It wasn't the best design for the ship- I really don't think they've ever made an A-wing that looked as good as their design scheme could allow for, and have even tried myself to get the fuselage right- so it would have been nice if we could have gotten the advanced alone. As-is, if the march advanced really is compromised, it'll have been 20 years since the last bog-standard TIE Advanced, which is a little crazy for the ship the most iconic villain of the entire franchise flies. (Not that I'm advocating for them to immediately turn around and release non-smart versions of the smart sets- even if it annoys me that this will demolish our chances of an ANH wave in 2027 for the 50th- but it is annoying that anyone who just wants a normal advanced has been out of luck for longer than a full generation has been alive)

Not quite 20 years since we had a Tie advanced in 2009; although the fact that 2009 is nearing 20 years ago is concerning. I own the 2009 Tie Advanced and while I like it, it looks really dated next to newer Ties.

Right- had it in my had that was 06, but it was the UCS version.

2009 Advanced is definitely incredibly dated, between the extremely blocky fuselage, the massive canopy/cannons piece, the weird prominence of DBG in the color scheme, the face that the wings are entirely black with a few grey tiles slapped on rather than any real attempt at making the grey perimeter on the upper and lower parts of the wings, etc. Plus it was the equivalent of $45 in 2025 money yet had a single figure, which people would be extremely up in arms about today.

Clear pics of the Mando's from the Siege of Mandalore BP have surfaced in the usual places.

Hmm. Very split.

The helmet print for the female mandos is near-perfect and I'll need to pick some up. This is the final piece of the puzzle to utilizing S1 sabine torsos for full mandos without buying her $60 helmet. Slap on some maroon arms and legs (maybe with the maroon TOR sith trooper leg print) and it'll be a solid clan of maroon nite owls. (Agh- checked bricklink and her torso is somehow up to around $5 a piece undamaged, so I'll be sticking with just the two spares I have from forever ago)

But everything else disappoints me a bit. The torso for the female mando, while I'm sure it's accurate to the show, just doesn't feel Mandalorian to me. It looks more like a droid torso. And the Male mandalorian's a pure update to the exact 2013 figure, being near-identical aside from the gunmetal arms and legs (With the torso being a straight upgrade with the slightly wider chestplate, and the helmet being a straight downgrade with the gunmetal visor color), which is nice for people who want to pick up that specific character model from TCW but does nothing for increasing customization.

I'm not saying lego was unwise to choose the models they did to base these characters off of, the only thing I think that's objectively wrong with them is the gunmetal visors. But for me personally, neither of these hold much interest to me. I'll pick up two copies of the female one's helmet on BL to use with my S1 sabine torsos, but I have no interest in the figures otherwise. At least I won't be tempted to buy that set and end up with EVEN MORE 332ND TROOPERS.

Yeah besides the color change the build was quite similar to the 1999 Tie advanced. Sets with one figure were pretty common back in the 2000s, I think Lego just had a different philosophy when it came to minifigure distribution. The battle of Endor set also from 2009 came with a bunch of figures because it needs them for the scene, whereas the Tie Advanced really only needs Vader. Lego really progressed a lot from 2009 to 2016 with the Tie advanced; and now almost 10 years old the 2016 Tie Advanced doesn't look dated in the slightest.

Yeah, I just bricklinked the parts for the 2016 X1 a few months ago. It holds up really well nine years later.

When I was a kid I didn't get the fuss about minifigs. They were just something to put in the pilot's seat and I didn't do anything with the other minifigs in the set. I still don't really do anything with the other minifigs, but now I appreciate having a good selection and distribution of characters, and I appreciate minifig contents as an important part of the value of a set.

Another Day of fun (#198)

That's actually the one thing the game's got going for it lego wise, is that it heavily features a clone and a mandalorian, the only two character designs lego is aware exist. JFO and (to my knowledge) outlaws never included those.

13th Iron Battalion and Boba Fett in shambles right now.

I hope we get sets to tie in with Jedi 3. Even if it is just a regular Imperial Battlepack. Some recognition of one of the best pieces of canon content would be nice.

The 14+ July set still vexes me. Perhaps it’s a large play and display set? A shuttle of sorts in the Milano scale would be peak. I don’t think we’ve had a 14+ set since the days of old MBS.
