enowicki Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) The Deep Space Explorer is my latest submission to the Bricklink Designer Program Series 10. The design, colors, and parts used are based on Classic Space sets, mostly up to 1987. This ship is comprised of 21 separate components that assemble into 1 main ship or can be assembled into multiple ships and land bases, all using the original connection style from Classic Space of Modified Bricks with Technic pins and Technic Bricks. danth Posted February 13 Posted February 13 This gets better the more I look at it. It does the modularity/industrial look better than the recent Renegade. And it captures the essence of Classic Space along with later themes like Exploriens. The addition of white is nice IMO and hearkens back to Cosmic Fleet Voyager. I really like the "open" base with the repair arm and all the other combinations shown here: Quote
JesseNight Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Wow, this brings modularity to a whole new level! Feels like needing an assembly plan to get it all back together into the big ship Quote
enowicki Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 I was really trying to get as much modularity out of the design as possible. I try to design things that look interesting but also have playability and could be built with others. In this case, I think this would be a great way to introduce kids to the awesomeness that is Classic Space Quote
JesseNight Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Well you did a great job at it. If it's still sturdy enough to move around when it's completely assembled, it's impressive! Are you planning on making a longer video showing off the actually built model in detail? Quote
enowicki Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 I do have a video from when I built the older version, if it is not selected this round, I will probably part out what I need and do another video. Just ran out of time this round. I was changing things right up to the deadline because I kept having new ideas Quote
enowicki Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 This article on Brickset gives a great breakdown of the Deep Space Explorer - https://brickset.com/article/129984/bdp-series-10-deep-space-explorer Quote
