Black Falcon Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Most of the Classic space sets that were made look to blocky for me, though for people that like the classic space design it is probably what they are looking for. I am more the fan of the modernized design like the new Galaxy Explorer. From the designs you posted I like the Odyssey, Base Supply Depot, Sentinel and Graviton-Nomad the most, though the first looks a bit chunky in the close-up, Sentinel and Graviton I am not sure if I am that much a fan of the colour scheme and the base would be great if it had a small spaceship included. But overall cool designs. Quite an interesting Design: The Tetra Spacecraft Classic Space Galaxy Interceptor Quite nice modernized Classic space ship, which doesn´t look as blocky as the other models, though looks a bit chunky on the rear. Black Falcon Posted June 20 Posted June 20 A space entry won the vote/decision process and is going to be a set in series 11 - one I didn´t had on the list and actually I don´t think I even saw it looking through the sets. Anyways, would have prefered a spaceship over a train and especially a smaller set. Quote

Chunky to be sure, and perhaps a bit too much Star Wars like with the center 'wagon', but I find it quite promising. By the way, does anyone have an idea what element is used for the monorail? I reckon its a technic quarter-rounded piece, but I can't for the life of me find it. Quote

Looks brick built to me, using https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=5906 as end part and slopes for the sides of the rail. Looking at it more closely I wonder how stable the train is really sitting at the rail. Quote
Red Rackham Posted June 21 Posted June 21 I think it's fantastic. Let's hope Lego doesn't stray too far from the current design (fingers crossed). The cargo feature in particular is brilliant; otherwise, you usually just have a cargo hatch in spaceships (like the one in the back of the Galaxy Explorer). Maybe it can be converted to fit the old monorail tracks. Quote

BDP ususally doesn´t has that big differences from the original design, mainly some minor improvements and changes due to parts beeing retired earlier than originally planned (which resulted to a different minifig-lineup for some sets for instance, like the duskmark keep using the tax collector before and then switching to serpent knights) Quote

I guess I'll be looking into a way to kind of let the train tracks look like a monorail setup. Quote

It's a very nice design, don't get me wrong. It's just funny how many people have said that they didn't vote for it. I don't remember voting for it. I remember seeing it, and thinking that it spent a lot of parts on a giant chonky train that has no track to go anywhere. Like others, I preferred the smaller space ship builds. I wonder what this means for a potential Monorail remake? If this set won a vote, that's sending a message that people want Space monorail sets. And Lego just brought back monorail track. I guess the counter argument is "everyone who wants a Space monorail already bought the BDP set" and therefore wouldn't buy an Icons monorail. But I doubt that, especially since the new monorail track is functional. Quote

Maybe it is related to being much more casual saying "No" or "Never" or "I don't (whatever follows, could be like, believe, think, ...) rather than saying "Wow" or "yes". Saying = writing. Comparing "many" to a couple of thousands is always tough. Oh well, it is what it is, the masses have decided. I am in deep favor of that procedure. These things are NEVER determined simply by vote count though. I'm guessing a bunch of entries get similar enough vote counts, and other factors determine who what gets made among all the top entries. Quote

I don´t think that anything appearing in BDP will counter anything appearing as a "real" set, as bdp still only is a small market compared to having it out and avaiable everywhere (and basically in unlimited numbers). Though when the rails were shown I had my doubts that they really would be used for a monorail - especially since there is much more to it than just having this track. But if they really are going to get there eventually, I wouldn´t be surprised to see a city monorail happening. Quote

It doesn't use a universal rail and making an entire brick built track for it (while cool) would drive up costs very high to put it in a functional scene. If you look at how the original monorail worked, it's not very complicated at all and easy to reproduce. Make a rail covered in gear racks and put a motor with a gear on the train, that's it.
