Lego doing sets for the Pokemon theme has been something people have always wished to happen. So much potential of what they can do. With that said, I need to see more to get fully onboard with this. It's very easy for them to just pick a certain type of audience with this theme and risk missing out on a lot of opportunities. We need to get a clear sense of how they are tackling the theme.

The ideal approach for the first year or so would be to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks including:

  • Bowser-Scale versions of Blastoise, Charizard and Venusaur
  • Creator 3-in-1 sets for each of the Kanto starters where you can build into each form
  • Pikachu in the style of 31163 for extra playability
  • Brick-built Legendary Pokemon with display plaque
  • Mixel-scale versions of the starter Pokemon
  • Minifigure sets focused on the gym battles featuring a mix of molded and brick-built Pokemon
  • D2C Pokemon Centre
  • Buildable display Pokeball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Master Ball
  • CMF Series featuring iconic characters potentially with their unique Pokemon
  • Tie-in set for Pokemon Legends A-Z
  • Etc...

We really need to get a clear idea of what they can do with the theme and they need to get a sense of what people would want from them with a Lego Pokemon theme.

From the trailer I'm getting the vibe of brick-built Pokemon in the style of Mixels. I'm a bit concerned if that is the case as if they ever did minifigure trainers it would'nt fit well. I'm not expecting every Pokemon to be in-scale, but it'd be neat to have a Pikachu that scales well with a trainer or other iconic Pokemon for similar reasons such as Charizard. I think if we are going brick-built Pokemon, some of the more iconic ones would need to be eventually given a molded scalable version that could pair with the trainer.

I'm hoping for a larger Pikachu (in the scale of 43247 Young Simba typically!) with a sound brick to enhance the fun! :sweet:

Timing is crucial for LEGO tbh, 2026 will be a huge year, with 30 years of pokemon,  potentially a 10th generation of pokemon game being announced (or released possibly late 2026), and perhaps more special events/crossovers.

Switch 2 will also be drawing in a lot of people in and back.

Seeing how LEGO and Fortnite did a thing like adding codes for skins with the product to draw people into the game, it wouldn't even surprise me to see if somehow some mystery gift code or whatever would be included with pokemon LEGO sets to get something in the latest game (which in late 2025/early 2026 will be Legends Z-A, which still is a mainline 9th generation game despite having a bigger focus on generation 1 to 6, being based in the generation 6 X Y city based on paris, and Mega evolutios)

(I mean, They sold a pokeball controller for the 2018 games, which had a code to redeem mew at the time), so physical product coming with digital promotion is nothing new for pokemon, along with timed events being basicly a thing for decades as well.

2027 potentially might include Gen 10 pokemon LEGO sets I'd assume, wouldn't surprise me to see at least the 3 starters in some form if they continue those .

The theme kicks off with two 18+ sets, one $60 and the other $200 :classic: Pikachu and Charizard, anyone?

Undoubtedly one will be Pikachu, but I could see the larger one being all three Kanto starters.

It would be a shame if they solely aim this theme at an 18+ audience though.

I was thinking this, as well.
Perhaps the Kanto Starters will be accompanied by a Pokéball and Pokédex? Kinda similar to the HP set with Hedwig, the Hogwarts welcome letter and potions etc.

I suppose it's not unreasonable for them to start with just Gen 1 stuff but I'd be a little disappointed personally. The fact that we're getting only two sets total is bizarre considering how well these are bound to sell, so I do wonder if we may see more later on in 2026 or if they're just testing the waters.

Sorry to double post but I was just looking at the leaks from Moose with a Goose regarding the X-Wing coming out next year and I noticed they mentioned that the Pokemon sets also might include those new smart bricks Lego is rolling out? Not sure if this person is trustworthy at all, but if so that is a little concerning. I can see the potential play value for sure, if they're able to react to different movements or perhaps simulate using moves that could be cool. But given how overpriced the new X Wing set seems to be (judging by the sketch and leaked price), I do wonder if that suggests that the Pokemon sets won't be as big as the prices would lead one to believe.

I agree, as much as I've found Mega Construx's execution of the Pokémon themselves to be a little hit or miss, I do appreciate the variety of generations they're willing to depict.

Something like this would be my ideal approach for smaller sets, little habitat/location builds with a mix of various Pokémon -

Keep in mind it's still very early on, and leaks can be spotty. All we know about these is "early 2026" but we don't know if these are the only sets for the first half of the year or if they're a January wave ahead of, say, a larger March wave.

Seems to me, very likely something to be fully announced at pokemon day 2026 (27 February), as it's 30th anniversary on exactly that date , could very well be something like a April 2026 release, and perhaps more product for the 2026/2027 winter season with more product or tie-ins to a new game/generation.

The current anime also seems to shift toward a tie-in with the upcoming Legends Z-A game, but I think LEGO would skip that, due to the timeline, possibly 30th anniversary stuff, or generation 10, are more significant for a physical product like LEGO.

Pokémon Day's 30th Anniversary certainly seems like a great contender for official announcements regarding additional sets for the rest of the year.
Or perhaps all if the earlier leaked sets won't appear until after.

Two apparent gaming gwp's are arriving on that date too. Could be promos with an early preorder of the main sets

The third 18+ set released in March will be 6838 pcs for $650 :jollyroger: Must be the first time a theme gets a set this large so early in its lifespan!! Also the first time a non-SW licensed theme gets a set north of $500, right? Well, this is certainly one way to set it apart from Mega‘s past offerings :snicker:

Boardroom meeting suggestion meme:

Panel 1, chairman: We need some ideas for how to make the most money with our new Pokemon license!

Panel 2, first speaker: Make desktop sculptures for office drones having a midlife crisis!

Panel 2, second speaker: Make a couple of enormous coffee-table sculptures for the one percent!

Panel 2, third speaker: Why don't we make a line of affordable playsets for kids that's sustainable for decades?

Panel 3: Chairman glares at third speaker.

Panel 4: Third speaker is thrown out the window of a tall building.

$650 is crazy. Im just hoping I dont like it at this stage

$650 is a lot and I'm trying to imagine what it's going toward that would be a sure enough seller to justify it. My best guess is a life-size Pikachu (which would be even bigger than the Mighty Bowser set from the Super Mario theme), with lights and/or a sound brick (adding even more to the price on top of the license and plastic content). If that is what it ends up being I doubt it'll be the only Pikachu that's available—if not a yet-to-be-leaked set, the cheaper $60 set might be a more affordable Pikachu, sort of like how in the Disney theme there were two sizes of Simba last year or Dalmatians this year.

No telling what the Pokémon GWP will be but a part of me hopes it'll be Pokémon cartridges for the Game Boy set... even though it's probably more likely that it'd be something more broadly appealing and displayable like a brick-built Poké Ball (possibly life-size).

I'm still not too stressed about the rollout of sets even if it is unusual to start this big... if the theme lasts (and I don't see why it wouldn't), there'll probably be more affordable, kid-focused sets. If we get to the official reveal and there's still no sign of other sets, maybe then it would be okay to worry, but at this point we're still quite early on and there's no telling whether or not the rumors that have leaked so far are a comprehensive picture of what the full theme will end up looking like.

100% agree...

I would be excited for this theme, but I feel like it's just going to be giant pokemon statues and not much else.

Yep :sceptic:

Kinda thinking (wishfully) that the 650-set might be entire Pallet Town or something, but I highly doubt it.
Really curious as to what this will be, but I'm 97.3% sure I won't get it.

Also intrigued by the others, but more positively
Apparently the release is March 1st, and there will be something for Insiders starting February 27th.

The GWP that is also mentioned, that is not necessarily Insider-exclusive, is it?

Mitch

That would be amazing. That's really what I want out of this theme, locations that I can populate with pokemon and trainers, to create my pokemon journey. I want my favorite gyms where I can recreate my favorite battles. I want minifigure scale pokemon moulds, not gigantic statues (which would be impressive, sure, but fundamentally no different then what's already been available before).

I want a minifigure series of trainers, each with a different pokemon.

But there's pretty much no way we'll get any of that. These video game sets almost never end up being what they should. I think the Horizon sets are the only ones they've made that are exactly what I wanted, to bad there's only 2 sets...

Yeah agree with you here. A series of modulars and a cmf would be ideal.

Apparently, we’re getting around 20 sets next year! *huh* Impressive start!!

That's absolutely crazy on paper for a new licensed theme these days, but I guess if any theme would get that treatment it would be Pokemon. Really excited to see what else is coming, hopefully there's a good amount of more affordable options since there's very little chance of me being able to afford the $650 set (not that I'm even sure it's something I'd want). I am pretty interested to see what that ends up being though. It's going to have to be pretty impressive for that price, and heck it should probably play the games too :hmpf:.
