s 100% fictional tho)
11.) Legendary Piate (a tribute to Sinbad)
12.) Ship Collector with a bottle that is printed a pirate ship pacify.

Themed series are not always pure. Lego just likes to mix up random minifigures and call it “Monsters” (they threw Skeleton Guy even tho he is not a monster) or call it “Space” but they threw Alien Tourist, Spacewalking Astronanut, Retro Space Hero with robot dog, Android Nurse, Robot Chef, UFO Costume Fan, etc.

To be honest, i feel silver color is John’s downgraded.  Bronze, then silver, then gold. But Mrs. Silver sounds lovely!

Yes, I meant with fairly loose definitions. Governor's daughter type figure could be in the 'soldiers' group although it could just as likely be a female governor and her son. I get what you mean about islanders but they could either be done sensitively or switched for shipwrecked people done in different styles.

I very nearly mentioned zombie pirate and so we need a zombie soldier. A robot pirate is still a possibility. And if they are going for whacky / non-historical figures, then there could be child in Jolly Roger shirt, cannon suit costume (like the crayon), treasure chest costume, and treasure hunter with a map.

Maybe it could be a whole zombie series filling in all the archetypes we haven’t zombified yet ;)

You also need a zombie costume guy. And girl. A bit like the Scooby Doo villains.

Funny you should say that; we've actually already gotten him! Though they could go with a "girl zombie suit" to switch things up.

Unique enough I would say? Just look what they did with the Space Series, they took modern Spacemen (well hard to do with Pirates of course, not that there wouldn´t be modern ones, but they surely wouldn´t touch those), old figs and several new ideas (Space Tourist, Orion, Saucer guy etc.) and I don´t think even typical Pirates figures would have to look to much alike, just compare the Quarter, aster with the Pirate Girl from Series 20 for instance, take the BAM Pirate Skeleton and some usual Pirates like Pirate Captain, Shipmate a mermaid, an Imperial, Governour + Daugther and add a cook and a barmaid and you don´t even need to think much to fill a full series ;)

The main difference probably is, that Space and Castle had both several Factions with Blacktron, Futoron, Ice Planet, Black Falcons, Lion Knights, Wolfpack etc. While Pirates had pretty much Pirates, which aren´t that destinctive from another and then Islanders and Imperials. So I would definitely see them making Castle over Pirates, especially since that one is as good as guaranteed to do well. But I don´t think that there wouldn´t be enough ideas for a full series still.
