msk6003 Posted Sunday at 06:00 AM Posted Sunday at 06:00 AM So, all Technic MOCs were rejected in this 11th funding round as well. At this point, I can only conclude that TLG is intentionally ignoring and excluding Technic. Quote

How many hardcore Technic fans are there? 200-300 maybe and 1/10 are actively following forums and social media? And even if the number is higher, it's nowhere close to 30-50k what the >300€ castle sets sell for. If I was LEGO I would pick castles and buildings too. It's simple economics. Technic is a niche within a niche hobby, it is difficult to compete with Castle, Pirates and Classic Space fans. Quote
Paul B Technic Posted Sunday at 11:10 AM Posted Sunday at 11:10 AM Sad to see but as I posted in the Technic Pub, I worry at some point that Technic will become so far removed from what we knew and loved, that some of us will step away. I was looking at an old thread and a lot of the posters have not been on here for years. Quote

I was looking at an old thread and a lot of the posters have not been on here for years. Though to be fair, there's also going to be a lot of new people on here. If I had to guess the number here would be trending downward, but maybe more because people are moving to social media than because people aren't building Technic. I think it's normal for people to take up the hobby for a few years, and then move on. This can be because they just lost interest after a while and moved to something else, or because their life got busier with added responsibilities, and they just don't have the time for it anymore. I don't think decreased set quality would be a primary factor. Honestly, poor modern sets don't seem to be hurting the casual fans who just build sets (as evidenced by high sales), and I don't see much reason that they would hurt the hardcore fans who just need parts for MOCing. Maybe there's a middle ground of people who would be hurt more by it? Or maybe mediocre sets prevent the transition from casual to hardcore fans in some cases?` Quote

Technic owns the #4, 5, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 19, and 24 spots on Rebrickable’s most owned sets list - it’s not niche. the issue with BDP now is there’s 500 submissions so you make a vote on a set in 3-10 seconds. A car that looks at a glance like something Lego already sells will suffer in that world. I think if someone submitted something with the visual impact of 42055 or 42009 it would have a good chance. LvdH Posted Sunday at 02:56 PM Posted Sunday at 02:56 PM I believe it's quite simple why Technic doesn't succeed in these projects. Technic is its own system that is extremely popular by itself. But compared to everything else that is system based, it gets completely dwarfed. To give an analogy: It may be the largest slice of a pie, but the rest of the pie combined is still far larger. Quote
Jude Posted yesterday at 04:38 PM Posted yesterday at 04:38 PM (edited) All the negativity aside, ;) TLG has released more new technic parts in past 10 years than in past, atleast i have that feeling because when i bought the ultimate porsche after dark years it seemed to use almost same parts as in 90's, off course the panels were new, but functionality/structure wise i think only new parts were 3l pins with axle. If TLG is reading this, you have released great new connector and panel pieces, the small ones but forget about the large parts that are made just for lowering piece count. Best new useful pieces IMO are new gears and "flipflop" liftarms/beams. Edited yesterday at 04:44 PM by Jude Quote

I don't really buy sets, so I don't really care if they're mediocre or repetitive, but I do buy parts, and TLG has been very generous with the useful new molds lately! Quote

That is why they lost me, when studless became Technic, and then, per philosophy, it lived in its own world. Before it was System and Technic. I love the Technic beams w/ studs, huh, the entire mashup. The entire studless world is fine with me, and I don't want to kick-off another studful vs studless Technic discussion; we had way too many. I just don't go there. Which saved me a >lot< of money. Which in turn goes to the S&T world, part-wise that is. I don't do gearboxes or sophisticated steering mechanisms because I can't and don't want to. I make structural things, machinery that moves "things" around, like dinosaurs, bridges, turn-tables, locomotives, switch drives, a non-LEGO airship hooked up to the ceiling, ... and Technic pieces are the base of all of that. So, yes a few new molds come in handy. Define "new" in my world though . (FWIW: Just got my hands on an almost mint TI99/4A with two joysticks for FAR less than the KEgg. My US 99er decided to do the "black screen, sound chip remains on death". Well, that is no death, it is just a challenge. I mean, I spent weeks to get my custom LEGO interface A connected to the US 99er, it would be ashamed to leave that alone. With these arguments + "honey do you know, what they pay for a LEGO car nowadays?" I got financial clearance ... THANK YOU GUYS!!! Now I can do the known good system fixing approach) All the best and enjoy the new molds!!! Thorsten Quote
